Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of game models in teaching basic basketball skills at the junior high school level. Using the research and development (R&D) method, this study produced three innovative game models designed to improve dribbling, passing and shooting skills. The study involved 60 junior high school students (30 boys and 30 girls) aged 12-14 years. The results showed a significant improvement in the mastery of basic techniques (p < 0.05) and increased student motivation to learn basketball. The developed game model proved to be effective in improving students' motor skills and active participation, offering an attractive alternative to conventional teaching methods.

Abstract

Badminton is a sport that is very popular with Indonesian people. With so many people playing badminton, badminton has become one of the favorite sports of Indonesian people. Refereeing as part of badminton coaching is very important. When the referee enforces the rules of the game, the referee's role becomes the determining factor. A professional referee can be neutral and enforce the applicable rules of the game. Apart from that, there are also other criteria that are also needed so that a badminton referee must be physically and mentally healthy. The mechanism for implementing activities in general is in the form of planning/preparation, implementation, observation and evaluation, and reflection. This activity took place on 25 July – 26 July 2024, a theoretical presentation in the Hero University hall and continued on 27 July – 28 July 2024, a referee practice exam at the Muara Uwai Bangkinang Seberang Badminton Gym. It is hoped that this activity can produce competent and professional badminton referees in Riau Province.

Abstract

Objectives: This systematic literature review examines the role of the Convergent Discovery Teaching Style (CDTS) in developing fundamental soccer passing skills among youth and adolescent players. The study aims to synthesize empirical evidence regarding the effectiveness of CDTS compared to traditional directive teaching methodologies in sport physical education and coaching contexts. Methods: A systematic search was conducted across four electronic databases (Web of Science, Scopus, ERIC, and SPORTDiscus) from inception to December 2024 following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Studies were included if they: (1) investigated the application of CDTS or inquiry-based teaching styles; (2) targeted soccer passing skills as primary or secondary outcomes; (3) were published in peer-reviewed journals; and (4) included empirical data. From an initial pool of 430 records, 25 studies met the eligibility criteria and were included in the final analysis. Results: The analysis of 25 eligible studies (n total = 1,284 participants) revealed that CDTS was consistently associated with statistically significant improvements in short passing accuracy, long passing consistency, decision-making under pressure, and skill retention compared to command-style approaches. Effect sizes ranged from moderate to large (Cohen's d = 0.54–1.12). CDTS also demonstrated superior outcomes in cognitive engagement, tactical understanding, and intrinsic motivation among learners. Conclusion: CDTS emerges as a pedagogically sound and effective approach for developing soccer passing skills in youth populations. Its emphasis on guided problem-solving aligns with cognitive- constructivist frameworks of motor learning. Physical educators and coaches are encouraged to integrate CDTS within structured progression models. Future research should explore its long-term retention effects, optimal implementation dosage, and application across diverse cultural and competitive contexts.

Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to analyze the performance outcomes of 20-meter sprint and shuttle run tests among students participating in athletic extracurricular activities at SMPN 1 Teluk Batang, West Kalimantan, Indonesia. The study evaluates the effectiveness of an Android-based fitness testing and measurement application in assessing speed and agility as foundational physical competencies for athletics, with particular relevance to the standardized athlete monitoring framework of the All Indonesia Athletics Association (PASI). Methods: A descriptive quantitative research design was employed, involving ten purposively selected students (aged 12–14 years) who had undergone structured athletic extracurricular training for a minimum of six consecutive months. The 20-meter sprint test was administered to measure maximum running speed, while the shuttle run test was used to quantify agility. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics including mean, standard deviation, and percentage of achievement relative to established ideal benchmark values. Performance classification followed a four-tier categorical framework (Excellent, Good, Average, Poor). Ethical clearance was obtained prior to data collection. Results: In the 20-meter sprint test, one participant (10%) achieved the Excellent category, six (60%) were classified as Good, and three (30%) fell within the Average category. In the shuttle run test, seven participants (70%) achieved the Good category, while the remaining three (30%) were classified as Average. No participant was classified as Poor in either assessment. Collectively, 70% of participants demonstrated performance at or above the Good threshold across both physical fitness domains. Conclusion: Participation in structured athletic extracurricular programs is positively associated with measurable improvements in speed and agility among early-adolescent students. Android-based fitness testing tools demonstrate promising utility in standardizing field-based assessments within the PASI coaching ecosystem. Future research involving larger, more diverse samples and longitudinal designs is recommended.
