Abstract

The House of Representatives (DPR RI) Library is a specialized library that provides services to members of parliament and the general public, serving as a center for information, archives, and research on development and political issues in Indonesia. In its implementation, the library serves as a liaison institution and compiles accurate records of the DPR RI's legislative activities for the public. Through the MSIB program, students with a background in Library and Information Science have the opportunity to intern as Assistant Librarians and carry out direct management activities at the DPR RI library, while also gaining experience related to the management of a special library. This program covers various tasks that support library operations, including circulation services, assisting users in accessing information, promoting the library, and processing library materials, both print and digital. The method used in this article is qualitative, with direct practice, observation, and documentation as data collection methods. The results of this internship provide increased competency in mastering technical skills (library collection processing) and non-technical skills (communication, time management, collaboration) in the library. In addition, the MSIB program provides an overview of the special services offered by the DPR RI Library for library users (e-kliping, e-paper, SiPinter, RAMEN, etc.), as well as insight into the operational mechanisms at the DPR RI Library and the importance of collaboration in information management and public services.

Abstract

The digitalization of academic libraries has become a strategic necessity to support the effectiveness of information services in higher education. This article aims to describe the implementation of student internships as a form of professional practice-based service in supporting the digitalization of services at the Bandung State Polytechnic Library. The discussion focuses on the implementation of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, optimization of the library automation system based on the Senayan Library Management System (SLiMS), and management of the institution's digital repository using the Ganesha Digital Library (GDL). The method used is a participatory approach and mentoring, where students are directly involved in the library's technical and operational activities. The results of the activities indicate that implementing RFID can improve the efficiency of circulation services and collection inventory, while optimizing SLiMS supports the integration of cataloging, circulation, and information access services through the OPAC. The management of digital repositories accompanied by document and metadata standardization contributes to improved access and retrieval of scientific works. The internship activities help strengthen human resources' readiness for the library's digital transformation. However, implementation remains limited to a portion of the collection and has not been accompanied by a quantitative evaluation of user satisfaction.

Abstract

The university library plays a central role in providing academic information resources and requires systematic collection management to ensure optimal utilization by the academic community. Good collection management is characterized by the neat, orderly arrangement of library materials for easy retrieval and use, with book labeling as a crucial element of this order. At the Gunung Batu Integrated Library, some book collections are still managed using a manual labeling system. In this context, the Program Penguatan Profesi Kepustakawanan Non Kependidikan (P3KNK) provides support through internships in the implementation of library collection management activities. The purpose of this article is to discuss the obstacles encountered in manual labeling in book collection management at the Gunung Batu Integrated Library and its relationship to the role of student P3KNK in assisting with library management activities. This article uses a qualitative descriptive approach to systematically describe the phenomenon of the implementation of P3KNK at the Gunung Batu Integrated Library. The results indicate that manual labeling poses several obstacles, including the relatively long time required, inconsistent label writing, and an increased risk of misplacing collections. Through internship activities, students have the opportunity to apply the librarianship knowledge and skills they learned in lectures through direct practice in the field.

Abstract

The Library and Information Science Study Program at the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) is one of the programs that produce prospective librarians in Indonesia. Librarians are required to keep up with the times, so the Library and Information Science Study Program of UPI is obliged to provide opportunities for prospective librarian students to improve their competencies through internships. The purpose of this community service is to determine the implementation of service learning in the Program Penguatan Profesional Kepustakaan Non-Kependidikan (P3KNK) carried out by UPI students at the Geological Survey Central Library. The methods used include pre-implementation, implementation, and post-implementation stages. The results obtained during the program implementation: students carried out various activities, starting from inventorying collections in the form of data entry from library shelves to Google Sheets, checking shelf locations in SLiMS, checking collection locations on the GeoKids service, and converting rare collections in physical form into digital format using a scanner with the results in PDF files. Overall, this P3KNK activity provided deeper insights into library management applicable to institutional libraries, especially special libraries, and offered solutions that can be implemented to improve the quality of library services in the future.

Abstract

Maintaining the relevance and quality of collections in a vocational library is critical given the rapid evolution of industry standards. This study describes the systematic collection revitalization process at the Poltekpar NHI Bandung Library, carried out through weeding and stock-taking activities. Using a descriptive-qualitative approach based on an intensive 40-day Program Penguatan Pengalaman Profesional Non-Kependidikan (P3NK), the revitalization followed strict criteria, including physical condition, usage frequency, and a 10-year currency rule, to ensure alignment with the needs of the tourism and hospitality industry. The weeding process identified 612 copies for removal, with the highest concentration in the 600 class (applied sciences). Following the wedding, a comprehensive stock opname revealed a physical count of 14,479 copies. Data synchronization between physical findings and the integrated library database (website) identified a discrepancy of 615 copies. Challenges such as technical inaccuracies in security systems and suboptimal procurement processes influenced the decision-making during the weeding stage. This study underscores that systematic collection maintenance is essential for vocational libraries to provide up-to-date resources and improve overall service efficiency.

Abstract

Manual cataloging processes can hinder librarians from performing other tasks. The adoption of technology in cataloging processes can streamline librarians’ work, facilitate information retrieval, and improve access to information. The objective of this initiative is to organize information and technology, including migrating the book security system from conventional methods to Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, as well as streamlining the cataloging workflow, thereby reducing the time required for inputting data on new books—a process previously done manually by hand. Additionally, this initiative helps promote the library to attract more patrons. The stages of this community service project consist of three categories: pre-implementation activities, internship implementation activities, and post-implementation activities. The implementation of the community service project at Unit Penunjang Akademik (UPA) Perpustakaan Polban during the period from November 2025 to January 2026 has produced a number of significant tangible outcomes. One of the most notable achievements in the field of information technology was the initiation of the development of cataloging software. Meanwhile, efforts to bring the library closer to Gen Z student patrons were realized through the production of creative content.

Abstract

Polytechnic libraries in Indonesia face multidimensional challenges in service development. However, these are often not addressed systematically due to limited resources and the absence of user-needs-based data to inform planning. This article documents and analyzes the Program Pengalaman Profesional Non-Kependidikan (P3NK) implemented at the Bandung State Polytechnic Library (Polban) for 30 working days from November 2025 to January 2026. This program was implemented in response to four identified operational problems: the lack of integration of all collections with the RFID system, the lack of digitization of old printed reports, the lack of empirical data on user needs, and the lack of a sustainable service promotion strategy. Using a qualitative descriptive approach that includes participant observation, online surveys, process documentation, and informal interviews, this program integrates six areas for development. Five of the six objectives were fully achieved: the survey resulted in a mapping of library users' needs based on 60 respondents as the first systematic empirical data, digitalization secured the scientific archive of published reports from 2006-2009 in a standardized PDF format, shelving ensured consistent collection order based on DDC, and Instagram promotion successfully introduced the Fiction Corner innovation to library users. RFID implementation was only partially achieved due to the program's limited duration. Four operational constraints were identified along with alternative solutions.

Abstract

This article reports on a community service intervention to strengthen the STIA LAN Bandung Polytechnic Library's services through collection management, digital content production, and accreditation support. The partner library faced three specific problems: the accumulation of 127 uncataloged alumni-donated books, unverified inventory data for Final Project deposit collections, and a lack of digital content for institutional branding. A service-learning approach was implemented over 25 working days (November 2025-January 2026) through three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation, with achievements measured using indicators adapted from Kirkpatrick's Level 2 (learning) and Level 3 (behavior) models. The results showed that 127 books were recorded in the Master Book; 342 Final Project deposit collections were verified through stocktaking with 94.7percent accuracy; six digital content pieces were produced (generating 1,200+ social media impressions); and one accreditation support report was completed. The novelty of this study lies in the integrated model that combines conventional collection management with digital branding strengthening within a single service-learning framework for the vocational library context. This achievement can serve as a replicable model for strengthening student-centered library services in vocational colleges.
