FOKUS AND SCOPE Jurnal Sultra Elementary School focuses on publishing research findings, theoretical studies, and innovative developments in the field of Elementary Education through a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach. The journal aims to broaden academic perspectives and enhance educational practices by integrating various disciplines relevant to the challenges of 21st-century learning. The scope of this journal includes, but is not limited to, the following topics: Innovative learning strategies in elementary education; Literacy and numeracy development to foster critical thinking skills; Character education and the formation of Pancasila student profiles; The use of media and digital technology in teaching and learning; Assessment and evaluation of learning outcomes; Curriculum design and teacher professionalism in elementary schools; Inclusive education and differentiated instruction; Integration of education with psychology, sociology, arts, health, and environmental studies; Social and civic education, including democracy education, youth voter participation, children’s political literacy, and the early development of civic awareness and social responsibility. Abstract

This research was conducted in Grade 6 at SD Negeri 1 Barangka from April to May 2022. The study aimed to describe the teacher’s pedagogical competence in classroom management during the learning process—specifically in opening, presenting, and closing Indonesian language lessons. Data were collected through observation and interviews. The results of this descriptive study indicate that the teacher’s competence in opening the lesson was of good quality, the competence in presenting the material was of very good quality, and the competence in closing the lesson was of less satisfactory quality. The conclusion of this study shows that the overall quality of the teacher’s competence in managing classroom interaction during Indonesian language learning in Grade 6 at SD Negeri 1 Barangka achieved a good level in the aspects studied.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the parenting styles used by parents in shaping children’s discipline character in Talaga Village. This research is a qualitative study with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation, which were then analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The validity of the data was verified using source triangulation, technique triangulation, and time triangulation. The results showed that parents in Talaga Village applied several parenting styles: the authoritarian style was used when parents enforced strict discipline; the permissive style appeared when parents were preoccupied with work; and the democratic style was used when parents and children created and agreed upon rules together, with corresponding consequences for violations. The discipline character developed among children included religious discipline (performing prayers regularly), time discipline (being punctual for prayers, waking up early, and returning home on time), and social discipline (showing respect to parents). The democratic parenting style was the most dominant, although in certain situations, parents also applied authoritarian and permissive styles. Factors influencing parenting practices included parents’ busy schedules, peer influence, economic status, and the negative effects of globalization such as the use of mobile phones, television, and online games.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the reading and writing skills of pantun (traditional Indonesian poetry) among seventh-grade students (class VII-1) at SMP Negeri 4 Kendari through the implementation of the Project-Based Learning (PBL) model. The research benefits students, teachers, the school, and the Indonesian Language Teacher Working Group (MGMP Bahasa Indonesia). The study was conducted at SMP Negeri 4 Kendari with 32 students as subjects, consisting of 18 female and 14 male students. Based on the data obtained from three research cycles, the results showed that: (1) in the first cycle, 13 students (40.63%) achieved a score of ≥80, while in the second cycle, 31 students (96.88%) achieved a score of ≥80; (2) the teacher’s ability to manage the learning process improved from a total score of 120 (average 4, Good) in the first cycle to 132 (average 4.4, Good) in the second cycle; and (3) student activity during the learning process increased from a total score of 22 (73.33%, Fair) in the first cycle to 27 (90.00%, Very Good) in the second cycle. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the Project-Based Learning (PBL) model effectively enhances students’ ability to read and write pantun in class VII-1 at SMP Negeri 4 Kendari.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the improvement of students’ critical thinking skills in science learning using the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by PowerPoint media and realia media. This research employed a quasi-experimental design. The findings revealed that there was a significant effect on students’ critical thinking skills when taught using the PBL model assisted by PowerPoint and realia media. The average N-Gain score of students’ critical thinking skills in the class that used the PBL model assisted by PowerPoint media was significantly higher (0.58) compared to the class that used the PBL model assisted by realia media (0.48). This indicates that the use of the PBL model with PowerPoint media is more effective in improving students’ critical thinking skills in science learning than the PBL model with realia media.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the problems encountered in implementing thematic learning at SDN 1 Banua Banua Jaya. The research employed a qualitative approach with six teachers as research informants. Data were collected through observations and interviews. The findings revealed that the implementation of thematic learning at SDN 1 Banua Banua Jaya has not been carried out optimally. In the planning stage, teachers had not prepared lesson plans properly. During the implementation stage, thematic learning was not conducted as intended — learning was teacher-centered and the material was presented separately rather than integrated. In the assessment stage, teachers only assessed knowledge and skills, while the assessment of attitudes had not been implemented. The main challenges faced by teachers included the lack of teacher and student textbooks, limited facilities and infrastructure, and low understanding of thematic learning. To address these issues, the school has taken several steps such as sending teachers to attend curriculum 2013 seminars and training, encouraging participation in teacher working groups (KKG), and holding collaborative discussions among teachers at school.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence and differences between the Role Playing method and the Varied Lecture method on the social attitudes of fifth-grade elementary school students in social studies learning. This research employed an experimental design. Based on the analysis and discussion, several findings were obtained: the social attitudes of elementary school students who learned through the Role Playing method were higher than those who learned through the Varied Lecture method. From these findings, it can be concluded that students who were taught using the Role Playing method demonstrated better social attitudes in social studies compared to those taught using the Varied Lecture method. Furthermore, students with high social attitudes benefited more from learning through Role Playing, while students with low social attitudes showed better results when taught using the Varied Lecture method.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the forms of political participation among first-time voters in the 2024 General Election and to determine the factors influencing their political participation. This research employs a qualitative approach with descriptive qualitative analysis techniques. The data used include both primary and secondary data, collected through observation and interviews. The findings reveal that the Simultaneous General Election (Pemilu Serentak) has brought a new dynamic to Indonesia’s democratic process, particularly for first-time voters, as it represents their first opportunity to exercise their voting rights in choosing the President and Legislative Representatives at both regional and national levels. The first simultaneous election was held in 2019, and the upcoming 2024 election marks the next phase in Indonesia’s electoral evolution since the first general election in 1955, which involved over 30 political parties and independent candidates. The 2024 simultaneous election serves as a crucial democratic platform for first-time voters, those who have reached the minimum voting age of 17 since the previous election. It marks an important step in shaping Indonesia’s democratic future and nurturing a generation of informed, active voters. Therefore, first-time voters should be provided with an educational and engaging democratic experience. To enhance their participation, specific strategies and social media campaigns should be utilized to reach and encourage them to actively participate in the democratic process for the sake of the nation’s progress and future.

Abstract

This study employs a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design, which consists of two cycles, each comprising four meetings. The procedure in each cycle includes planning, action, observation or evaluation, and reflection. The subjects of this study were 21 third-grade students of SDN 12 Konda, Konawe Selatan, consisting of 9 boys and 12 girls. The variables in this study are the use of picture media in social studies learning as the first variable, and learning outcomes, measured through students’ achievement scores after testing, as the second variable. The research results show that the use of picture media in Social Studies learning significantly improved students’ achievement. The average learning outcome score increased from 6.86 in the first cycle (categorized as “adequate”) to 8.06 in the second cycle (categorized as “high”). Furthermore, in the first cycle, only 12 out of 21 students (57.14%) met the Minimum Mastery Criteria (MMC), while in the second cycle, the number rose to 19 students (90.48%). The hypothesis test using the sign test also indicated that learning through picture media is effective in improving students’ Social Studies achievement in Class III of SDN 12 Konda, Konawe Selatan.

Abstract

Teacher exemplarity plays a crucial role in instilling and shaping students’ honest and disciplined character. The objectives of this study are: (1) to describe the forms of teacher exemplarity in instilling honesty among fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 6 Langgikima; (2) to describe the forms of teacher exemplarity in developing discipline among students; and (3) to identify the obstacles and solutions in cultivating honest and disciplined character in students. This research employs a qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, while data validity was ensured using source triangulation and technique triangulation. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that: (1) the form of teacher exemplarity in fostering students’ honesty is implemented through the establishment of an “honesty canteen”; (2) the form of teacher exemplarity in fostering discipline is carried out through habit formation; (3) there are still inhibiting factors originating from the family and community environment; and (4) solutions to minimize these obstacles include personal approach and consistent habituation.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Discovery Learning model on students’ learning outcomes in science subjects. The research employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design of the One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design type. The subjects of this study consisted of 20 students. The results before the treatment showed that out of 20 students, 9 students (45%) achieved mastery, while 11 students (55%) did not, with an average pretest score of 66.20, categorized as low. After the treatment using the Discovery Learning model, 15 students (75%) achieved mastery, and 5 students (25%) did not, with an average posttest score of 77.00, categorized as high. Based on the results of inferential statistical analysis using the t-test, the significance value (2-tailed) was 0.003 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores. Therefore, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Discovery Learning model has a positive effect on improving students’ learning outcomes in science subjects.
