Abstract

Smartphone addiction among adolescents has emerged as a significant psychological concern in the digital era, marked by compulsive smartphone use, emotional dysregulation, and increased anxiety, depression, and sleep disturbances. Adolescents are particuraly vulnerable due to the critical stage of their social-emotional development and their hight exposure to digital devices. This literature review aims to examine the effectiveness of mindfulness-based interventions in reducing the psychological impact of smartphone addiction among adolescents. Ten relevant studies were reviewed and synthesized based on the type of interventions, target outcome, and application context. The results indicate that mindfulness-through approaches such as Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), school-based mindfulness training, and self-awareness education can effectively reduce stress, improve emotional regulations, and minimize problematic smartphone use. The interventions were found to be applicable in both clinical and educational setting. In conclusion, mindfulness represents a promising strategy within the field of positive psychology to address smartphone addiction and to support adolescent mental health in an increasingly digital environment.

Abstract

The role of women in the family is no longer limited to being the primary caregiver, but also as important contributors to the economy. This has led to many women having to juggle dual roles as mothers and workers. The challenges faced by mothers become even greater when they have children with special needs who require more attention than typical children. This systematic review aims to explore the psychological well-being of working mothers who have children with special needs, a group facing dual pressures from professional responsibilities and caregiving demands. Based on the analysis of 10 selected peer reviewed articles (2015-2025), the findings indicate that psychological well-being is shaped by various factors, including social support, work flexibility, self-acceptance, and healthy coping strategies. Additionally, disparities in access to essential services such as counselling, inclusive daycare, and digital information pose significant challenges, particularly for mothers with lower education and digital literacy levels. While dual roles may increase stress and emotional fatigue, psychological well-being remains achievable through a combination of internal and external protective factors. Therefore, multidimensional interventions encompassing psychological, social, and policy reforms are crucial to enhance sustainably the quality of life for working mothers with special needs children.

Abstract

In our fast-paced and distracted modern lives, simple moments of aesthetic significance are often overlooked, even though everyday beauty has significant potential to strengthen individuals' psychological well-being. This study aims to examine how appreciation of everyday beauty contributes to the restoration and strengthening of mental health. Using a literature review approach, 27 national and international scientific articles published from 2015-2025 were thematically analyzed from various databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, EBSCO, and Scopus. The studies covered the themes of aesthetic experience, positive emotions, self-reflection, psychological resilience, and meaning-making in everyday contexts. The results show that appreciation of everyday beauty - whether in the form of nature, art, moral actions, specific achievements or accomplishments, or social relationships - contributes to increased positive affect, gratitude, meaning in life, and emotional flexibility. In addition, aesthetic experience-based interventions such as beauty journaling and narrative reflection were found to be effective in increasing happiness and reducing stress symptoms. These findings confirm that Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence (ABE) is a relevant character strength as a humanistic, low-cost, inclusive, and contextualized psychological recovery mechanism, and can be an important foundation for the development of promotive strategies in the mental health of Indonesians.

Abstract

Child marriage remains a pressing issue in Indonesia, particularly in traditional communities such as Tuban Regency, East Java. This study explores the role of PUSPAGA (Family Learning Center) as a government initiative in reducing the incidence of child marriage through premarital counseling for marriage dispensation applicants. Using a qualitative case study method, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation at the Department of Social Affairs, Women’s Empowerment, and Child Protection in Tuban. Findings reveal that most applicants are aged 15–18 and have low educational backgrounds, with economic hardship, premarital pregnancy, and cultural norms being the main drivers of early marriage. PUSPAGA plays a crucial role in assessing the readiness of prospective underage couples and educating families about the psychological, social, and legal consequences of early marriage. The counseling process also serves as a social intervention that challenges patriarchal values and strengthens family resilience. The study underscores the importance of preventive psychosocial services in protecting children’s rights and promoting gender-sensitive development.

Abstract

This literature review explores the dynamics of academic stress and happiness among students across various educational levels. Academic stress, arising from factors such as high expectations, heavy workloads, and peer pressure, negatively impacts students' well-being and happiness. Research indicates a consistent negative correlation between academic stress and happiness, emphasizing the urgent need for effective support systems within educational institutions. The review highlights key factors that influence this relationship, including emotional closeness with family, self-efficacy, and coping mechanisms such as mindfulness and physical activity. Additionally, the transition to online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated academic stress and hindered happiness. The findings underscore the importance of creating supportive environments and collaborative efforts among educators, parents, and communities to enhance students' emotional and psychological well-being, enabling them to thrive academically and personally.

Abstract

Psychosocial services play a crucial role in supporting children who are victims of sexual abuse (CSA), particularly in areas with high case numbers such as Bandar Lampung. This paper discusses the psychological and social consequences of CSA on victims aged 4–17 years, emphasizing the prevalence of emotional disturbances such as anxiety, PTSD, and low self-esteem. Using qualitative methods through interviews and observations at the UPTD PPA Bandar Lampung, findings indicate that most victims come from lower economic backgrounds, with girls aged 6–12 being the most affected. The perpetrator-victim relationship is often close, involving neighbors, caregivers, or acquaintances. The discussion integrates theories such as attribution, bystander effect, conformity, sexism, and gender roles to understand community responses and systemic challenges. Additionally, the media’s role in desensitization and the need for comprehensive sex education are emphasized. Psychosocial services, especially those involving family, legal support, and therapeutic counseling, are essential for child recovery and community prevention efforts.

Abstract

Adolescents with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) often face complex challenges in their social relationships of rejection, including rejection from peers, stigma and difficulty in building meaningful friendships. However, some of them are able to show resilience in adapting positively in the midst of the social pressures they face. This study aims to explore the role of peer support as a social protective factor in building resilience of adolescents with ADHD through the perspective of Positive Psychology. This study uses a literature review method that refers to 20 selected articles in the range of 2015 – 2025, which are then analyzed thematically. The results of the review show that peer support contributes greatly to increased social acceptance, self-efficacy, emotion regulation, and minimizing the impact of stigma. Supportive peer relationships not only encourage adaptive coping strategies but also serve as a foundation for healthier psychosocial development, especially for adolescents with ADHD. The study also emphasizes the need for a shift from a deficit paradigm to a culturally sensitive strength, in order to maximize the resilience potential of adolescents with ADHD in their social contexts.

Abstract

Screening and rehabilitation intervention activities for students with drug abuse constitute a program implemented by Bidang Rehabilitasi Badan Narkotika Nasional Provinsi Jawa Timur. This research aims to understand the experience of screening and rehabilitation activities conducted among school student groups and primary clinic rehabilitation clients. This study employs a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data were collected through interview and observation methods involving eight school students and young addiction counselors, as weel as previous research to support data validity. Case analysis used Brofenbrenner’s Ecological Theory to understand various relational contexts and their influence in shaping individuals. The study found that family environment factors, such as parenting styles and drug use within the family, are significant causes of drug abuse behavior among students. Additionally, the school environment, peer influence, and the normalization of deviant culture contribute to the emergence of negative drug abuse behavior among adolescents. Strengthening coordination between BNNP Jawa Timur, schools, families, and the social community is necessary to build a comprehensive support system.

Abstract

Juvenile theft offenders often struggle with emotional regulation, low self-awareness, and poor impulse control, hindering their rehabilitation and readiness for reintegration. Conventional interventions, such as legal correction and formal mindfulness programs, have been used to address these issues. However, such methods often lack engagement, particularly among adolescents, and may not align with their developmental needs. This study introduces an entrepreneurship-based mindfulness approach as a more adaptive and engaging alternative. The program integrates creative, hands-on vocational training with implicit mindfulness principles, such as focus, patience, and emotional awareness. This research aims to explore how structured entrepreneurship classes can support mindfulness and work preparedness among juvenile offenders in a correctional facility. Using a descriptive qualitative method, the study involved observations and interviews with 10 participants at UPT PRSMP Surabaya over four weeks of intervention. The findings suggest that participants experienced behavioral improvements such as increased calmness, cooperation, and task focus. These insights demonstrate the potential of entrepreneurship-based mindfulness programs as supportive tools for rehabilitation.
