Abstract

This community service project aims to provide education and practical skills for local residents to recycle used cooking oil into eco-friendly and economically valuable aroma therapy candles, named JELILIN. The target partners are community members actively involved in training sessions. The implementation strategy includes awareness sessions on the negative impacts of used oil, hands-on demonstrations of JELILIN production, and mentoring in product development and marketing. The results indicate an 85% increase in community knowledge of waste management and a 90% improvement in candle-making skills based on pre- and post-training evaluations. JELILIN not only helps reduce environmental pollution but also fosters creative business opportunities, thereby strengthening community empowerment and contributing to sustainable environmental conservation.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to enhance the understanding and capability of food-sector Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Tulungagung Regency in applying for halal certification. This activity uses the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, focusing on empowering MSME food communities by identifying existing assets, building networks, and providing training. The program took place from August to October 2024 and included socialization and assistance sessions. Through the socialization phase, participants gained knowledge about Halal Product Assurance (HPA) policies, regulations, Islamic Sharia requirements, ingredient knowledge, and halal production processes. During the assistance phase, participants were facilitated in submitting a self-declared halal certification application. Evaluation results showed a significant increase in participant understanding, from an average of 34.7% to 85.1%. Additionally, some MSME actors succeeded in obtaining halal certificates through self-declaration facilitation. These results are expected to improve the competitiveness of MSME food products in both local and national markets and expand market access. Future activities are recommended to expand the scope of regular certification facilitation for other micro-enterprises to support the growth of a sharia-based economy in Indonesia.

Abstract

  This community service project aimed to enhance the reading skills of second-semester university students at Universitas Islam Tribakti Lirboyo Kediri and Universitas Nusantara PGRI Kediri through an extensive reading program. The program, conducted from April to July 2025, involved 59 students and included training sessions and seminars focused on extensive reading strategies. The objective was to improve students' vocabulary, reading comprehension, and overall reading interest. This study employed a service-learning approach that included four key stages: investigation, preparation, action, and reflection. During the investigation stage, a pre-test and observations were conducted to assess students' baseline reading abilities. The results of the program showed significant improvements in students' vocabulary, reading comprehension, and reading interest. The program not only helped students understand academic texts more effectively but also fostered a more positive attitude toward reading. These findings suggest that extensive reading can significantly contribute to the development of essential literacy skills in EFL students. The program's success highlights the potential of using extensive reading as a key strategy to enhance students' language proficiency and foster a lifelong reading habit.

Abstract

This service focuses on improving financial literacy as a solution to the low transparency and accountability in fund management at the Neighborhood Association (RT) level in Tales Village, Kediri. The goal is to equip RT 02 RW 05 administrators and residents with a basic understanding and skills in budget planning, financial recording, and accountable reporting. The activities were carried out through a participatory approach and the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) method, including training, technical assistance, and participatory discussion forums. The results showed significant changes, such as the formation of a standard bookkeeping system, increased citizen participation in contributions, and the emergence of new local leaders in RT fund management. This program succeeded in building new institutions that support transparency, strengthen citizen trust, and encourage RT independence through more professional and participatory financial management.

Abstract

The flowcharting training at Sekolah Alam SAKA Kediri was initiated to address the need for enhancing students’ logical and systematic thinking skills, which were still limited. Flowcharting was chosen for its effectiveness in visualizing thought processes, facilitating problem analysis, and strengthening basic logic. This community service activity applied the Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) method through stages of discovering potential, envisioning goals, designing programs, connecting assets, and conducting evaluations. The training included socialization, learning flowchart symbols and structures, hands-on practice at school and on campus, and intensive mentoring. As a result, students gained a basic understanding of flowcharting concepts, were able to create simple flow diagrams, and demonstrated improvements in logical thinking, problem-solving skills, and structured thinking habits. Feedback from teachers and students indicated that the program was beneficial and has the potential to provide long-term impacts on students’ academic achievement and 21st-century skills.

Abstract

  This community service program aims to enhance both students’ and teachers’ awareness of the importance of anti-bullying education in fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment. The program employed a participatory approach based on Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) through socialization, teacher training, and interactive student activities that identified and utilized the existing potentials, assets, and strengths within the school and its surrounding community. The results indicate a notable improvement in students’ awareness of diversity and respect for differences, an increase in teachers’ competence in addressing bullying cases, and the formation of a more inclusive and supportive school climate for CSN. This program is expected to contribute to the sustainable strengthening of inclusive education practices within elementary schools.

Abstract

This community service program aims to improve the household economy of women in Randusongo Village, Gerih Sub- district, Ngawi Regency, East Java, through training on the production og environmentally friendly dishwashing soap. The training was designed to provide mother with practical skills that can be applied in daily life, especially in reducing household expenses, while at the same time encouraging environmentally responsible practices. The method used include socialization, demonstrations, and hand-on practice in the soap- making process. The result showed that participants were able to produce dishwashing soap independently with good quality and safe materials. This activity also enhanced participants’ knowledge and awareness that this program can help families save household expenses and foster a more eco-friendly lifestyle with in the community.

Abstract

Traditional Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) generally do not provide disaster mitigation education, as they focus more on religious teachings that emphasize the values of monotheism, sincerity, and surrender to Allah SWT. These values shape the students' mentality to remain steadfast and not panic when facing disasters. This community service-based research uses the Service Learning method to improve female students' understanding and knowledge of disasters and mitigation skills through earthquake disaster simulations. This participatory approach actively involves female students in the learning process, risk identification, disaster simulation, and evacuation. The aim of this study is to equip female students with preparedness skills in facing disasters by combining the strength of religious values, knowledge, and direct mitigation simulations. The research was conducted at Pondok Pesantren Daru Abdillal, Tanjungsari, Boyolangu, Tulungagung.

Abstract

The goal of this program is to increase the income of UMKM partners through high-value-added products (economic) by utilizing IoT technology and improving partner financial management with a digital bookkeeping application. The main problem in the black garlic production stage is the fermentation process, which still uses a rice cooker. The use of a rice cooker in the black garlic fermentation stage limits production, accommodating only 1-3 kg of garlic per session, and requires a longer fermentation time (14-40 days). The small capacity and long production time make it difficult to meet large market demand. Management challenges include manual and rudimentary bookkeeping. This is due to a lack of bookkeeping knowledge and partners finding it difficult. The result of this community service is that after using a fermentation machine with IoT technology, black garlic production capacity has increased. In terms of financial records, bookkeeping quality has improved after using digital bookkeeping.

Abstract

This community service program aims to assist MSMEs in strengthening their brand identity, implementing digital marketing strategies based on local wisdom, and fulfilling business legality requirements. The methods used include field observation, interviews, branding training, digital marketing workshops, and assistance in registering a Business Identification Number (NIB) and halal certification. The results of the activity indicate an increase in business awareness of the importance of legality, brand identity, and the use of digital media. Krupuk patak is developed through logo design, attractive packaging, and storytelling-based promotions that highlight local cultural values ​​such as the Petik Laut and Praonan traditions. Assistance with business legality has a positive impact on credibility and expanding market access. This activity is the first step in strengthening the coastal community economy based on local potential and culture.
