Abstract

Objectives: This study aimed to develop and evaluate a comprehensive mind-body wellness program that integrates Zumba exercise and mindfulness training to optimize fat metabolism and enhance mental health outcomes in sedentary adults. Methods: A quasi-experimental design was employed with 60 adult participants (aged 20-40) randomly assigned to an intervention group (n = 30) and a control group (n = 30). The intervention group underwent a 12-week program combining 3 sessions of Zumba (60 min each) and 2 mindfulness sessions (30 min each) per week. Comprehensive measurements included body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage, waist-to-hip ratio, fasting lipid profile, cortisol levels, Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ), and Physical Activity Enjoyment Scale (PACES). Data were analyzed using paired t-tests, independent t-tests, repeated measures ANOVA, and effect size calculations. Results: Participants in the intervention group showed significant reductions in BMI (-2.1 ± 0.4, p < 0.01), body fat percentage (-4.8%, p < 0.01), waist-to-hip ratio (-0.08 ± 0.02, p < 0.01), and stress levels (-6.2 ± 1.8, p < 0.01) compared to controls. Significant improvements were also observed in positive affect, mindfulness scores, exercise enjoyment, and cortisol regulation. Effect sizes were large for most outcome measures (Cohen's d > 0.8). Conclusion: The integration of Zumba exercise and mindfulness training in a structured wellness program effectively improved both metabolic and psychological health markers with sustained effects. These findings highlight the potential of hybrid physical-psychological interventions in holistic health promotion and provide evidence for community-based wellness programs

Abstract

Objectives: The development of junior badminton players hinges on fundamental skill acquisition. Although the physical and technical dimensions are extensively researched, the psychological factors affecting young athletes in badminton remain underexplored. This research examined the interconnections among sport confidence, intrinsic motivation, cognitive anxiety, and skill acquisition in junior badminton players. Methods: Thirty male junior badminton players participated in a 12-week study. Psychological factors were evaluated using various established inventories. Skill acquisition was quantified through a specialized Badminton Skill Test Battery. Path analysis was utilized to investigate the relationships between psychological factors and skill acquisition. Results: The path analysis model demonstrated excellent fit indices (CFI = .99, TLI = .98, RMSEA = .032, SRMR = .031). Sport confidence exerted the most substantial direct impact on skill acquisition (β = .42, p < .01), succeeded by intrinsic motivation (β = .35, p < .01). Cognitive anxiety adversely affected skill acquisition both directly (β = -.28, p < .05) and indirectly via sport confidence (β = -.15, p < .05). Intrinsic motivation also exhibited an indirect influence through sport confidence (β = .18, p < .05). The model accounted for 53% of the variance in skill acquisition. Conclusion: Sport confidence is identified as the primary determinant, indicating that enhancing confidence should be prioritized in youth badminton training initiatives. The beneficial effects of intrinsic motivation highlight the necessity of promoting enjoyment and personal engagement in the sport. The adverse effects of cognitive anxiety underscore the imperative for the integration of anxiety management strategies in the development of junior players.

Abstract

Objectives: Indonesia's Independence Day on August 17th is traditionally celebrated with folk games (permainan rakyat) that foster community spirit and preserve cultural heritage. Kolam Village required organized committee support to successfully implement these traditional sporting activities, addressing limited organizational capacity and declining youth participation in cultural events. This community service aimed to establish an effective organizing committee (kepanitiaan) for traditional folk games during the August 17th celebration, enhance community participation, preserve cultural heritage, and strengthen social cohesion among villagers. Methods: The program was implemented through participatory approaches including committee formation and training, event planning workshops, and direct facilitation of traditional games such as balap karung (sack race), tarik tambang (tug-of-war), makan kerupuk (cracker eating contest), and balap bakiak (wooden clog race). Implementation occurred over three months with pre-event preparation, execution, and post-event evaluation phases. Results: The program successfully engaged 250+ participants across all age groups, with 87% satisfaction rate among community members. The organizing committee effectively coordinated 8 traditional game categories, mobilized 45 volunteers, and demonstrated improved organizational capacity evidenced by enhanced time management, resource allocation, and community mobilization skills. Conclusion: The initiative strengthened community bonds, revived cultural traditions among youth, and established a sustainable model for future community events, with the organizing committee expressing commitment to continue annual celebrations.

Abstract

Objectives: Physical inactivity among elementary school students has become a growing concern in urban areas, including Medan City. The lack of structured physical activity programs in schools contributes to declining fitness levels and increases the risk of childhood obesity. This community service program addresses the urgent need to promote physical activity through gymnastics exercises among elementary school students. This program aimed to empower elementary school students by implementing a structured gymnastics-based physical activity program, improving students' knowledge about the importance of physical fitness, and enhancing their motor skills through systematic exercise routines. Methods: The program was conducted at three elementary schools in Medan City, involving 150 students aged 9-12 years. The implementation included socialization sessions, gymnastics training workshops for teachers, practical demonstrations, and regular practice sessions over eight weeks. Pre-test and post-test assessments were conducted using fitness tests and questionnaires to evaluate knowledge improvement. Results: The results showed significant improvement in students' physical fitness levels (78% increase in cardiovascular endurance), knowledge about physical activity benefits (85% improvement), and motor skill proficiency (72% enhancement). Student satisfaction reached 92%, and teacher competency in delivering gymnastics instruction increased by 88%. Conclusion: This program successfully established sustainable physical activity routines in partner schools, trained 15 teachers as gymnastics instructors, and created a replicable model for other schools in Medan City.

Abstract

Objectives: Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran pendidikan jasmani di SD Negeri 067248 Medan Marelan melalui penyediaan peralatan olahraga anak yang layak dan pelatihan penggunaannya kepada kelompok kerja guru. Methods: Pengabdian dilaksanakan dengan pendekatan partisipatif melalui tahapan analisis kebutuhan, pengadaan peralatan olahraga standar, pelatihan guru, dan pendampingan implementasi. Metode pengumpulan data menggunakan observasi, wawancara, dan kuesioner pre-post test terhadap 15 guru pendidikan jasmani. Results: Kegiatan menghasilkan pengadaan 25 jenis peralatan olahraga anak, peningkatan pengetahuan guru tentang penggunaan peralatan sebesar 78%, dan peningkatan kualitas pembelajaran pendidikan jasmani yang ditunjukkan melalui meningkatnya partisipasi siswa dalam aktivitas olahraga sebesar 65%. Conclusion: Program pengabdian berhasil meningkatkan kapasitas guru dan kualitas pembelajaran pendidikan jasmani melalui penyediaan peralatan yang memadai. Keberlanjutan program memerlukan komitmen sekolah dan dukungan pemeliharaan peralatan secara berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Objectives: Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan partisipasi warga Desa Paya Bakung dalam memperingati Hari Kemerdekaan Republik Indonesia melalui kolaborasi dengan mahasiswa, sekaligus memperkuat rasa nasionalisme dan kebersamaan masyarakat desa. Methods: Kegiatan dilaksanakan menggunakan pendekatan partisipatif dengan melibatkan masyarakat sebagai mitra utama. Metode yang digunakan meliputi koordinasi dengan perangkat desa, pembentukan panitia gabungan, pelatihan pengelolaan acara, dan pelaksanaan rangkaian kegiatan perlombaan serta hiburan rakyat. Tahapan kegiatan mencakup survei kebutuhan, perencanaan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi. Results: Kegiatan berhasil menggerakkan partisipasi 85% warga desa dengan melibatkan 250 peserta lomba dari berbagai kategori umur. Terbentuk 15 tim perlombaan dan terselenggara 12 jenis lomba tradisional. Kolaborasi mahasiswa dan masyarakat menghasilkan peningkatan kepuasan warga sebesar 90% berdasarkan survei pasca-kegiatan. Terjadi peningkatan kesadaran nasionalisme masyarakat yang ditunjukkan dengan antusiasme mengikuti upacara bendera dan kegiatan gotong royong. Conclusion: Kolaborasi antara mahasiswa dan masyarakat terbukti efektif dalam menyelenggarakan pesta rakyat yang meriah dan bermakna. Kegiatan ini berhasil meningkatkan semangat nasionalisme, memperkuat kohesi sosial, dan memberdayakan potensi lokal. Diperlukan keberlanjutan program serupa dengan melibatkan generasi muda sebagai agen perubahan di masa mendatang.

Abstract

Objectives: Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk melaksanakan tes dan pengukuran identifikasi bakat atlet badminton usia dini melalui program kemitraan dengan Dinas Pemuda dan Olahraga (Dispora) Kota Medan, serta memberikan data objektif mengenai potensi bakat atlet sebagai dasar pembinaan berkelanjutan. Methods: Kegiatan dilaksanakan di Kota Medan dengan melibatkan 40 atlet badminton usia 10-14 tahun menggunakan metode tes dan pengukuran yang mencakup: (1) tes antropometri (tinggi badan, berat badan, tinggi duduk, rentang lengan), (2) tes fisik sesuai 6 Parameter Fisik Nasional PBSI (VO2Max, court agility, vertical jump, skipping rope, sit up, push up), dan (3) tes keterampilan teknik dasar badminton. Data dianalisis menggunakan T-score untuk mengkategorikan tingkat keberbakatan. Results: Hasil menunjukkan bahwa dari 40 atlet yang diukur, 5 atlet (12,5%) masuk kategori sangat berbakat, 18 atlet (45%) kategori berbakat, 12 atlet (30%) cukup berbakat, dan 5 atlet (12,5%) kurang berbakat. Komponen VO2Max menunjukkan rata-rata kategori "baik" dengan bobot penilaian tertinggi (40%), sedangkan court agility dan koordinasi berada pada kategori "cukup". Conclusion: Program identifikasi bakat ini memberikan manfaat signifikan bagi Dispora Kota Medan dalam mendeteksi atlet potensial secara objektif dan ilmiah, serta menjadi dasar perencanaan pembinaan atlet jangka panjang yang terstruktur.

Abstract

Objectives: Penelitian ini bertujuan mengevaluasi pengembangan prestasi atlet gulat di STOK Bina Guna menggunakan desain mixed methods sequential explanatory. Methods: Tahap kuantitatif melibatkan 45 atlet gulat (24 pria, 21 wanita; usia 18-24 tahun) dengan analisis data prestasi 2022-2025 (medali nasional/internasional, ranking PB PORI) dan tes fisik (SWFT, grip strength, vertical jump). Tahap kualitatif melalui wawancara mendalam 12 pelatih/atlet dan analisis dokumen program latihan. Results: Hasil kuantitatif menunjukkan peningkatan medali nasional dari 8 (2022) menjadi 22 (2025; +175%), ranking nasional rata-rata naik 12 posisi (p<0.01), dan SWFT index meningkat 12.3% (pre: 14.9 ± 2.2; post: 13.1 ± 1.9; p=0.002). Kualitatif mengungkap tema utama: LTAD implementation efektif, strength training terstruktur, dan recovery monitoring optimal. Conclusion: Penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa program pengembangan STOK Bina Guna sukses meningkatkan prestasi melalui LTAD model dengan kontribusi signifikan pada prestasi wanita (65% total medali). Temuan ini memberikan model replikable untuk sekolah olahraga vokasi di Indonesia.
