Abstract

The utilization of yards by Women Farmers Groups is imperative for ensuring food security; however, the efficacy of this practice is contingent upon the optimal functioning of the group, which, in practice, continues to grapple with numerous impediments. The objective of this study is to analyze the role of the Green Women Farmers Group in utilizing yards in Anawai Village, Wua-Wua District, Kendari City. The research population consists of all 30 members of the Green Women Farmers Group. The sample was determined using the census method. The present study employed a quantitative approach. The data presented herein were collected through a variety of research methods, including surveys, in-depth interviews, and a meticulous review of relevant documentation. The research variables of interest were the role of farmer groups and the utilization of home gardens. The collected data were then subjected to analysis using quantitative descriptive methods. The findings indicated that the Green Women Farmers Group (KWT) in Anawai Village, Wua-Wua District, Kendari City, exhibited a high level of proficiency in the utilization of yards, particularly in its functions as a learning class, a conduit for cooperation, and a production unit. Conversely, the level of yard utilization by its members was found to be moderate, contingent on the diversity of commodities produced and the ensuing benefits obtained. A correlation analysis reveals a robust and statistically significant positive association between group role and yard utilization (r = 0.774; p < 0.05). This finding suggests that effective group function implementation is associated with enhanced yard management and productivity among its members. Women's farmer groups have been shown to make a significant contribution to enhancing the effectiveness of yard management and fostering more productive and sustainable use of local resources.

Abstract

The issue of sustainability is currently a very important issue in agricultural development. Organic farming is an application of a sustainable agricultural system. The back to nature lifestyle has become a trend for some people. However, the phenomenon encountered in the field is that there are still many organic farmers who have not fully implemented organic farming cultivation techniques in accordance with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) issued by the Indonesian National Standardization Agency (BSN) and the adoption of innovations also seems slow. This study was conducted to describe the tendency of communication network patterns in farmer women's groups so as to accelerate the process of diffusion of innovations related to the development of organic farming in Kambu District, Kendari City. The specific objectives were: (1) analyzing the role of each key informant; (2) knowing the pattern of communication networks formed in organic farming development activities. This research is a survey research using quantitative analysis. The research location is in Kambu Sub-district, Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi Province. Data collection was conducted through surveys, in-depth interviews, focused discussions and observations. Sample determination in this study is by census. Data analysis was descriptive. Abstract

Solar-based post-harvest drying is a sustainable solution to improve the quality and shelf life of agricultural products in tropical regions. The thermal performance of solar drying systems is strongly influenced by the absorber geometry as the main heat-absorbing component. This study aims to analyze the effect of absorber geometry variation on the thermal performance of a solar collector for post-harvest drying applications. A numerical approach based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) was employed using ANSYS Fluent under steady-state airflow conditions and uniform heat flux. Three copper absorber configurations were investigated: flat plate, 6-fin absorber, and 12-fin absorber. The evaluated parameters include temperature distribution, outlet air temperature, and inlet pressure. The results indicate that finned absorbers significantly enhance outlet air temperature compared to the flat-plate configuration, with the 12-fin absorber providing the highest thermal performance at the expense of increased pressure drop. These findings highlight a trade-off between thermal enhancement and airflow resistance. The study implies that absorber geometry optimization is an effective strategy to improve solar collector performance for post-harvest drying systems.

Abstract

The socio-economic characteristics of farmers constitute an essential aspect of agricultural development as they reflect human resource capacity and household economic conditions that influence farm management. Information on these characteristics is required as a basis for formulating agricultural development policies, designing agricultural extension programs, and implementing farmer empowerment strategies that are tailored to local conditions. However, studies specifically describing the socio-economic characteristics of maize farmers at the village level remain limited, particularly in Muna Regency. This study aimed to analyze the socio-economic characteristics of maize farmers in Kilambibito Village, Kontukowuna District, Muna Regency. A quantitative approach employing a survey method was applied in this study. The study population consisted of 75 maize farmers, from which 43 respondents were selected using the Slovin formula through simple random sampling. Primary data were collected through structured interviews using questionnaires and complemented with secondary data obtained from relevant institutions. Data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative techniques, including frequency distributions, percentages, and categorical classifications for each variable, namely age, educational attainment, farming experience, landholding size, labor utilization, farming capital, and farm income. The findings revealed that the majority of maize farmers were of productive age (54%), had completed senior high school or its equivalent (51%), and possessed more than ten years of farming experience (81%). Most respondents cultivated land ranging from 0.5 to 1.0 ha (79%) and employed four to five workers (49%). From an economic perspective, the majority of farmers had low farming capital (56%) and low farm income (56%). These findings indicate that maize farmers in Kilambibito Village possess considerable human resource potential, as reflected by their productive age structure, moderate educational attainment, and extensive farming experience. Nevertheless, limited access to capital and low farm income remain major constraints to farm development. Strengthening farmers' access to financial resources, enhancing farmers' capacities through continuous agricultural extension services, and optimizing the utilization of local resources are therefore essential to improve farming efficiency and the welfare of maize farming households.

Abstract

The role of women farmers in farm management has become increasingly important as women's participation in agricultural production activities and household decision-making continues to grow. Decision-making at each stage of crop cultivation is one of the key factors determining the success of farm management, as it involves selecting appropriate actions that meet crop production requirements. However, the level of women's involvement in decision-making varies across different stages of farm management. This study aimed to analyze the role of women farmers in decision-making related to long bean farming management in Taubonto Village, Rarowatu District, Bombana Regency. The study employed a quantitative approach using a survey method supported by descriptive analysis. A total of 30 women farmers were selected as respondents through Simple Random Sampling from a population of 150 farmers. Data were collected through structured interviews using questionnaires, field observations, and document reviews, and were analyzed descriptively using frequency distributions and percentage tabulations. The results revealed that the role of women farmers in decision-making differed across the stages of long bean farming management. Women farmers played a dominant role during the seedling stage, accounting for 53% of decision-making, indicating their substantial involvement in determining seed quality and nursery practices. In contrast, decision-making during land preparation, planting, crop maintenance, harvesting, and post-harvest activities was predominantly undertaken jointly by husbands and wives, although husbands remained more influential in certain activities requiring greater physical strength and technical expertise. These findings indicate that long bean farming management is based on collaborative decision-making between husbands and wives, with the division of roles determined by the characteristics of farming activities, knowledge, experience, and the capacities of individual household members. This study provides useful insights for developing agricultural extension and women’s empowerment programs aimed at strengthening women's participation in decision-making within horticultural farming systems.
