Abstract

The surge in popularity of Boys' Love series within Indonesia's Gen Z has raised concerns for its promotion of LGBTQ+ themes. This research focuses on studying the impact of watching Boys' Love on adolescent sexual orientation. Over a two-month period, a qualitative research study centered on 19 screened respondents from South Jakarta, identified as Boys' Love viewers, aimed to understand the factors driving teenagers to engage with this content, its impact on their sexual orientation, and the corresponding Islamic perspective. The study uncovers five dominant factors motivating teenagers to watch Boys' Love series, shedding light on potential influences on the mental and moral development of adolescents. Additionally, it explores Islamic attitudes toward these influences, emphasizing both preventive and curative measures to address sexual deviations in adolescents. These findings emphasize the necessity for awareness among today's Gen Z, urging selective media consumption for leisure. This study underscores the importance of cultivating a different understanding of Islamic principles, encouraging the younger generation to equip themselves with knowledge and implement Islamic values to prevent potential negative impacts on their mental and moral well-being. Therefore, balancing current trends with cultural and religious values is important to navigate the influence of media on the younger generation.

Abstract

This study highlights the importance of a deep understanding of gender as a key foundation in understanding identity, sexual rights, and the dynamics of healthy interpersonal relationships. Through library research, this study summarizes, evaluates, and integrates previous findings to gain a comprehensive understanding. The results of the study confirmed that sexual education approaches that consider gender roles are able to overcome stereotypes and promote gender equality. Effective sexual education not only expands knowledge but also has a substantial impact on the health and well-being of children. It includes a deeper understanding of sexual health, the ability to make wise decisions in interpersonal relationships, and support for mental health. In addition, the important role of teachers and parents in providing sexual education cannot be underestimated. Teachers help deliver inclusive and accurate sexual education, while parents have a significant role to play in facilitating open communication in the home environment. The involvement of both has a central role in forming a solid foundation for better understanding and a more holistic approach to continuing sexual education.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools are places to learn and develop the knowledge gained by students. Islamic boarding schools also emphasize the science of jurisprudence which requires practice in daily life to a certain extent. The aim of this research is to explain the implementation of women's jurisprudence based on books studied in lessons at the Al-Fattah Islamic Boarding School, Kartasura, Sukoharjo, Central Java. In this case, women's jurisprudence is limited to menstruation, childbirth and istiadhah, in relation to marriage law. This research is a qualitative descriptive study with data in the form of documents (in the form of books used in learning), interview results (to students and ustadz/ustadzah) and observation results (learning process). The data validation technique uses triangulation of theory, methods and data. The data analysis technique uses the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The research results show that learning about menstruation, postpartum and istiadhah helps students to understand and apply the teachings according to the understanding obtained. The relationship between marriage and menstruation, postpartum and istiadhah can help students understand how to deal with their situation as a wife and husband. The novelty of the research results obtained lies in the students' understanding that when menstruating, a woman cannot be divorced by her husband.

Abstract

Tantrums are intense anger outbursts that occur when children struggle to communicate their needs and goals. They are common in children who are highly energetic, ambitious, and active. Inconsistent parenting and unrealistic expectations often make the problem worse. These factors can lead to challenges in emotional regulation, particularly in children aged 18 months to 4 years. This study aimed to explore the causes of tantrum behavior in early childhood in Barru District, Barru Regency. Using a quantitative cross-sectional design, researchers gathered data from 90 eligible respondents. The study used interviews, observations, and Likert-scale questionnaires to collect information. Data analysis was conducted with the chi-square test at a significance level of α = 0.05. The results revealed significant links between tantrum behavior and several factors. Physiological issues, psychological challenges, environmental influences, and parenting practices all showed strong associations (p = 0.000 for each factor). These findings emphasize the interconnected nature of these elements in shaping tantrum behavior. In conclusion, this study proves that tantrum behavior in early childhood is not caused by a single factor. Instead, it results from a combination of psychological, environmental, and parenting factors. Understanding these relationships can help parents and caregivers better address emotional challenges in young children.

Abstract

This study examines the socio-cultural construction of sexism within the Mandar community, a society in Sulawesi Barat known for its rich traditions and historical significance. It aims to uncover how gender dynamics are internalized and reproduced, focusing on the intersection of traditional values, modernity, and global influences. The research specifically explores the role of sibaliparri, a traditional gender relation system, in shaping societal norms and expectations. Using a qualitative field research approach, data was gathered through direct observation and in-depth interactions with local stakeholders. This method provided a detailed understanding of how sexism manifests within the social fabric of Mandar. The findings show that sexism positions men as dominant and women as subordinate, leading to unequal opportunities in education, employment, and decision-making. These disparities are further amplified by modern influences, particularly through cultural shifts introduced by social media. By contextualizing sexism within the unique socio-cultural framework of Mandar, this research offers an original perspective on gender inequality. It highlights the tension between preserving traditional values and adapting to modern influences, emphasizing the need for culturally sensitive strategies to address these disparities. The study underscores the importance of inclusive communication practices and tailored interventions to promote gender equity in the Mandar community and beyond.

Abstract

Popular culture disseminated through social media has driven a transformation in masculine values within urban communities, particularly among men who use fashion and skincare products. This study aims to examine the shift in masculinity values from traditional to modern and to analyze the social interaction processes among male fashion users in Mataram. Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected via in-depth interviews with twelve male informants actively engaged with fashion and skincare. Analysis was conducted using phenomenological reduction techniques, along with source and time triangulation. The findings indicate that traditional masculinity centered on physical strength and dominance has shifted toward a more flexible, reflective, and self-care–oriented modern masculinity. Social interactions occur directly through peer groups and indirectly via social media, which serves as a platform for exchanging new masculine symbols and identities. These findings highlight the importance of reconstructing understandings of masculinity within the context of popular culture and digital technology, offering theoretical contributions to gender, media, and cultural sociology studies.

Abstract

This study examines gender differences in visual-spatial abilities, focusing on the consistency of these differences and the factors influencing them. The study aims to understand the extent to which gender differences in visual-spatial abilities are consistent and what factors contribute to these differences. Utilizing a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach guided by PRISMA, this study synthesizes findings from various previous studies on visual-spatial abilities in men and women. Literature searches were conducted in Scopus, Web of Science, and Taylor & Francis databases, with inclusion criteria covering empirical studies from the past two decades. The selection process yielded 13 primary studies for thematic analysis. Inductive thematic analysis reveals that gender differences in visual-spatial abilities, consistently favoring men, are supported by differences in brain structure and testosterone levels. However, these findings are not entirely absolute, as training and experience show potential for reducing the gender gap in visual-spatial abilities. Cross-cultural studies also suggest that social and cultural contexts influence visual-spatial abilities, regardless of gender. The findings of this study contribute significantly to the literature on gender differences in visual-spatial abilities by strengthening the understanding of biological, social, and educational factors that impact these differences.

Abstract

This study explores gender equality within the family from a Qur’anic perspective, emphasizing that the marital relationship should be rooted in justice, compassion, and cooperation. Employing a qualitative method, the research examines key Qur’anic verses, including those from Surah An-Nisa and Al-Baqarah, alongside interpretations from classical scholars, such as Al-Qurtubi, and contemporary thinkers like Sayyid Qutb, Muhammad Abduh, Ibn Ashur, M. Rashid Rida, Hamka, and M. Quraish Shihab. The findings reveal that the husband’s role as family leader is a moral obligation grounded in responsibility, rather than authority or domination. Similarly, the wife’s role in child-rearing and maintaining emotional stability is highlighted as vital to fostering household harmony. Together, these roles are presented as complementary, ensuring balance and mutual respect within the family. This research provides insights into establishing adaptive, sustainable households that promote both individual well-being and societal stability. By offering a framework for harmonious family life, it contributes to broader discussions on gender equality and its role in fostering social cohesion.

Abstract

The study of women’s authority from the perspective of ḥadīth is a timely issue in contemporary discourse, particularly regarding women’s roles in leadership and decision-making across various spheres. This research aims to explore the understanding of ḥadīths related to women’s authority, both in normative and historical contexts. The findings indicate that comprehension of ḥadīths concerning women’s authority requires a contextual approach that accounts for the social, cultural, and historical backgrounds in which these traditions emerged. Furthermore, this study emphasises the importance of distinguishing between universally normative ḥadīths and those that are locally contextual. In many cases, women’s authority is not inherently constrained by religious normative texts, but is instead shaped by scholarly interpretations influenced by patriarchal contexts. This article recommends a re-reading of ḥadīths using a critical hermeneutic approach to uncover more inclusive dimensions of gender justice. By doing so, the understanding of women’s authority in Islam can contribute to establishing a more equitable and just social order, without compromising the core values taught in the religion.
