Abstract

The objective of this study is to ascertain the correlation between environmental factors and the rehabilitation of cocoa plantations in Nelombu Village, Mowewe District, East Kolaka Regency. The study population consists of 26 active cocoa farmers residing in Nelombu Village. The research sample was determined using the census method. The data presented herein was collected through the implementation of in-person interviews, which incorporated the use of a structured questionnaire. The research variables of interest were cocoa rehabilitation and environmental factors. The collected data was then analyzed using quantitative descriptive statistical methods and Spearman's rank correlation test. The findings of the study suggest that the robust correlation between environmental factors and cocoa plant rehabilitation can be attributed to intricate interactions among culture, society, and the individual impact of farmers. The mutually reinforcing relationship between these three factors is evident in the manner in which farmers manage their cocoa farms. This management is evident in the cultivation techniques employed, as well as in the decision-making processes related to variety selection, fertilizer use, pest control, and marketing. Consequently, the efficacy of management is contingent upon a harmonious equilibrium between conventional knowledge, social support systems, and access to superior information and resources. This underscores the significance of environmental factors in the context of cocoa farm management.

Abstract

Soil fertility issues are a challenge in the development of the agricultural sector in Indonesia. The lack of initial information and evaluation of soil fertility status can lead to inappropriate decisions in land management, which in turn affects crop yields, which are usually low. Some fertilisation technologies also do not function optimally and do not show a good response. This study aims to identify the chemical characteristics of the soil and the level of soil fertility in the oil palm plantation of PT. Tani Prima Makmur (PT. TPM) in Anggotoa Village, Wawotobi District, Konawe Regency. The research location is the oil palm plantation of PT. TPM in Anggotoa Village, Wawotobi District, Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province. This study was conducted using the free survey method (using the Toposekuen approach principle) to obtain differences in soil sampling locations. while on flatter slopes, soil fertility tends to be better. Several factors influencing fertility at this stage include Organic Carbon (OC), Base Saturation (BS), Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC), Total Phosphorus (TP), and Total Potassium (TP). Soil fertility status is classified as low on moderately steep slopes (15–25%) and moderate on flat slopes (0–8%) and gentle slopes (8–15%). Low organic matter content and base saturation are the primary factors affecting soil fertility in oil palm plantations.

Abstract

The expanding population and constrained agricultural land in Kendari City have catalysed the adoption of hydroponics as a solution for urban agriculture. Nevertheless, its efficacy remains suboptimal, underscoring the necessity for a study that explores the pivotal role of farmers' communication behaviour in facilitating innovation adoption and enhancing agricultural performance. The present study aims to analyse the relationship between farmers' communication behaviour and hydroponic farm performance. The research approach employs a quantitative method with a survey design. The population under scrutiny in this study consists of all hydroponic farmers in Kendari City, totalling 17 individuals. The data was collected through a census. The data collection techniques employed in this study encompassed various methods, including surveys, interviews, literature reviews, and documentation. The survey method was utilised as the primary technique for the collection of quantitative data from respondents via a structured questionnaire. The research variables were farmers' communication behaviour and hydroponic farming performance. The data analysis techniques employed in this study encompassed quantitative descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. The findings suggest that hydroponic farmers exhibit high levels of communication behaviour, particularly in terms of knowledge, intensity, and skills, which contribute significantly to farm performance categorised as "very good" in terms of quantity, quality, and timeliness. Correlation analysis indicates a positive and very strong relationship between communication behaviour and farm performance (ρ = 0.912; Sig. = 0.000), suggesting that an enhancement in farmers' communication behaviour is indicative of an optimal hydroponic farm performance. In the context of urban hydroponic agriculture, communication behaviour is no longer merely a supporting variable in the diffusion of innovation; rather, it is a primary determinant that integrates technical, managerial and market adaptation aspects to comprehensively enhance farm performance and sustainability.
