Abstract

The deforestations and forest degradations in Indonesia have a global impact as they havebeen held responsible in increasing the amount of world carbon emissions. Thegovernment of Indonesia actively participates in many efforts combating the problem, oneof which materialiazed throughthe initiation of bilateral cooperation between Norway andIndonesia under the scheme of REDD+ (Reducing from Deforestations and ForestDegradations), where Norway plays role as donor and Indonesia becomes the recipientcountry. This particular cooperation could be well explained by utilizing the approach ofConstrutivism. Following the constructivists’ stand point, the Norwegian action in givingdonor to Indonesia isseen inseparable from Norway’s identity as a ‘green actor’ whoincludes environment as one of the primacies among her foreign policy priorities.

Abstract

The high number of casualties among women and children encouraged SFCG (Search For Common Ground) to participate in dealing with the crimes against humanity upon them due to Poso conflict 2009-2016. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of SFCG's role in handling the issue by using qualitative research methods. The role of SFCG as an INGOs (International Non-Government Organizations) could be explained by using Nelson's indicator to determine the role of International Organization in conflict and peace which is also supported by Galtung's conflict resolution theory of peacebuilding. The results of this study found that SFCG's role in dealing with the crimes of humanity on women and children victims of Poso conflict during 2009-2016 was considered effective and should be an alternative againts similar social issues to involving internal and external organizations from various institutions.

Abstract

After 9/11, the U.S. have been so adamant on eradicating terrorism all over the world, and adopted a foreign policy that focuses on counterterrorism named „war on terror‟. The war on terror have been targeting terrorist groups like al-Qaeda, and most recently, its foremost focus is on ISIL. While the U.S. promised to erase all terrorism in the world, the policy still has some imbalance towards whom it applies to. Towards ISIL, the U.S. and its coalition have made subsequent progress on their counterterrorism efforts while towards other groups, such as Boko Haram, the policy application has been stagnant with not much progress. This thesis is a qualitative research using Mill‟s Method of comparative study to see the differences of each policy and will explore and analyze the reasons why the counterterrorism effort of the U.S. is unequal, focusing on its differences of counterterrorism policy towards ISIL and Boko Haram using Analytical Eclecticism as a tool. Furthermore, this thesis will also incorporate defensive realism and liberal internationalism to analyze the possible reasons on why U.S.‟s counterterrorism policy has a difference between whom it applies to. The result of this study shows that U.S. have a political interest in Syria including its rivalry with Russia and its needs to contain Russia‟s power in the Middle East and its interest to topple Assad from the Syrian government.

Abstract

The flow of asylum seekers caused by the many conflicts that arose in theMiddle East and around Asia since about 2001 led Australia to start behavingantipathy to them. Those asylum seekers usually called boat people. Then, itbecomes a reason for Australia to apply restrictive asylum policies. One of thepolicy is called 'turn back the boats' namely by bringing back the boat peoplewho indicated from Indonesia back to Indonesia. This causes asylum seekersexploded in Indonesia region and impacted negative causes. Indonesia wasforced to accept these asylum seekers even though it is detrimental and was notan obligation for Indonesia. This paper intends to analyze the dilemma ofIndonesia to address the Australian policy and asylum-seekers issue usingrationalist and constructivist theory. On the one hand, Indonesia in accordancewith the rationalist view, refuse the asylums and Australia’s policy because ofthe cost-benefit considerations and it is not the obligation for Indonesia. However, on the other hand, Indonesia recessive condition forced to accept theboat people and it is consistent with the constructivist view. But apparently, constructivist still has not succeeded explaining this somehow-unique caseconsidering that Indonesia has no commitment in conducting the reception ofthe asylum seekers.
