Abstract

Bipolar Affective Disorder is a type of severe mental illness characterized by extreme mood fluctuations, ranging from deep depressive phases to highly manic episodes. This study aims to gain a deeper understanding of the characteristics of Bipolar Affective Disorder through a case study of a patient treated at a psychiatric clinic in Surabaya. The research employs observational methods, interviews, and a literature review to collect relevant data with a case study approach. The assessment results indicate that the patient experiences significant mood changes, from profound sadness to extreme euphoria, influenced by traumatic childhood experiences. Through analysis using Erikson's Psychosocial Development Theory, the study finds that unresolved psychosocial conflicts from the past can exacerbate the patient's condition. These findings highlight the importance of in-depth assessments to understand the severity and type of disorder in patients with Bipolar Affective Disorder, as well as the appropriate interventions needed to improve their quality of life.

Abstract

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one of the neurodevelopmental disorders that often occurs in children with a prevalence of 7.2% in children under 18 years of age according to a meta-analysis of 175 global studies in 2015. This high prevalence has not been balanced with the understanding of parents and teachers due to the lack of information, resulting in inappropriate treatment of children with ADHD. Psychoeducation plays an important role in providing accurate information about the symptoms, causes, and treatment of ADHD. We tried to explore the influence of psychoeducation on parents' and teachers' understanding of ADHD. This study used a systematic review method by collecting data from PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. The selected articles were articles published in the last 5 years with a focus on ADHD psychoeducation in children with a population of parents and teachers. Data analysis used the PRISMA model which produced 35 research articles that passed the systematic review. The results showed that psychoeducation can improve understanding, change misunderstandings, improve skills, and provide support for parents and teachers in dealing with children with ADHD. This study emphasizes the importance of structured psychoeducation for parents and teachers in efforts to disseminate information about ADHD.

Abstract

The position of the youngest child (ragil) in Javanese families provides a unique lens through which to examine the effects of birth order on psychological development within a traditional cultural context. Javanese culture presents a dual dynamic for the youngest child, who often receives heightened attention from family members while simultaneously facing significant expectations to care for aging parents in adulthood. This study explores the psychological dynamics and character development of the youngest child (ragil) in Javanese families, focusing on how family structure, parenting styles, and socio-economic conditions shape their development. Utilizing a qualitative approach, this research involves in-depth interviews with three youngest children aged 19-21 years, living with their parents and siblings. The findings reveal that the youngest child often receives special attention and support from parents, which contrasts with the experiences of older siblings. This preferential treatment, while beneficial in nurturing the youngest child, also comes with high expectations to fulfil familial responsibilities, especially as the family faces economic challenges. The study highlights how these children are encouraged to develop independence and resilience, balancing between the privileges and responsibilities they inherit. The impact of changing economic conditions and the burden of surpassing older siblings' achievements contribute to their character formation. The study's insights are contextualized within Javanese cultural norms and underscore the complex interplay between parental care, sibling dynamics, and individual development. The findings provide a deeper understanding of how cultural and familial factors influence the psychological growth of the youngest child, offering implications for parenting practices and family dynamics in similar cultural settings.

Abstract

In Islamic boarding schools, students are typically nurtured within a hierarchical environment, making self-awareness crucial for distinguishing between healthy obedience and harmful submission. Unequal power relationships between caregivers and students often become the root cause of sexual violence cases, thus preventive efforts must carefully consider these power dynamics. This study aims to examine the role of self-awareness as a protective factor for students, understand the influence of power relations in the occurrence of violence, and review preventive strategies that have been implemented in Islamic boarding school settings. This review analyzed 15 national and international articles published between 2016 and 2025, using quantitative, qualitative, and literature review approaches. The findings indicate that self-awareness plays a significant role in enhancing students’ ability to recognize the risks of sexual violance; however, its effectiveness is influenced by existing power imbalances that often silence victims. Effective preventive strategies identified include religiously grounded sex education, peer counselor training, parenting interventions, and the implementation of internal regulations within Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

This study explores the role of the Savy Amira Women’s Crisis Center (WCC), a non-governmental organization in Surabaya, in supporting women victims of domestic violence. Using qualitative methods, including documentary analysis, interviews, and field observations conducted during a six-month internship, the research reveals how WCC provides trauma-informed and victim-centered services that integrate psychological and legal support. The 2024 report indicates that most reported cases involved psychological, sexual, physical, and economic violence, primarily affecting women aged 25–40 who are economically dependent on perpetrators. WCC’s approach emphasizes confidentiality, emotional safety, and empowerment, tailoring recovery plans to individual needs. The institution also facilitates community outreach and peer support groups to foster resilience and reduce stigma. Findings highlight WCC’s effectiveness in building trust, ensuring confidentiality, and promoting social reintegration through accessible and responsive services. This study affirms the essential contribution of community-based institutions like WCC in advancing protection, empowerment, and systemic change for victims of domestic violence in Indonesia.

Abstract

The sandwich generation phenomenon is commonly observed in developing countries, including Indonesia. This generation is caught between the responsibilities of caring for aging parents and raising children, resulting in dual roles that are susceptible to role conflict. These role conflicts can affect not only personal life but also work and family domains. However, not all individuals experience the same negative impacts, as some are able to adapt positively through resilience. Resilience enables individuals to endure and thrive amid complex role demands. This literature review aims to explore the dynamics of resilience within the context of the sandwich generation and to identify the factors that contribute to enhancing resilience. The method used was a literature review, with a total of 10 articles included based on the screening process. The findings indicate that resilience in the sandwich generation is influenced by both internal and external factors. Moreover, resilience plays a critical role in promoting psychological well-being, improving quality of life, and strengthening individuals' adaptive capacity.

Abstract

This literature review investigates the association between self-control and engagement in risky sexual behaviors among university students. Risky sexual practices such as engaging in unprotected sex, having multiple sexual partners, and initiating sexual activity at an early age have been shown to correlate with a range of adverse consequences, including increased vulnerability to sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unintended pregnancies. Self-control, conceptualized as an individual's capacity to manage impulses, emotions, and behaviors in alignment with long-term objectives, serves as a crucial psychological buffer against such risk-taking behaviors. Drawing upon a synthesis of empirical findings and relevant theoretical models, this review highlights a recurring pattern: students with diminished self-control are more likely to partake in high-risk sexual behavior. Furthermore, the review considers the influence of situational and environmental variables such as peer dynamics, substance use, and digital media exposure as potential moderators. The evidence underscores the significance of cultivating self-regulation skills in promoting safer sexual behavior and advocates for the integration of self-control development within health education programs targeted at university populations. The method employed was a literature review, with a total of 10 articles included based on the screening process. The findings indicate that premarital sexual behavior among university students is influenced by various internal and external factors. Furthermore, self-control plays an important role in preventing students’ involvement in premarital sexual behavior.

Abstract

The transition phase of young Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) soldiers from education to active duty represents a critical period marked by physical, psychological, and social pressures. Within the framework of positive psychology, resilience is viewed as a psychological strength that enables individuals to endure and thrive amidst such stressors. This study presents a literature review of selected scholarly articles published between 2015 and 2024, examining the relationship between stress, resilience, and supporting psychological factors within military contexts. The main findings highlight the central role of resilience as a psychological safeguard, supported by mediating factors such as hardiness, adaptive coping strategies, and social support. This review also emphasizes that resilience is not merely an innate trait, but a capacity that can be cultivated through training and interventions grounded in positive psychology. The article offers important implications for the development of mental resilience enhancement programs for young soldiers, as well as theoretical contributions to the body of positive psychology literature in military settings.

Abstract

Self-efficacy is defined as an individual's belief in their ability to achieve a certain level of performance, which can influence various important aspects of their life. This article identifies and analyzes various cultural dimensions that affect the formation and manifestation of students' self-efficacy, as well as explores the variations in the effects of self-efficacy within educational contexts. The analysis was conducted on literature obtained from the Google Scholar database over the past 11 years (2015 - 2025). The final sample consisted of 20 articles that presented diverse findings on how cultural values influence individuals’ beliefs in their own capabilities in educational settings. The literature review results indicate that Hofstede’s cultural dimensions such as individualism versus collectivism, power distance, uncertainty avoidance, long-term versus short-term orientation, and indulgence versus restraint play significant roles in shaping how students assess and develop their self-efficacy. Furthermore, cross-cultural studies show that self-efficacy has varying effects on key educational outcomes, including academic achievement, student’s mental health, career exploration, motivation, and learning approaches. This study highlights the importance of intervention strategies that consider cultural values and practices to optimize the development of self-efficacy, which in turn contributes to both academic success and psychological well-being of students in educational contexts.
