Abstract

Hypertension remains a major global health challenge, with pharmacological treatment as the mainstay of management. However, modifiable behavioural and chronobiological factors such as chrononutrition, emotional eating, and self-control are increasingly recognised as important contributors to blood pressure regulation. Despite this recognition, these three factors have not been examined together in hypertensive populations. Understanding their combined relationships is important to support the development of more comprehensive behavioural interventions for hypertension management. Therefore, this study aimed to simultaneously examine the relationships between chrononutrition, emotional eating, and self-control with blood pressure among hypertensive patients attending primary health centres in Banjarsari District, Surakarta, Indonesia. Specifically, the study sought to analyze the associations of chrononutrition, emotional eating, and self-control with blood pressure in this population. This cross-sectional study evaluated how these three factors relate to blood pressure among hypertensive patients attending six community health centres (Puskesmas) in Banjarsari District, Surakarta, Indonesia. Using proportional random sampling, 115 participants were enrolled. Chrononutrition, emotional eating, and self-control were assessed using the Chrononutrition Questionnaire, the Emotional Eater Questionnaire, and a modified Brief Self-Control Scale, respectively. All three instruments had been tested and demonstrated good to excellent validity and reliability, with Cronbach’s alpha values ranging from 0.867 to 0.928. Blood pressure was measured using a validated digital sphygmomanometer following the 2025 American Heart Association standards. Ordinal logistic regression adjusted for age and sex showed that poor chrononutrition (AOR = 4.424), emotional eating (AOR up to 15.503), and low self-control (AOR = 20.752) were each independently associated with higher blood pressure categories, with self-control being the strongest predictor. These findings suggest that integrating behavioural assessments into primary hypertension care is warranted.

Abstract

Low Birth Weight (LBW) is a public health indicator that reflects the maternal nutritional status, pregnancy health, and the quality of maternal health services. LBW increases the risk of infant death, neonatal morbidity, growth disorders, and chronic diseases later in life. In the city of Depok, the prevalence of LBW has increased over the past three years despite relatively good access to services, indicating complex determining factors. This study aims to analyze the determinant factors of LBW incidence. The research used a mixed methods design, with the quantitative phase conducted using a casecontrol design on mothers who gave birth to low birth weight babies and babies with normal birth weight. Quantitative data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using logistic regression, quantitative data collection was a questionnaire that had undergone validity and reliability testing, with a Cronbach’s Alpha value of 0.946.. The qualitative phase was conducted using Convergent Parallel through in-depth interviews with mothers, families, and healthcare workers. Qualitative analysis used Braun & Clarke's thematic analysis technique.  Quantitative findings showed that low maternal education, low economic status, at-risk maternal age, high parity, short birth spacing, inadequate weight gain, suboptimal antenatal visits, and pregnancy-related medical risks were significantly associated with LBW (p < 0.05). Maternal education was identified as the most dominant factor. Qualitative results revealed that low health literacy, limited family support, and barriers to accessing information contributed to LBW incidence. Low birth weight in infants is influenced by the interaction of maternal, socioeconomic, and environmental factors.

Abstract

Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) often requires fluid restriction, which can cause patients to experience excessive thirst and discomfort. This article describes combining ice-sucking therapy with health education delivered via a booklet to address thirst in CHF patients on fluid restriction. This case report describes a patient with congestive heart failure (CHF) undergoing fluid restriction. The intervention consisted of ice-sucking therapy for 5–10 minutes over three consecutive days, accompanied by health education using a booklet. Thirst was assessed before and after the intervention using a 0–10 Visual Analog Scale (VAS), where higher scores indicated greater thirst intensity. Changes in thirst levels were evaluated descriptively by comparing pre- and post-intervention VAS scores. The VAS score decreased from 8 to 3 after three days of the intervention. The patient also reported reduced thirst, greater comfort during fluid restriction, and moister lip mucosa. The application of ice-sucking therapy, combined with health education via a booklet, reduced thirst levels among CHF patients undergoing fluid restriction. This evidence suggests that combining these two interventions may help alleviate thirst symptoms associated with fluid restriction.

Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is one of the most common non-communicable diseases and remains a major global health challenge. This chronic metabolic disorder develops progressively and requires lifelong treatment and self-management. According to the World Health Organization (WHO, 2023), the global prevalence of diabetes continues to increase, affecting millions of people worldwide and contributing substantially to morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. Beyond its physical complications, T2DM can negatively affect patients' psychological well-being, social functioning, and overall quality of life. Improving the quality of life of patients with T2DM has therefore become an important objective of diabetes management. In addition to pharmacological treatment, complementary therapies such as healing touch and dzikir have gained attention for their potential benefits in enhancing physical comfort, reducing stress, promoting relaxation, and improving spiritual well-being. These interventions may contribute to better adaptation to chronic illness and ultimately improve patients' quality of life. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the effect of healing touch and dzikir therapy on the quality of life of patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Specifically, the study sought to identify patients' quality of life before and after receiving healing touch and dzikir therapy and to compare changes in quality of life between the intervention group and the control group. This research was conducted on DM patients at Kayen Health Center, Kayen District, Pati Regency. This study uses a quantitative approach. The quantitative approach is used to see the causal relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable. Based on its level of explanation, this study is an associative type of research with a causal relationship pattern. The study involved 44 respondents divided into an intervention group (n=22) and a control group (n=22) with relatively homogeneous characteristics. The average quality of life score in the intervention group increased from 68.36 to 93.36 (a difference of 25.00 points), while in the control group it increased from 68.36 to 69.41 (a difference of 1.05 points). The paired t-test results showed a significant increase in the intervention group (p<0.001), while in the control group it was not significant (p=0.489). Comparison between the two groups also showed a significant difference (p<0.001), indicating that healing touch and dhikr therapy are effective in improving the quality of life of patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Healing touch therapy and dhikr have been proven effective in improving the quality of life of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients. The average quality of life score in the intervention group increased from 68.36 to 93.36, while the control group did not show any significant improvement. Statistical test results indicated a significant effect of healing touch therapy and dhikr on the quality of life of Diabetes Mellitus patients. 2 (p<0,001). Abstract

Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder of global concern because of its high prevalence. Family support is essential in the care of patients with schizophrenia, especially in facilitating adaptive coping with psychological stress. Study employed a quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. Data were collected using the MSPSS and the Brief COPE questionnaires. The collected data were subsequently analyzed using the SPSS. The majority of respondents were male (55.7%), aged 46–55 years (29.6%), self-employed (49.6%), married (92.2%), and were the patients’ parents (35.7%). Bivariate analysis using the Spearman Rank correlation test revealed a significant association between social support and family coping (p < 0.05; r = 0.631), indicating a strong correlation. The higher the level of social support received by the family, the more adaptive the coping mechanisms used in caring for patients with schizophrenia, which may contribute to improved patient quality of life.

Abstract

Patient loyalty is a strategic indicator for hospitals, particularly in mental health services where continuity of care is essential. This study analyzed the effect of brand image and service quality on outpatient loyalty mediated by patient satisfaction at RSJD Atma Husada Mahakam, a type A psychiatric referral hospital in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. An explanatory quantitative survey with a cross-sectional design was conducted among 200 outpatients selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using a structured Likert-scale questionnaire measuring brand image, service quality, patient satisfaction, and patient loyalty. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS. The measurement model met validity and reliability criteria, with AVE values ranging from 0.546 to 0.649 and composite reliability values ranging from 0.902 to 0.924. The structural model showed that brand image positively affected patient satisfaction (beta = 0.318; t = 3.934; p < 0.001) and loyalty (beta = 0.210; t = 2.920; p = 0.004). Service quality positively affected satisfaction (beta = 0.515; t = 7.648; p < 0.001) and loyalty (beta = 0.273; t = 4.042; p < 0.001). Patient satisfaction also had a positive effect on loyalty (beta = 0.408; t = 4.794; p < 0.001). Indirect effect testing confirmed that satisfaction significantly mediated the influence of brand image (beta = 0.130; t = 2.715; p = 0.003) and service quality (beta = 0.210; t = 4.113; p < 0.001) on loyalty. The findings indicate that strengthening service quality, maintaining a positive hospital image, and systematically managing patient satisfaction are central strategies for building outpatient loyalty in psychiatric hospital services.

Abstract

Fatigue is one of the most common clinical symptoms experienced by patients with chronic diseases and significantly affects their quality of life. The high prevalence of fatigue across various chronic conditions indicates that it is a common, widespread, and complex symptom. However, comparative studies across different chronic diseases remain limited. In addition, the main risk factors and their variations among chronic conditions have not been comprehensively explored. This study aimed to identify differences in the incidence and contributing factors of fatigue among patients with various types of chronic diseases. Methods: This study employed a quantitative cross-sectional design. A total of 128 respondents were recruited using stratified random sampling. The instruments used included the Modified Fatigue Impact Scale (MFIS), the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D), and the Self-Care Symptom Management Scale. The MFIS has demonstrated excellent internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.93), while the CES-D has shown good validity and reliability with Cronbach's α ranging from 0.85 to 0.90 across various populations. The Self-Care Symptom Management Scale also demonstrated satisfactory psychometric properties, with a Cronbach's α of 0.84. Statistical analyses consisted of univariate descriptive analysis and bivariate analysis, including Chi-square tests for categorical variables and logistic regression for categorical dependent variables.Statistical analyses consisted of univariate descriptive analysis and bivariate analysis, including Chi-square tests for categorical variables and logistic regression for categorical dependent variables. Of the 128 respondents, the majority experienced severe fatigue, particularly those with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. There was no significant difference in fatigue levels among the five types of chronic diseases (p = 0.976). Severe fatigue was significantly associated with education (p < 0.001), employment status (p < 0.001), income (p < 0.001), self-care practice (p < 0.001), and depression (p = 0.011), but was not associated with age, sex, duration of illness, or comorbidity.Fatigue should be routinely assessed and managed in patients with chronic diseases regardless of disease type, with a focus on improving self-care practices, early detection of depression, and consideration of educational level, employment status, and income to enhance patients’ quality of life.

Abstract

Stunting is a condition where a child experiences growth disorders, which results in the child's height not being appropriate for his age as a result of chronic nutritional problems, namely a lack of adequate nutritional intake over a long period of time. Objective to analyze the relationship between maternal risk factors and the incidence of stunting among toddlers in the Karawaci  Health Center working area  This research design uses an observational analytical quantitative research type with a case control design. The case samples in this study were toddlers aged 24-59 months who experienced stunting with a TB/U toddler Z score < -2 SD and the data was recorded at the Karawaci  Health Center in 2023 as many as 123 toddlers, and a control sample of 123 toddlers. Data were analyzed using the chi square statistical test. Results of bivariate analysis Overall, of the 11 variables carried out in the research, 5 of them showed a relationship between these variables and the incidence of stunting in toddlers, including a relationship between parity, of stunting. in toddlers aged 24-59 months who are in the working area of the Karawaci  Health Center. There is no relationship between the nutritional status of pregnant women, with the incidence of stunting in toddlers aged 24-59 months in the working area of the Karawaci  Health Center. And the factor that poses the greatest risk for stunting is the age of the mother at risk during pregnancy, where stunting is 3.42 times more likely to occur than mothers of normal age during pregnancy. There is a relationship between the number of parities, maternal age at pregnancy, history of anemia during pregnancy, birth interval and maternal education level with the incidence of stunting.
