Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of auxin growth regulators, IAA, NAA, and IBA, on the growth of robusta and arabica coffee cuttings in floral foam media. This research was conducted at Jember State Polytechnic and employed a Randomized Group Design (RBD) with two treatment factors. The first factor is three types of Auxin (IAA, NAA, IBA) and the second factor is arabica and robusta coffee types. So there were six treatment combinations and each was repeated five times. This study was conducted for 3 months with the observation parameters were percentage of cuttings survive and growing shoots, shoot emergence time, shoot and leaf length. Data results were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's HSD test at 5% level. Based on the results of the data obtained, it is known that the administration of IBA has the best effect on the parameters of shoot emergence time, shoot length, and leaf length of all types of auxin growth regulator treatments. However, in this study, cuttings grown from several types of auxin applied did not show root formation. The percentage of live cuttings for the treatment of coffee types shows Arabica coffee which is the type of coffee that has the best growth.

Abstract

Limited P availability in the soil is caused by the low solubility and absorption of P components, particularly in soils with low organic matter content. The purpose of this study is to investigate how phosphate fertilizer and cow dung fertilizer affect the yields of edamame crops. Between July and October of 2024, this study was carried out in Kaliurang Village, Jember, which is 146 meters above sea level and has an average temperature of 24 to 32 degrees Celsius (8o09'29.2"S 113o44'21.0"E). A Factorial RAK with two factors and three replications was used to design this experiment. There were three levels of phosphate fertilizer treatments: 1.7 g/plant, 2 g/plant, and 2.3 g/plant. Three levels of cow dung fertilizer treatment are available: 2 kg/plot, 4 kg/plot, and 6 kg/plot. Variables of observation, namely 2 kg/plot, 4 kg/plot, and 6 kg/plot. Observation variables included plant height, number of fertile nodes, number of pods per sample, pod weight per sample, and dry biomass weight. The results showed that the treatment interaction of 2,3 g phosphate fertilizer/plant and 6 kg cow dung fertilizer/plot had a significantly different effect in the dry biomass weight variable per sample (18,13 g). This is suspected to increase the availability of P in the root media, as the absorption of P by organic fertilizers also increases. Treatment of 2,3 g/plant of phosphate fertilizer had a significantly different effect on pod weight per sample (50,70 g). Abstract

Seedlings produced through tissue culture with an imbalanced ratio of growth regulators often exhibit poor quality and uneven growth. The success of shoot multiplication in granola potato can be improved by optimizing the ratio of growth regulators, particularly auxins and cytokinins. This study aimed to determine the optimal concentrations of Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and kinetin for shoot multiplication of granola potato. The experiment was conducted from June to October 2024 at the Tissue Culture Laboratory of Jember State Polytechnic. A Completely Randomized Factorial Design (RALF) was used, consisting of two factors and three replications. The first factor was IAA concentration, comprising 0.4 mg L⁻¹, 0.7 mg L⁻¹, and 1.0 mg L⁻¹. The second factor was kinetin concentration, consisting of 0.5 mg L⁻¹, 1.0 mg L⁻¹, and 1.5 mg L⁻¹. The results showed a significant interaction between 0.4 mg L⁻¹ IAA and 0.5 mg L⁻¹ kinetin in accelerating callus emergence, with the earliest appearance observed at 6.33 days. This indicates that a balanced ratio of auxin and cytokinin can promote faster callus development. The combination of 0.7 mg L⁻¹ IAA and 1.0 mg L⁻¹ kinetin resulted in the earliest shoot emergence at 5.67 days. This is likely because IAA promotes cell elongation, while kinetin stimulates cell division. Treatment with 1.0 mg L⁻¹ IAA showed a highly significant effect on the number of segments (24.89) and the number of roots (29.22). Meanwhile, treatment with 0.7 mg L⁻¹ IAA significantly increased root length (5.91 cm). These results suggest that IAA plays a vital role in promoting cell elongation and enhancing cell wall plasticity, enabling cells to expand and elongate more effectively.

Abstract

The spice industry, especially the production of vanilla (Vanilla planifolia), plays an important role in Indonesia's agricultural economy. However, the complexity of the vanilla cultivation and post-harvest process has the potential to create significant ecological stress. This study aims to evaluate the environmental impact of vanilla production in Indonesia using the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approach based on ISO 14040/14044 standards and the ReCiPe 2016 method. The functional unit used is one kilogram of dry vanilla, ready for consumption, with a cradle-to-gate system limit. Data was collected from a combination of field surveys, farmer interviews, and Ecoinvent's secondary database. The results of the analysis show that the cultivation stage contributes the greatest to Global Warming Potential, eutrophication, and acidification, mainly due to the use of nitrogen fertilizers and conventional irrigation systems. The biomass combustion-based post-harvest drying process also contributes to SO₂ and NOₓ emissions. The variability between production areas (Papua, Bali, and East Java) indicates the importance of a local context-based approach in mitigation strategies. This study recommends the adoption of low-emission drying technologies, the use of organic fertilizers, and efficient irrigation as technical steps, as well as the need to integrate LCA in national agricultural policies. This study confirms the strategic role of LCA not only as an evaluative tool but also as the foundation of the sustainability policy of the spice sector in Indonesia.

Abstract

The beef cattle livestock sector plays a strategic role in national animal protein supply, but faces challenges in optimizing maintenance management. This study aims to analyze the feeder cattle fattening maintenance management system in PT. Juang Jaya Abdi Alam, South Lampung Regency, focusing on managing cattle arrival, feeding, barn sanitation, livestock health and body weight gain. The research method uses a case study with a qualitative descriptive approach through direct observation and interviews. The results show that PT. Juang Jaya Abdi Alam implements an integrated and standardized management system. Cattle arrival management is conducted systematically with selection, vaccination, and adaptation procedures that consider animal welfare. Feed management uses a composition of 70% forage and 30% concentrate with scheduled feeding 3 times a day using mixer technology. The barn sanitation is carried out every 5-7 days with 50-70 kg of bedding per head and a natural ventilation system. Health management implements periodic vaccination programs, daily monitoring, and quarantine systems. Weight measurement is performed by arrival grading and grading 40 days later with ear tag identification. Implementing this integrated management effectively supports feeder cattle fattening productivity and can serve as a model to improve the efficiency of the beef cattle farming business.

Abstract

Botanical insecticide from Brotowali (Tinospora crispa) stems offers an alternative pest control method that is safer for non-target organisms. This study aimed to identify the bioactive compounds of Brotowali stems, determine LC₉₅ toxicity, and evaluate its effects on arthropod diversity and rice yield. Research was conducted at the Bioscience and TPB Laboratories of Politeknik Negeri Jember and in rice fields at Balung Lor Village, Jember. Arthropods were collected using sweep nets, sticky traps, yellow pan traps, and pitfall traps. Field trials compared plots treated with either fipronil or Brotowali bioinsecticide. GC-MS analysis revealed dominant compounds: hexadecanoic acid (17.40%), oleic acid (16.25%), and acetic acid (11.82%). LC₉₅ toxicity was 40.178%. Arthropod observations recorded 2,090 individuals from 32 species in the Brotowali plot, versus 872 individuals from 27 species in the fipronil plot. Both treatments showed moderate diversity (H), no species dominance (C), moderate richness (R), even distribution (E), and high similarity (91.53%). Rice yield differed significantly (Mann-Whitney test), Overall, Brotowali stem bioinsecticide maintained arthropod diversity and improved rice yield, showing potential as an eco-friendly pest control strategy.

Abstract

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) play an important role as a major food source to meet the needs of densely populated communities. The use of superior varieties and planting at the right distance can significantly increase production, thereby supporting optimal growth and maximum yields. This study was conducted from July to October 2023. This research was arranged in a factorial randomized block design (RBD), involving two factors: the first factor included dense planting distances, namely 40 cm × 25 cm × 25 cm, 30 cm × 25 cm × 25 cm, and 20 cm × 25 cm × 25 cm; while the second factor was rice varieties, namely Ciherang and Situbagendit. The analysis of the results showed that the interaction between planting distance and variety did not have a significant effect on the various parameters measured. However, the 30 cm × 25 cm × 25 cm planting distance produced superior performance in most growth and production indicators, such as plant height reaching 92.31 cm, number of tillers 22.64, number of panicles 16.72, and grain weight per plot 413.50 g. The Situbagendit variety also stood out with optimal results compared to Ciherang, as seen in plant height of 94.95 cm, dry weight of 67.88 g, and weight of 1,000 grains of 278.46 g. The absence of significant interaction indicates that the effect of planting distance is more due to competition between individual plants, while variety differences are more dependent on genetic characteristics. Therefore, the combination of a 30 cm × 25 cm × 25 cm planting distance with the Situbagendit variety is recommended as the optimal choice for increasing rice plant productivity. Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of manure and potassium fertilizer application on the growth and yield of sweet corn (Zea mays saccharata). The experiment was conducted in Ringinanom Village, Nganjuk Regency, from June to August 2025 using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with two factors: manure dosage (0, 4, 8, and 12 kg/plot) and potassium fertilizer dosage (0, 3, 5, and 6 g/plant). The results showed that both manure and potassium fertilizers significantly affected plant growth and yield. For plant height, manure at 4–8 kg/plot resulted in the best growth up to the late vegetative stage (44 days after planting). The highest number of leaves was obtained from the combination of 12 kg/plot manure and 5 g/plant potassium fertilizer. At the generative stage, potassium at 5 g/plant produced the longest ear (20.33 cm) and the largest ear diameter (4.91 cm). These findings indicate that combining organic manure with potassium fertilizer enhances nutrient uptake efficiency, photosynthetic activity, and generative organ formation. Agronomically, the integration of organic and inorganic fertilizers effectively improves soil fertility and optimizes sweet corn productivity. Abstract

Edamame (Glycine max L. Merr.) is a horticultural commodity with high potential as a protein-rich functional food, in line with the increasing demand from both domestic and export markets. However, edamame productivity in Indonesia continues to face serious constraints due to anthracnose disease caused by Colletotrichum sp. This pathogen can infect nearly all parts of the plant and significantly reduce both yield quality and quantity. Conventional control strategies relying on synthetic fungicides have raised various negative impacts; therefore, alternative approaches that are environmentally friendly and sustainable are urgently required. This study aimed to isolate endophytic bacteria from edamame plant tissues and to screen their antagonistic activity against Colletotrichum sp. Endophytic bacteria were isolated from the roots, stems, and leaves of edamame, followed by antagonistic assays using the dual culture method. The results revealed several endophytic bacterial isolates with varying abilities to inhibit the growth of Colletotrichum sp. Selected isolates exhibited high inhibition percentages and did not induce hypersensitive reactions in tobacco assay, indicating their potential to be further developed as biological control agents in edamame disease management systems.

Abstract

Shallots (Allium ascalonicum) are an important horticultural commodity that plays a role in food sustainability and strengthening the agricultural economy. Nganjuk Regency is one of the main production centers in East Java, but production levels show significant differences between subdistricts. This study aims to analyze the differences in shallot production in five subdistricts in Nganjuk Regency using secondary data from BPS for 2020–2024. The analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential approaches, including normality tests, homogeneity tests, One-Way ANOVA, and Tukey HSD follow-up tests. The results show significant differences in production between subdistricts with an F value of 47.2 and significance < 0.001. Rejoso Subdistrict has the highest and most stable production level, followed by Gondang and Bagor Subdistricts as medium-productivity areas, while Sukomoro and Wilangan are at low productivity levels. These differences were influenced by agronomic conditions, planting area, availability of irrigation, and the application of cultivation technology. These results indicate the importance of production improvement strategies in low productivity areas through improvements in agricultural infrastructure and increased farmer capacity.
