Abstract

Education plays a strategic role in shaping students’ social character, enabling them to adapt and interact positively within society. In modern education, strengthening social character has become essential amid rising individualism and declining empathy among the younger generation. This condition suggests that education still prioritizes cognitive aspects over affective and social dimensions. Collaboration among families, schools, and communities as the Three Centers of Education has not yet functioned optimally, leading to a lack of continuity in social character development. This study aims to analyze the synergy of the Three Centers of Education in shaping students’ social character from an educational sociology perspective. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method through library research, involving a review of books, journals, and relevant previous studies. Data analysis follows the Miles and Huberman model, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the synergy among families, schools, and communities significantly contributes to the formation of students’ social character based on moral values, empathy, responsibility, and social awareness. Effective collaboration among these three educational environments fosters a harmonious and sustainable learning atmosphere. The study concludes that the Three Centers of Education function as an interactive social system and serve as an effective strategy to strengthen students’ social character formation in the digital era.

Abstract

Al-‘Alaq verses 1–5 as fundamental principles within Islamic educational philosophy. As the first revelation sent by Allah to Prophet Muhammad through the Angel Jibril, Surah Al-‘Alaq emphasizes the urgency of seeking knowledge. This research aims to analyze the meaning of these verses, explain their theological implications for education, describe the educational concepts embedded within them, and explore their relevance in addressing contemporary educational challenges. This study employs a qualitative library research method. The data sources are divided into two categories: primary data derived from classical and modern tafsir that discuss QS. Al-‘Alaq 1–5, and secondary data consisting of books and scholarly journals relevant to the topic. The findings reveal that QS. Al-‘Alaq verses 1–5 contain four fundamental principles of Islamic education: (1) the command to seek knowledge, (2) education grounded in the doctrine of tawḥīd, (3) the recognition of human nature and innate potential (fiṭrah), and (4) the importance of learning media in the teaching learning process. These verses are also highly relevant in responding to educational issues today, particularly the crises of literacy, morality, and low learning motivation. Therefore, QS. Al-‘Alaq 1–5 as the first revelation serves as a comprehensive theological foundation for Islamic education and offers solutions to various challenges faced by modern educational systems.

Abstract

Character education based on perennialist thought holds an important position in shaping students with integrity amid the development of the digital era and globalization. Universal values such as truth, goodness, and beauty serve as the main foundation in strengthening ethics. This study uses a library research method with a descriptive qualitative approach. The main data used come from books, scientific journals, articles, and official documents, particularly those discussing character education and perennialism. The data analysis stages are as follows: first, data reduction; second, organizing information; third, drawing conclusions. The results show that the perennialist approach is able to prioritize student ethics and character so that they understand and apply these values in their lives. This implementation can be carried out through several educational efforts such as the curriculum, guidance and advice from educators, the provision of morally valuable activities within the school environment, as well as good social interactions. Of course, instilling morals from an early age is very necessary, so that these attitudes develop gradually and are better understood by children as preparation for their future. Therefore, prioritizing morals is very necessary, especially in today’s era, which is rife with various moral issues faced by students in higher education. With character education, a generation will emerge that is not only highly educated but also morally upright.

Abstract

This article discusses the philosophical relationship between essentialism and Islamic education, especially in forming the moral character of Muslim students in the modern era. The study analyzes three main aspects: (1) the essence of Islamic education in the view of essentialism; (2) the role of teachers and curriculum as carriers of essential values; and (3) the relevance of essentialist principles for strengthening Islamic character education in contemporary times. Using literature review methods, this article concludes that essentialism is relevant to Islamic education because both emphasize discipline, moral stability, and mastery of fundamental knowledge. Teachers act as murabbi and moral exemplars, while the curriculum becomes the guardian of essential Islamic values to balance intellectual, moral, and spiritual development. The study proposes a conceptual model of “Essentialist Islamic Character Education” integrating essentialist philosophy with Islamic moral principles to answer modern educational challenges.

Abstract

The value of monotheism is the main foundation in Islamic teachings, which emphasizes the oneness of Allah SWT as the center of all spiritual and social life of a Muslim. In the context of adolescents transitioning from childhood to adulthood, this is a crucial phase in the formation of identity and religious beliefs. Education in schools that emphasizes the value of monotheism in learning can help adolescents who are searching for their identity to avoid being influenced by things that are not in accordance with religious norms. The Islamic education curriculum is not only oriented towards cognitive aspects, but also on the formation of personality and morals based on the values of tauhid. This study aims to examine and analyze the application of tauhid values in character building and Islamic curriculum in the context of divinity, in order to determine the extent to which the application of tauhid values in character building and curriculum can be implemented in life.

Abstract

This research examines Fazlur Rahman’s perspective on Islamic educational philosophy. Educational philosophy itself is a comprehensive and organized reflection on issues related to learning, such as curriculum, teachers, and students. Although it shares similarities with general educational philosophy, the Islamic version is grounded in teachings derived from the Qur’an and the Sunnah. According to Fazlur Rahman, the core purpose of Islamic education is to worship God by nurturing human potential in harmony with divine guidance and personal responsibility. The study uses literature review methods and textual analysis of books, journals, theses, and other documents connected to Rahman’s ideas. Findings indicate that Rahman views education as the primary means for serving God, which includes developing one's abilities according to divine commands and using nature responsibly. For him, the ultimate aim of education is the integral growth of human potential intellectually, morally, and spiritually so that individuals not only excel academically but also possess strong ethical and social awareness. Islamic education, therefore, is understood as a continuous effort to form a complete human being committed to the progress of civilization.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the concept of students’ learning ethics toward teachers in the classical Islamic education tradition through the thoughts of Imam al-Shafi’i. This research employs a qualitative approach using the library research method by reviewing classical works and contemporary academic literature. The findings reveal that in classical Islamic education, the relationship between student and teacher is not merely intellectual but also spiritual and moral. The ethics of students toward teachers include respect, sincerity, perseverance in seeking knowledge, and the consistent practice of learned knowledge. Meanwhile, teachers’ morality reflects exemplary conduct, honesty, patience, and compassion in guiding students. These values remain highly relevant to modern education systems facing crises of character and moral degradation. Therefore, this study contributes to strengthening the paradigm of Islamic education based on morality and spirituality. It recommends integrating classical educational values into Islamic education curricula to cultivate knowledgeable individuals with strong moral character and integrity.

Abstract

Abstrak: This research investigates the impact of Big Book media on the learning outcomes of fourth-grade students in Islamic Religious Education at SD Negeri 30 Sungai Kosak. The study aimed to identify differences in students’ learning outcomes before and after the application of Big Book media in IRE instruction. A quantitative approach was employed using a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The participants consisted of 17 fourth-grade students, all of whom were included as the research sample through a saturated sampling technique. Data were gathered using multiple-choice tests administered as a pretest and a posttest. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical techniques, with the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test applied due to the data not meeting normality assumptions. The findings revealed that the mean pretest score of 62.06 increased to 92.35 in the posttest. The Wilcoxon test results showed a significance value (p-value) of less than 0.001, indicating a statistically significant difference between learning outcomes before and after the implementation of Big Book media. Additionally, the effect size analysis demonstrated a very strong effect. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of Big Book media is highly effective and significantly enhances students’ learning outcomes in Islamic Religious Education for fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 30 Sungai Kosak.
