Abstract

This study aimed to develop and examine the feasibility and preliminary effectiveness of an animation-based learning medium integrated with Cooperative Learning for teaching Lampung folk tales in elementary schools. The study was motivated by low student achievement and the limited availability of culturally contextualized digital media in local language instruction. Using a Research and Development (R&D) approach, the learning media was developed through the ADDIE model, encompassing Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The participants consisted of 25 fourth-grade students from SDN 3 Rajabasa, Bandar Lampung. Expert validation indicated a high level of feasibility, with an average score of 88%. Learning outcomes were examined using a one-group pretest–posttest design, revealing a substantial increase in students' scores from a mean of 48.4 to 93.2. Paired-sample t-test results showed a statistically significant improvement (p < 0.001), accompanied by a large effect size (Cohen's d = 3.40), suggesting a strong learning impact within the study context. Students also reported very positive responses to the learning experience, with an average satisfaction score of 4.9 out of 5. These findings indicate that animation-based cooperative learning media can effectively support student engagement, comprehension, and appreciation of Lampung cultural values. While the results are promising, they should be interpreted as preliminary due to the limited sample and research design. The study offers practical insights for developing culturally responsive digital learning resources aligned with Indonesia's Merdeka Belajar (Freedom to Learn) policy.

Abstract

This article offers a critical examination of Tom Crewe's biographical novel The New Life (2023), focusing on its representation of homosexual subjectivity in Victorian England—a historical context defined by restrictive moral norms and punitive legal regimes that criminalised same-sex relationships. Drawing on Michel Foucault's theory of discursive power, Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick's concept of the closet, and Michael Boucai's topology of the closet, the study demonstrates that the novel portrays the closet not merely as a private site of concealment but as a complex social mechanism shaped by legal regulation, gender norms, and class-based power relations. Building on this theoretical framework, the article extends Sedgwick's notion of the closet by conceptualising it as a performative and ongoing practice of negotiation, continuously conditioned by specific social and historical contexts. The analysis further argues that marriage, masculinity, and middle-class respectability operate simultaneously as forms of protection and constraint, generating ethical tensions and uneven distributions of vulnerability, particularly along gendered lines. By foregrounding the paradoxical dynamics of the closet, this study contributes to queer literary criticism and biographical fiction studies, demonstrating how The New Life reimagines marginalised historical experiences while also exposing the limits of progressive discourse within enduring heteronormative social structures.

Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum places strong emphasis on students' character development, which is operationalized through the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5) comprising six core dimensions. As one of the primary curricular resources, textbooks are expected to reflect and mediate these character values in classroom learning. This study aims to examine the contribution of Javanese local wisdom represented in the Nagasasra textbook to supporting the implementation of P5. Employing a qualitative descriptive design, this research adopts a document-based analysis of the Nagasasra Javanese language textbooks for grades X, XI, and XII. Data were collected using a read-and-record technique and analyzed through systematic coding, categorization, and thematic interpretation, following the analytical procedures proposed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, as well as Creswell and Creswell. The units of analysis included words, phrases, sentences, discourse, illustrations, and Javanese idiomatic expressions embedded in the textbook content. The findings indicate that the Nagasasra textbook integrates Javanese local wisdom across all six dimensions of the Pancasila Student Profile, with prominent emphasis on piety, respect for diversity, mutual cooperation, independence, critical thinking, and creativity. The study underscores the potential of culturally grounded textbooks to function as pedagogical instruments for integrating local wisdom into character education and for strengthening the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in secondary education.
