Abstract

The teaching of Islamic education in elementary school in Indonesia has not been widely explored by researchers, while this subject is particularly important in developing students’ character. This study aimed to describe the teaching of Islamic Education in elementary school in Malang, particularly in terms of the use of instructional media. Qualitative method with case study observational design and multi-site research design was chosen to meet the aim, including the use of structured-interview and observation as means of data collection. By using qualitative data analysis, it was found that (1) there were diverse teaching methods used by teachers, (2) teachers used various instructional media, both conventional and modern, (3) the quantity and quality of supporting facilities of the PAI lesson were considered sufficient, and (4) there were some internal as well as external factors that either supported or hampered the teaching of Islamic Education in elementary school.

Abstract

This study portrayed the enactment of Life-Based Learning (LBL) in quantitative research methodology course among Master’s students in biology education. Literature study and action research were employed to capture data. The literature study attempted to unveil how LBL was performed. Furthermore, the action research was in the form of Lesson Study (LS) to carry out the course outline. Practically, characteristics of LBL were performed using authentic materials. These were in the forms of filling out questionnaire of first semester intake, doing peer L, developing mind/concept mapping, assessing peers’ mind/concept mapping, assessing peer portfolio, writing learning journal, doing critical analysis on journal articles, developing research proposal, assessing peers’ critical analysis and performance, uploading files of mind/concept mapping, and presenting critical analysis works. From the action research lens, different-class students preferred varied strategies for similar learning materials and they favored such processes.

Abstract

This research aims at improving processing skills and learning outcome of students on stoichiometry concept. First stage was instructional instrument development, the second stage was trials on X graders of Senior High School using One Group Pre-test and Post-test Design. The results of this research showed that (1) the developed instructional instrument is good and reliable, (2) the lesson plan was well-accomplished, (3) students activity were positive during the learning, (4) students response were positive, (5) the cognitive learning iutcomes of product and process have met minimum criteria of mastery learning, (6) the improvement of processing skill is in the category of high gain. To sum up, the developed instructional instrument could improve students processing skill and learning outcomes.

Abstract

An attempt to have a scientific course for the public from higher education institutions was done by preparing a good set of contents for one particular topic of interest, which is also a science topic. Coffee chemistry is the topic chosen and some content was developed, including videos, audio-embedded social media, infographics and motion graphics packed with 8 topics. The choice of coffee amongst many sciences’ topic is considered strategic in bringing science to all audiences of society. Science content must explain nature as the object in wholistic concepts, starting from smaller parts of each division, including chemistry. The microlearning approach is employed in the MOOC platform from The State University of Malang, Indonesia. This also is one of the three main tasks of higher education institutions which can be delivered in the MOOC system.

Abstract

Learning motivation is students’ willingness to study that comes from within. The objective of this research was to find out Senior High School students’ learning motivation level for physics subject. The subjects of this research were 60 students from Science Class of Senior High School 5 Surakarta who were randomly selected. A questionnaire was used as an instrument to measure students’ learning motivation. The result showed that students’ learning motivation in physics subject was categorized as medium level with an average score of 20.42. The percentage for each aspect was as follows: attention (24.33%), relevance (24.98%), confidence (24.33%), and satisfaction (25.71%).

Abstract

This study examines the effect of learning motivation of high achieving students at Universitas Negeri Malang. Learning motivation has an important role in the lecture process. Learning motivation is an impetus in a conscious effort to make changes in cognitive, affective and psychomotor aspects. So it takes students who are able to increase their motivation for achievement in order to be an example for other students. Therefore researchers are interested in studying research related to learning motivation and ways of learning from outstanding students. The object of research studied was outstanding students at Universitas Negeri Malang. The research method used is quantitative data obtained through the distribution of questionnaires in the Google form. The results of this study reveal the motivation to learn and how to learn from each respondent who is an outstanding student at Universitas Negeri Malang. The results of the research are expected to be a reference in increasing learning motivation for other students. The results of the research are expected to be a reference in increasing learning motivation for other students. It seen by explained about the desires of respondents in learning. From the picture, it is explained that 75 percent of respondents want to learn because they are trying to find experience, 13 percent of respondents say they want to learn because they are trying to find a new channel (friends) with the same vision, 4 percent say the first and third choice, 4 percent say they have a character who is hungry for learning and wants learn whenever and wherever and 4 percent say they want to learn

Abstract

Waste management by composting is an alternative way that is considered most appropriate to deal with the problems of wet domestic waste. The purpose of this study was to develop a user guide for the experiment of composting wet domestic waste for the subject Environmental Change/Climate and Waste Recycling for 10th grade SMA/MA and to evaluate the effects of the use of rotten pineapple extract as the starter with the concentrations of 0%, 25%, 50 %, and 75% in the length of time of composting process. MAN 3 Malang was one of the schools in the city of Malang that had implemented Curriculum 2013, which contained the particular topic for the 10th grade. The results of the validation from materials experts, media specialists, and field experts resulted in the score of 94%, 93%, 99% respectively, and the test results from the students obtained the percentage of 91%. Based on the validation results it was concluded that the teaching materials were suitable as an alternative instructional materials in the teaching of Biology for class X IPA. The results of experimental studies indicated that the starter from the rotten pineapple extract in concentrations 75% was the most effective in speeding up the composting process.

Abstract

The background of this research is the absence of an assessment of communication and collaboration skills of students in overall chemistry learning when learning shifts from home to face-to-face limited during the pandemic. This study aims to show the value of the working skills of high school students in learning chemistry in Pekanbaru. The research subjects involved were 379 students from high school in Pekanbaru. This research is survey research that uses a quantitative descriptive approach. Data collection methods used are questionnaires and interviews. The instruments used are self-assessment, peer assessment, and interview guidelines. The data analysis technique used quantitative analysis. The results showed that the average value of working skills (communication and collaboration) in chemistry learning in Pekanbaru had the same value. This value is 62% which is classified as a strong category. The implications of this research are expected to be useful as teacher quality in core competencies KI-2 and KI-4 in chemistry learning during the pandemic. In addition, this research needs to be carried out to identify students' communication and collaboration skills so that they can be used as reflective material for teachers to design learning that directs students to have communication and collaboration skills that are very much needed in today's 21st century

Abstract

This study aims to describe the teacher's understanding and how teacher’s role in the implementation of the 2013 curriculum. This research uses a descriptive qualitative research design with case study. Research data supported by research tools in the form of audio-visual and field notes. The informants are the headmaster, the vice minister of curriculum, teachers, and students who carry out learning using the 2013 curriculum at SMK 1 Kertosono. Based on the results of the analysis, it is known that the understanding of teachers is not so fully understood the 2013 curriculum as a whole. The role of teacher for implementation of the 2013 curriculum conducted by teachers including: (1) Planning, teachers in making learning plans based on the results of teacher group discussions conducted between teacher peers and the internet; (2) Implementation, the implementation of learning conducted by the teacher includes three activities, namely the introduction, main, and closing activities; and (3) Assessments, assessments made by teachers are authentic assessments, which include; assessment of attitudes, knowledge and skills.

Abstract

Corona Virus Disease pandemic (Covid-19) has been galvanizing the world since 2020 until now. One of the impacts on the learning system in schools, for active children will experience obstacles in learning. Researchers used phenomenology approaches to several children at TPQ Baitul Yamin Mosque to understand their learning mentally. The results showed that the existence of pandemics still make them happy by being close to parents, can still overflow expressions through daily activities, and able to increase the intensity of worship through congregational prayers in mosques.
