Abstract

This study was conducted to develop a quarter-life crisis scale that can be used to measure the quarter-life crisis of early adulthood in Indonesia. Although it has begun to become a concern for researchers in Indonesia, the development of the quarter-life crisis scale has never been created. Some researchers have adapted the constructs developed by foreign researchers, which are not necessarily suitable for applicated in Indonesia. The development of this scale goes through 5 stages: conceptualization of the test; test construction; test trial; item analysis; and test revision. The test trial was filled by 181 early adults in Indonesia from Pekanbaru, Malang, Medan, Padang, Batam, Madura, Lombok, Pangkalan Kerinci, Solo, Surabaya, Jakarta, Bogor, and Yogyakarta. The results showed that there are 26 valid and consistent items that can be used to measure the early adult quarter-life crisis in Indonesia, which is indicated by the validity of the rcount greater than rtable and the Cronbach Alpha value of 0.854.

Abstract

The students' optimism about their future careers and education impacts their educational success. The Future Expectation Scale of Adolescents (FESA) can measure future expectations of education and student career. This study aims to adapt the scale of the FESA work and education domain to the Indonesian language and culture. The adaptation in this study follows the six-stage category of the International Commission Test. Development of adaptation items using a forward-backward translation design involving six experts. The comparability of language and content validity assessments involved nine experts. Pilot study for item evaluation involving 15 students from the target population. The quantitative testing was administered to 297 state college students. Results of the comparability assessment of language indicate that the adapted item has a similar structure and meaning. The content validity assessment demonstrates that the adapted item is already relevant, essential, and clear for measuring educational and work expectations. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) reveals that this adaptation scale has good construct validity, as indicated by the value of a good fit model that meets the criteria. Reliability based on construct reliability and internal consistency is also good. Thus, the FESA work and education domain scale version for Indonesia is valid and reliable to measure the youth's future expectations of education and work, especially among Indonesian college students.

Special education has shifted from a position of delivering professional services to students with disabilities to a system that seeks to encompass the broad concept of promoting quality education for students. This study examined the correlation between self-esteem and academic success among special needs students in Kwara State, Nigeria. the study adopted a descriptive survey research type. special needs students in the three local government areas in Ilorin, Ilorin South, East, and West Local Governments Area constituted the total population for this research. The researcher designed questionnaire was entitled: self-esteem as correlate of academic success among special needs students’ questionnaire” (SECASNSQ). 200 questionnaire forms were administered. Research questions were answered using mean score, while inferential statistics of mean, standard deviation and Pearson Moment Correlation (PPMC) were used to test the formulated hypotheses. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 23.0 and Microsoft Excel was used to analyse both inferential and descriptive statistical data. The hypotheses were tested at 0.05 significance level. The finding of the study showed that: Self-esteem (academic ability, physical ability, social ability, emotional ability, general self-worth ability and scholastic ability) influence Self-esteem as correlate of academic success of special needs students in Kwara State. More so, there was no significant relationship between Self-esteem and academic success of special needs students in Kwara state in Kwara state. There was significant relationship between religion, school type, age and Self-esteem and academic success of special needs students in Kwara State. The findings concluded that while Self-esteem may not directly influence academic success among special needs students in Kwara State, factors such as religion, school type, and age significantly impact both Self-esteem and academic success. These relationships highlight the importance of considering a range of contextual and personal factors when addressing the needs of special needs students and developing strategies to support their academic and personal development. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended among others that school counsellors, parents and other stakeholders in the education sector should enhance adolescents’ interpersonal relationship by strengthening their physical, social and emotional Self-esteems through relevant social skills training and counseling interventions.

Abstract

Current developments in counseling show significant improvements, especially with the increasingly deeper integration of artificial intelligence (AI). This research focuses on analyzing research development trends in counseling and artificial intelligence, with data collected from Scopus-indexed publications from the beginning of 1982 to 2024. From this period, 470 relevant articles were identified for further analysis. The analysis process is carried out using bibliometric methods with PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) framework, with the help of R-Biblioshiny software, which allows in-depth analysis of patterns and trends in the literature. The analysis results show that this topic has experienced a significant increase in articles published, with an average annual growth of 11.59%. In addition, this topic also shows a reasonably high citation rate, with an average of 10.81 citations per article, indicating substantial influence in the academic community. Despite this, some areas are still not fully explored, such as artificial intelligence's role in decision-making in counseling, which represents a new and exciting niche for further research. Hopefully, this research will provide additional insights and encourage further research exploring the full potential of integrating artificial intelligence in counseling.

Abstract

The act of phubbing has been observed to disengage from their surroundings, often finding greater comfort in solitude with their mobile phones. The research objective was to ascertain the efficacy of solution-focused brief group counseling to reduce phubbing behavior in high school students. This study employed a quasi-experimental quantitative research methodology with a pretest-posttest control group design. A total of 10 students, exhibiting a high level of phubbing behavior, were divided into two groups: the experimental group and the control group. The results of the Two-Independent-Sample Test-Mann-Whitney U test are presented in the Asymp .sig column, with a value of 0.036 (0.036 <0.05). The results show that the value of Asymp. sig. which is smaller than 0.05, that is, there is a significant difference between the experimental and control groups. These results indicate that solution-focused brief group counseling may be an effective approach to reducing phubbing behavior in high school students.

Abstract

Toxic masculinity is a social construct in patriarchal societies, characterizing male attitudes that dominate and accentuate gender inequality with women in lower positions, influencing detrimental behavioral patterns. This research aims to examine the effectiveness of Rational Emotive Behavior Group Counseling in reducing toxic masculinity behaviors among high school students within the context of patriarchal culture. The study employed an experimental design with a pretest and posttest control group arrangement. From the Toxic masculinity inventory measurements, twelve students with high levels of toxic masculinity characteristics were identified. Subject selection was randomized, with six students in each experimental and control group. Data collected were analyzed using a paired sample T-test, revealing a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05). Therefore, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, indicating that Rational Emotive Behavior Group Counseling is effective in reducing toxic masculinity behaviors among high school students influenced by patriarchal culture. This research contributes to understanding the effectiveness of group counseling interventions with the Rational Emotive Behavior Group Counseling approach in addressing the impact of toxic masculinity. The implications have the potential to transform student behavior towards gender balance and equality within the patriarchal culture of high school education environments.

Abstract

Two quantitative and cross-sectional preliminary studies were conducted to address the issues of forgiveness in the context of the tendency to online game addiction among university students in Semarang, Indonesia. A forgiveness scale comprising three dimensions of forgiveness, including forgiveness of self, others, and situations, as well as two separate scales of the tendency to online game addiction, was used. Samples consisting of two groups of online gamers were obtained using a convenience sampling technique. The sample size of Study 1, conducted prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, was 114 participants (Male = 98.25%) from four game centers. Meanwhile, Study 2, which was carried out during the COVID-19 pandemic, examined 25 participants (Male = 88%) from a university esports community. Based on the assumption tests, the data were analyzed separately using Spearman’s rho (Study 1) and partial correlation (Study 2), resulting in contradictory results. In Study 1, only one dimension of forgiveness demonstrated a positive contribution, namely forgiveness of others. In contrast, the findings of Study 2 indicated that forgiveness in general and, in particular, forgiveness of others and forgiveness of situations, had a negative impact. Furthermore, differences in forgiveness between dimensions and between samples were also investigated. The results indicated the peculiarities of self-forgiveness. To understand the patterns of the contribution of forgiveness to the tendency to non-substance addictions, particularly online games, among university students, further studies on this topic may consider the globally accepted online gaming behavior, usage motivation, and game genres, level of a tendency to addiction, awareness of transgressions faced, and the burdens borne.
