Abstract

Detection of growth and development in children, especially those who are still at an early age, is very important to do to identify if there is a delay or developmental abnormality in children. Children who are identified as having developmental barriers or who are known as children with special needs certainly need a special form of handling or treatment that can help them develop optimally according to their abilities. The phenomenon that often occurs is that parents experience delays in knowing that their children are classified as children with special needs so the treatment given is quite late. For most people, it is not easy to know that a child is said to be or is categorized as a child with special needs. This is an obstacle and obstacle experienced by the TK Negeri Pembina Bangkalan Regency. So far, because there has been no detection or screening of child development, it has made it difficult for teachers to apply mentoring patterns to children. Therefore, it is necessary to have early detection or psychological examination to find out and ensure barriers to child development, so of course, children can also get appropriate treatment according to their needs. The aim is to help parents or guardians of children to find out the special needs of each child if they are identified as having developmental barriers. The hope is that this can help parents to be able to understand the limitations and also parents and guardians of students can provide a form of early handling of the limitations possessed by children.

Abstract

This study investigates the case of a 21-year-old female undergraduate student, referred to as TY, diagnosed with a Mild Depressive Episode (F32.0). The research employs a qualitative case study approach, utilizing semi-structured interviews, observations, and standardized measurement tools to explore the interplay of biological, psychological, and social factors contributing to TY's condition. Findings reveal a significant family history of mental disorders, including borderline personality disorder and bipolar disorder in her mother, which suggests a genetic predisposition to depression. Psychological stressors, such as familial conflicts and academic pressures, exacerbate her symptoms, characterized by persistent sadness, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. The results underscore the importance of the biopsychosocial model in understanding mild depression, emphasizing the need for integrated treatment plans that address genetic vulnerabilities, psychological dynamics, and social support systems. This case highlights the complexity of mental health disorders and the necessity for multifaceted approaches in clinical practice.

Abstract

This case study examines the psychological profile of a 26-year-old individual with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) enrolled in Galuh Handayani School, an inclusive educational institution in Surabaya that accommodates both children and adults with special needs. The subject, JRA, continues to receive education and therapy in this setting due to persistent challenges in adaptive functioning, communication, and academic skills. This unique context—an adult still participating in a school-based inclusive program—reflects the scarcity of structured services for adolescents and adults with ASD in East Java. Data were collected through qualitative methods, including interviews, observations, and document analysis, and ASD characteristics were described according to the DSM-5 criteria. Results indicate that the subject demonstrates limited verbal communication, repetitive behaviors, and difficulties in social interaction and emotional regulation, while showing strengths in visual-motor skills, discipline, and adherence to routines. Interventions, including behavioral and occupational therapies, have contributed to improvements in compliance and emotional regulation, though communication remains the primary challenge. The findings underscore the importance of individualized, interest-based, and collaborative interventions in inclusive educational settings to support the development and adaptive functioning of individuals with ASD across the lifespan.

Abstract

Abstract Paranoid schizophrenia is a psychotic disorder characterized by perceptual distortion, delusional thoughts, and deep intrapsychic tension. This condition often generates conflict between unconscious impulses and objective reality, leading to the emergence of defense mechanisms as a form of psychological adjustment. This study aims to analyze the dynamics of internal conflict and defense mechanisms in an adult diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia through a psychodynamic approach. A qualitative single case study was conducted on a 26-year-old male patient undergoing treatment at a psychiatric hospital in Surabaya. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, clinical observation, autoanamnesis, alloanamnesis, and documentation. The analysis applied Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic framework of personality structure (id, ego, superego) and defense mechanisms. The patient’s intrapsychic conflict arises from tension between personal desires and unmet social expectations, manifested in identity delusion and defensive attitudes toward others. The dominant defense mechanisms identified were projection, rationalization, and denial. The psychodynamic analysis provides a comprehensive understanding of the personality dynamics of individuals with paranoid schizophrenia and can serve as a foundation for clinical interventions that emphasize ego strengthening and reality orientation.

Abstract

Abstract Final year students face various complex academic demands, especially in the process of writing a thesis as a graduation requirement, which is also accompanied by a heavy course load, thus potentially causing stress. This stress not only impacts physical and psychological conditions, but also influences individual coping mechanisms, one of which is through changes in eating behavior known as emotional eating. Emotional eating is an eating behavior triggered by negative emotions, not by physiological hunger, so it is often used as a way to relieve emotional stress experienced by individuals. This study aims to examine the relationship between stress and emotional eating in final year students. The method used is a quantitative correlational method involving 152 respondents. Data analysis was performed using Pearson correlation through JASP.  The results showed a significant positive relationship between stress and emotional eating (r = 0.484; p < 0.001), which means that the higher the level of stress experienced by students, the higher the tendency for emotional eating that appears. . These findings indicate that academic stress is related to the use of emotional eating as an emotional coping strategy, so stress management and strengthening adaptive coping are important to prevent emotional eating behavior in final year students.
