Abstract

Limited access to science laboratory facilities in remote schools often decreases students’ interest in learning science, creating a need for more meaningful learning experiences. This study aimed to enhance student engagement in science learning through the use of microscopes and school community empowerment at SMPN Satap 1 Jerowaru. A participatory approach was employed, consisting of an initial needs assessment, structured training on microscope operation, guided classroom implementation, and evaluation through observations, interviews, and student questionnaires. Data were analyzed descriptively to assess changes in students’ motivation and participation, as well as improvements in teachers’ competencies. The results show a significant increase in students’ motivation, curiosity, and active participation, reflected in questionnaire scores categorized as “Very Good” and “Good.” Teachers also demonstrated enhanced skills in integrating microscope-based activities into science lessons. The study concludes that microscope-based learning supported by an empowered school community can serve as an effective and sustainable model for schools with limited laboratory facilities. Scientifically and practically, these findings highlight the need for broader implementation and further development of community-supported laboratory practices to strengthen scientific literacy in similar contexts.

Abstract

Indonesia ranks third globally in Pinctada maxima pearl quality, yet small-scale farmers in Sugian Village, East Lombok face critical challenges with spat survival rates of only 1-5%, far below the economically viable minimum of 25-30%. Limited knowledge and skills in providing quality live feed constitute the primary constraint. This community service program aimed to enhance community capacity in communal live feed cultivation and establish sustainable production systems through technology transfer. The program employed a community-based learning approach with 18 participants, involving socialization, participatory facility development, technical training in Chaetoceros sp. cultivation, and comparative trials between outdoor and laboratory culture systems over four months. The outdoor culture system achieved Chaetoceros sp. density of 3.28 × 10⁶ cells/ml on day-3, only 9.8% lower than laboratory conditions (3.60 × 10⁶ cells/ml). Training significantly improved participants' knowledge from 16.7% (pre-test) to 83.3% (post-test), with 88.9% demonstrating independent culture capability and 46% mastering cell density calculation techniques using haemocytometer. The communal live feed cultivation model proved viable and sustainable, providing knowledge foundation for improving spat survival rates through consistent quality feed provision. This replicable model offers a practical framework for empowering small-scale pearl oyster farmers, potentially increasing spat survival rates from 1-5% toward the target of 25-30% through adoption of proven immersion feeding techniques.

Abstract

Kelebuh Village has abundant local food resource potential in the form of arrowroot tubers (marus), but its utilization is still limited to traditional processing, resulting in low economic value and short shelf life. This community service activity aims to provide comprehensive education regarding the nutritional value of arrowroot as a functional food and introduce flour processing technology and its product diversification. The implementation method was carried out through four main stages: preparation, nutritional counseling by Batunyala Health Center experts, education on flour processing technology, and organoleptic testing of innovative products. The results of the activity showed that through nutritional counseling, the community successfully increased literacy regarding the benefits of dietary fiber and the low glycemic index of arrowroot for digestive health and prevention of degenerative diseases. During the technology education stage, the community mastered the technical skills of transforming fresh tubers into flour through slicing, hygienic drying, and milling processes to extend the shelf life of the raw material. Diversified products in the form of Marus Brownies and Marus Porridge received positive responses through organoleptic tests, with an acceptance rate of 95% in the taste aspect. This activity is expected to encourage food independence and become a pioneer for culinary businesses based on local wisdom in Kelebuh Village.

Abstract

The fluctuating availability of feed forage, especially in the dry season, is the main obstacle in the people-scale ruminant livestock business. This service activity aims to optimize the availability of feed through socialization and planting lamtoro (Leucaena leucocephala) as a source of protein forage. The activity was carried out in West Pengadangan Village, Pringgasela District, East Lombok Regency, with a community empowerment approach. The implementation method includes coordination with the village government and breeder partners, socialization through lectures and discussions, technical demonstrations of simple seedlings and cultivation, planting lamtoro seedlings at the agreed planting point, as well as initial monitoring of growth and participant feedback. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' understanding of the benefits of lamtoro as an additional feed, planting techniques and initial maintenance, as well as the formation of residents' commitment to utilize yard land and less productive land as a source of forage. Planting seedlings is the first step in establishing a sustainable source of feed which is expected to reduce dependence on finding food from outside the village in critical periods. This activity suggests follow-up in the form of maintenance assistance, strengthening the availability of seeds, and expanding the planting area through livestock groups.

Abstract

Self-confidence is an essential component of adolescents’ psychosocial development; however, it is often misunderstood as behavior that dominates or harms others. Therefore, this community service program aimed to enhance students’ understanding and attitudes toward positive self-confidence through a psychoeducational mentoring program entitled “Glow Up from Within: Confident Without Hurting Others.” The program was conducted at SMP Islam Khadijah in October 2025 and involved all junior high school students. It applied an interactive psychoeducational approach through seminars, group discussions, and self-reflection activities. Program evaluation was conducted using multiple-choice questionnaires, Likert-scale statements, and reflective questions to assess students’ understanding and attitudes. The results showed that all students demonstrated a strong understanding of healthy self-confidence concepts. In contrast, most students showed positive attitudes in expressing opinions, demonstrating social empathy, and developing self-awareness. Students’ reflections also revealed increased confidence and a commitment to positive behavioral change. In conclusion, psychoeducational mentoring proved to be an effective approach to fostering healthy and empathetic self-confidence among junior high school students. These findings imply that similar psychoeducational programs can be implemented in schools as a strategy to support students’ socio-emotional development and promote constructive self-confidence without negatively affecting others.
