All articles in SAWERIGADING have passed reviewing process by peer reviewers and edited by editors. SAWERIGADING is published by Balai Bahasa Sulawesi Selatan twice times a year, in June and December. SAWERIGADING focuses on publishing research articles and current issues related to language, literature, and the instructor. The main objective of SAWERIGADING is to provide a platform for scholars, academics, lecturers, and researchers to share contemporary thoughts in their fields. The editor has reviewed all published articles. SAWERIGADING accepts submissions of original articles that have not been published elsewhere nor being considered or processed for publication anywhere, and demonstrate no plagiarism whatsoever. The prerequisites, standards, and format of the manuscript are listed in the author guidelines and templates. Any accepted manuscript will be reviewed by at least two referees. Authors are free of charge throughout the whole process, including article submission, review and editing process, and publication.

Abstract

Literary works have value as literary if it implies poetic aspects. This research aims to describe the poetic aspects in the poems Wasiat Cinta analyzed by euphony and cacophony. Due to the aim, the writer applies qualitative method through intuitive and analytic approach. The techniques of this research are reading-listening, classification, and content analysis. The data of this research are the poems Air Laut Terbang Bersama Dua Matahari by Asia Ramli Prapanca, Kata Cinta Usia 51 and Selalu Ada Laut by Badaruddin Amir. Those poems are written in Wasiat Cinta: Mimbar Penyair Makassar book, published by Nala Cipta Litera in 2013. Based on the result of the analysis, it is found that the poems (1) Air Laut Terbang Bersama Dua Matahari contains euphonic elements to make the pronunciation and rhythm enunciated smoothly, and describes the atmosphere of pleasant situation and the happy meaning; (2) Kata Cinta Usia 51 contains cacophonic elements to obstruct the pronunciation and rhythm lines, describes the bad situation and the atmosphere of regret meaning; (3) Selalu Ada Laut contains euphonic elements show in the harmony and cacophonic elements that disorganize the previous harmony, then both of them should be synchronized with patience and strong belief to harmonize them.

Abstract

This study examines the politeness strategies used by aviation staff when interacting with passengers at critical service points. Using a qualitative descriptive method with a relational pragmatic approach, data were collected from purposively selected YouTube videos showing interactions at immigration, security, and check-in counters. The videos were transcribed verbatim and analyzed using Brown and Levinson’s politeness theory, Searle’s speech act classification, and Locher and Watts’ relational work framework. The analysis focused on identifying interaction units, classifying speech acts, and examining politeness strategies and relational work. The findings show that aviation staff combine positive politeness (greetings, empathy), negative politeness (indirect requests, modals, hedges), and bald-on-record strategies (direct instructions) to balance institutional demands with interpersonal rapport. These strategies enhance passenger comfort, procedural clarity, and professional service identity. The study contributes to contextual pragmatics and provides practical guidance for developing culturally sensitive communication in aviation services. AbstrakPenelitian ini mengkaji strategi kesantunan yang digunakan staf penerbangan dalam berinteraksi dengan penumpang pada titik layanan kritis. Menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan pragmatik relasional, data diperoleh dari video YouTube yang dipilih secara purposif yang menampilkan interaksi di bagian imigrasi, keamanan, dan check-in. Video ditranskripsi secara verbatim dan dianalisis menggunakan teori kesantunan Brown dan Levinson, klasifikasi tindak tutur Searle, serta kerangka kerja relasional Locher dan Watts. Analisis dilakukan melalui identifikasi unit interaksi, klasifikasi tindak tutur, dan pemeriksaan strategi kesantunan serta kerja relasional. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa staf penerbangan memadukan strategi kesantunan positif (sapaan, empati), kesantunan negatif (permintaan tidak langsung, modal, peredam), dan strategi langsung (instruksi tegas) untuk menyeimbangkan tuntutan institusional dengan hubungan interpersonal. Strategi tersebut meningkatkan kenyamanan penumpang, kejelasan prosedur, dan citra layanan profesional. Temuan ini berkontribusi pada kajian pragmatik kontekstual dan memberikan panduan komunikasi sensitif budaya dalam layanan penerbangan.

Abstract

This research discusses many kinds of main character’s existence and conflicts in Kroco, a novel by Putu Wijaya. This study used literary psychology theory with the philosophy of existentialism and identity theory. It analyzed the way human maintaining the existence of humanity in family and public spaces in an effort to raise the economic strata. It also analyzed the relation between people corresponding to the defensive process of the existence. It revealed that humans chose different identities in an attempt to maintain the existence of humanity. Selecting identity that could not raise the socioeconomic strata made people pick another identity that clashed with the social construction of society later. Humans also experienced identity conflicts in the middle of the process. Conflicts of identity were influenced by humans’ subconscious. Human beings abolished the source of conflict to break free from discomfort. Identity conflicts were also shown through humans’ recalling memories. The process of surviving humanity's existence was complicated.AbstrakPenelitian ini membahas bentuk-bentuk  pertahanan eksistensi kemanusiaan yang dilakukan tokoh utama dalam novel Kroco karya Putu Wijaya serta konflik-konflik yang menyertainya. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori psikologi sastra dengan pendekatan filsafat eksistensialisme dan dipadukan teori identitas. Analisis dilakukan dengan memaparkan cara manusia untuk mempertahankan eksistensi  kemanusiaannya di ruang keluarga dan publik dalam usaha untuk menaikkan strata ekonomi. Relasi antarmanusia dalam kaitannya dengan proses pertahanan eksistensi juga menjadi bagian yang dianalisis. Analisis menunjukkan manusia memilih identitas yang berbeda-beda dalam usaha untuk mempertahankan eksistensi kemanusiaan. Analisis juga menunjukkan identitas yang tidak dapat menaikkan strata sosial ekonomi membuat manusia kemudian memilih identitas yang berbenturan dengan konstruksi sosial masyarakat. Manusia juga mengalami konflik identitas di tengah-tengah proses tersebut. Konflik identitas diri dipengaruhi oleh alam bawah sadar  manusia. Manusia menghapuskan sumber konflik untuk membebaskan diri dari ketidaknyamanan. Konflik identitas juga ditunjukkan melalui manusia yang mengingat kembali memori-memori. Proses pertahanan eksistensi kemanusiaan berlangsung rumit.

Abstract

AbstractThis research aims to find out the phonological acquisition in the form of vowels and consonants on Muhammad Zaini from three years and three months to three years and five months. The theory used in this research is the universal structural theory of Jakobson and the theory of phonological acquisition from Moskowitz. The second theory also supported by findings of Dardjowidjojo (2000 and 2003). Analytical techniques used in the research were a longitudinal approach with engineering watch and note. The findings of this research were: (1) Muhammad Zaini acquired syllables in pronouncing a syllable /po/song delicious noodle advertisements on television. (2) Muhammad Zaini acquired phoneme /n/, /a/, /p/, /u/, /i/, /m/ in pronouncing the song of Nona Manis. (3)Muhammad Zaini obtained the letters A /a/, B /b/, C /c/, D /d/, E /e/, H /h/, J /j/, and O /o/. Muhammad Zaini was already able to pronounce the letter /u/, /p/, /q/, /v/, /w/ and /z/ in the alphabet. (4) Muhammad Zaini acquired phonological acquisition in the form of the letter get/p//a/,,/d/,/i/, u,/l/,/n/,/h/,/y/,/t/,/m/,/e/,/c/,/j/,/k/, in pronouncing the song of Pergi Pagi Pulang Pagi. AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan pemerolehan fonologis berupa huruf vokal dan konsonan pada Muhammad Zaini dari usia 3 tahun 3 bulan sampai 3 tahun 5 bulan. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori struktural universal dari Jakobson dan teori pemerolehan fonologis dari Moskowitz. Kedua teori ini juga didukung dengan temuan Dardjowidjojo (2000 dan 2003). Teknik analisis yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan longitudinal dengan teknik simak dan catat. Temuan penelitian ini adalah (1) Muhammad Zaini memperoleh suku kata /po/ dalam melafalkan lagu iklan mie sedap di televisi. (2) Muhammad Zaini memperoleh fonem /n/, /a/, /p/, /u/, /i/, /m/ dalam melafalkan lagu Nona Manis. (3) Muhammad Zaini memperoleh huruf A /a/, B /b/, C /c/, D /d/, E /e/, H /h/, J /j/, dan O /o/. Muhammad Zaini sudah mampu melafalkan huruf /u/, /p/, /q/, /v/, /w/, dan /z/ dalam abjad yang dilagukannya, dan (4) Muhammad Zaini mendapatkan pemerolehan fonologis berupa huruf /p/, /a/, /d/, /i/, /u/, /l/, /n/, /h/, /y/, /t/, /m/, /e/, /c/, /j/, /k/ dalam melafalkan lagu pergi pagi pulang pagi.

Abstract

This writing discusses concerning phonetic analysisof Buginese Language of Barru dialect. Phonetic analysis is intended to investigate and to analyze pronouncing sounds produced by human articulator. Method used in this writing is descriptive. In the first part of discussion, the writer makes transliteratoin the story of La Pesok sibawa La Buta. Furthermore, phonetic is done in addition to clarify sound bases on phonetic analysis, description of vowel and consonant illustration in the word and making map is of vowel and consonant sound.

Abstract

In the early twentieth age, the growth and development of creative industry occur such as: film, video,photography, music, performance, architecture, handycraft, fiction and nonfiction books, publishing,advertisement, interactive game, and so on. The reserach of creative industry illustrates the bigpotential of creative industry which is based on language and supported by language. The potentialof creative industry could have effect through collaboration movement of language institution with thebusinessmen ofcreative industry in the motherland. The collaboration involvesfield worker, practitioner,andprofessionals (researcher, translater, dubber, designer, lexicographer, and training organizer), andlinguists, and lower and middle businessman. The handling of the growth and development of languagecreative industry is very strategic to socialize the use of both Indonesian and foreigner to promote theproduct of creative industry to the free market in Asean and Asia-Pasific area. Its success will drive theeconomy of the lower and middle society. AbstrakPada awal abad ke-21 ini telah terjadi pertumbuhan dan perkembangan di bidang industri kreatif:film, video, fotografi, musik, pertunjukan, arsitektur, kerajinan, karya fiksi dan nonfiksi, penerbitan/percetakan, periklanan, permainan interaktif, dan sebagainya. Penelitian tentang industri kreatif inimemperoleh gambaran betapa besar potensi industri kreatif berbasis bahasa dan industri kreatif berdayadukung bahasa. Potensi industri kreatif kebahasaan itu dapat diberdayakan melalui gerakan kolaborasilembaga pengelola kebahasaan dengan para pengusaha industri kreatif di tanah air. Kolaborasi itumelibatkan tenaga kerja lapangan, praktisi, kalangan profesional (peneliti, penerjemah, penyulih suara,perancang, pengolah kata, penyelenggara pelatihan), dan tenaga kebahasaan, serta pengusaha kecildan menengah. Penanganan pertumbuhan dan perkembangan industri kreatif kebahasaan itu sangatstrategis untuk masyarakatkan penggunaan dwibahasa Indonesia dan asing dalam pemasyarakatanproduk industri kreatif ke pasar bebas kawasan Asean ataupun Asia-Pasifik. Keberhasilan semua ituakan menggerakan ekonomi masyarakat kelas bawah dan kelas menengah.

Abstract

The Indonesian language usage of community and certain age could be the second language, whilst local language could be the first or mother tongue. Indonesian language could be influenced by the first language. It causes the phonological variation in pronouncing certain words that is not suitable with Indonesian language grammar. Method applied to find out the phonological variation used by Makassar language community in speaking Indonesian is descriptive qualitative method by listening-noting technique. It is used to describe Indonesian language phonological variation on Makassarese speakers community. Data obtained by the speech of researched object, based on result of data analysis is sound alteration, sound omission, and sound addition.

Abstract

In the novel Salah Asuhan, Hanafi lives the span of his life with the strength of his desire to be a different person. This character is a representative of the author's voice on his various experiences in associating with Europeans. This study aims to describe the author's desire manifested in the novel Salah Asuhan, both the “desire to be” and the “desire to have.” This study employed qualitative research methods. Data were analyzed using Lacanian psychoanalytic method. The results show that through Hanafi's character, it is clear that the author's desire is to be European and to have European attributes.For the author, the desire to be European is actually to reject the Dutch discrimination against the East. Abdul Muis as the author wants to dress in European style because of the education he received in Europe. However, this desire is opposed by the Europeans.This opposition shows discrimination against natives. Therefore, this novel is a critique of European discrimination against natives, while the Hanafi character actually suggests that a native should still recognize himself as an Easterner.

Abstract

This analysis intends to describe theory and method of interpretation of literary text meaning, namely hermeneutic. Hermeneutic is interpreting process that involvesthree aspects such as, text, mediator, and reader. The three aspect relatedialectically and each aspects play role in process of giving meaning. Literary textis political symbol and consept so that it’s meaning is hidden. Hermeneutic is oneway to explore hidden meaning behind the literary text.

Abstract

Pappaseng tomatoa is a type of Buginese literature implying positive values of life, especially honesty value. Pappaseng tomatoa is still used and preserved by Buginese community to deliver life wisdoms through literary. The writing intends to find out values and moral message in pappaseng tomatoa. It is descriptive and applies noting, interviewing, recording, technique and library study to collect the data. The discussion shows that skill without honesty is like a ship without the captain, and vice versa. Pappaseng tomatoa is meaningful for eductional media to guide and find the essence of human life. Abstrak Pappaseng Tomatoa merupakan jenis kesusatraan Bugis yang mengandung nilai-nilai kehidupan positif, khususnya nilai kejujuran. Pappaseng tomatoa masih dipergunakan dan dipelihara oleh masyarakat Bugis untuk menyampaikan kearifan-kearifan hidup dengan cara bersastra. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan nilai-nilai dan ajaran moral yang digambarkan dalam narasi Pappaseng Tomatoa. Penelitian ini bersifat deksriptif, dan dalam pengumpulan data digunakan teknik pecatatan, wawancara, perekaman, dan studi pustaka. Pembahasan menunjukkan bahwa kecakapan tanpa kejujuran ibarat kapal tanpa nakhoda, sedangkan kejujuran tanpa kecakapan ibarat nakhoda tanpa kapal. Pappaseng Tomatoa bermanfaat sebagai sarana pendidikan yang dapat menuntun dan menemukan hakikat keberadaan manusia.
