Abstract

Pests make it hard to get more soybeans. This study aims to see if a vegetable insecticide (Bidens pilosa) can control aphids (Aphis glycines) using organic products. This research was done from November 2022 to February 2023 at the Jember State Polytechnic Campus. This study used a 5-treatment, 4-replication, non-factorial completely randomized design with 20 experimental units. The treatments were different levels of Ajeran weed leaf juice: 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. Non-parametric data analysis using the Shapiro-Wilk test. Levene test for data homogeneity. Further tests used the Independent Sample T-Test or Mann-Whitney non-parametric test. The 20% Ajeran concentration killed 84% of the aphids. Ajan vegetable insecticide is 84% effective. Aphid infestation on soybean plants varies. At the last stage of application, it has the same value of 0.11. Treating vegetables with insecticides has better results than using chemical pesticides.

Abstract

Lemon is one of commercial citrus produced by the teaching factory of Kebun Inovasi Politeknik Negeri Jember. However, the specific information related to the product from the teaching factory has not yet been iniated, including for fresh lemon fruit product. Therefore, this research aims to develop the product description for lemon fruit at the teaching factory through morphological charactization. The research was conducted using interview and direct observation method of morphological characters of lemon fruit with purposive sampling for 5 fruits for each type of lemon. Based on this research, there are 2 types of commercial lemons cultivated in the Kebun Inovasi Polije, namely California lemons and seedless lemons with the most striking differences in morphological characteristics between the two are the character of the base and apex shape of the fruit, the color of the fruit flesh, and the presence of seed. The data can be used as the supporting material for the marketing strategy of lemon at the teaching factory of Kebun Inovasi Politeknik Negeri Jember.

Abstract

The Teaching Factory "Smart Green House" of the Politeknik Negeri Jember (Tefa SGH) has the challenge of improving quality. If this is not handled immediately, it will threaten the level of implementation of quality system clauses. Efforts to overcome the above challenges must be carried out holistically by analyzing the implementation of quality system clauses in the production process. The problem in this study is what quality system clauses have been implemented, what improvement efforts need to be made and what clauses are the top priorities. The purpose of this research is to produce innovations in quality system clauses. The research method used to analyze the level of application is Johnson's method. The results of the study show that Tefa SGH has 2 out of 7 clauses in the strong category, namely the Planning and Improvement clauses. Tefa SGH's readiness level in the implementation of the ISO 9001:2015 is included in the Fair category, this means that some of the clauses of the TEFA system are by following the ISO 9000 standard. The Performance Evaluation Clause is a clause that does not follow the standard. The main priority of the clause that needs to be implemented first is the Improvement clause.

Abstract

Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is one of the plants that use its tubers and is broadly developed. In vitro spread of potato plants enjoys a few benefits, for example, quick creation, the capacity to deliver huge amounts, not occasional, and the seeds created are sans microorganisms. One work to further develop seed quality in vitro is by adding development controllers. Subsequently, it is important to explore the fitting convergence of Days After Planting for potato plant development. This study aims to analyze the Plant Growth Regulator interaction of Benzyl Amino Purine and Indole Acetic Acid administration on the growth and development of red potato shoots (Solanum tuberosum L.) in vitro. This study uses the factorial Complete Random Design (CRD) method. The parameters observed were bud emergence time (DAP), bud height, and number of leaves. The data obtained was analyzed using ANOVA followed by a 5% DMRT test and if there is a real difference, it is tested using the 1% level. The results showed that the average time for the fastest sprouting in the B1I3 treatment was 5.00 DAP. The average number of shoots was highest in the B2I2 treatment, which was 4.93 cm. The highest number of leaves produced by B3I2 treatment was 23.00 leaves. The best combination of PGR on the growth and development of red potato shoots was found in the B1I3 treatment (0.5 mg/L BAP and 0.3 mg/L IAA).

Abstract

An important factor in the growth and increase in the brix value of sugarcane is the fulfillment of the plant's nutrient needs through fertilization. Exploration and application of root bacteria can increase the population of nitrogen-fixing bacteria which can provide N nutrients that can be utilized by plants. Amino acids directly or indirectly in essential quantities can influence plant physiological activity and increase overall yield and quality. The research purpose is to determine and analyze the influence of the application of sugarcane root bacteria and amino acids on the growth and the brix value of sugarcane sap. This research used a Randomized Block Design experimental design, with one treatment factor: control (without application of sugarcane root bacteria and amino acids), application of sugarcane root bacteria, application of amino acids, and application of sugarcane root bacteria and amino acids. Data analysis with F test 5%. The result of the research showed that the application of sugarcane root bacteria and amino acids had a very significant effect on the plant height and root volume of sugarcane and had a significant effect on the stem diameter, as well as the highest brix sap value in the combined treatment of sugarcane root bacteria and amino acids, namely 18,28%.

Abstract

This study investigated the impact of liquid organic fertilizer (POC) application on the vegetative growth of various types of mustard plants, focusing on parameters such as plant weight, plant height, and number of leaves. The results showed that the application of POC significantly enhanced these growth parameters compared to treatments without POC. Among the POCs tested, formulations derived from organic materials such as onion waste, vegetable scraps, and eggshells demonstrated their effectiveness in supporting mustard plant growth. POCs supply essential macro- and micronutrients, as well as organic compounds which are crucial for improving plant physiological processes. Specifically, onion waste POC yielded the highest plant weight, while vegetable and eggshell POC contributed significantly to plant height and the number of leaves. The findings underline the importance of POC as an alternative, eco-friendly fertilizer capable of boosting mustard plant productivity during the vegetative growth phase. These results highlight the potential for POC to replace or supplement synthetic fertilizers, offering a sustainable solution to enhance crop yields while promoting soil health. Abstract

The tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) has a high export value for Indonesia and one type of tobacco widely developed in Jember Regency is the Kasturi Mawar. Conventional development of tobacco seeds in tobacco cultivation has several obstacles, that is it depends on the season, requires a large area, and is susceptible to pest attacks and plant diseases. The disadvantages of conventional propagation can be overcome with shoot induction technology by adding Benzyl Amino Purine (BAP). The research was carried out to determine the response of Kasturi Mawar tobacco explants in forming shoots with the addition of BAP concentration in vitro. The study was conducted from November 2023 to March 2024. It took place in the Tissue Culture Laboratory of Jember State Polytechnic at an altitude of 89 m above sea level with a latitude of 8°09'35.1"S 113°43'27.2"E. The experimental design used was a non-factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with the addition of 4 levels of BAP concentration with 5 replications. The results of the research showed that adding a BAP concentration of 3 mg/liter was the optimal concentration in inducing Kasturi Mawar tobacco shoots with shoot formation speed 10 days after inoculation (DAI), an average number of shoots of 42 shoots/explant, an average explant weight of 4.7 grams/explant at 56 DAI. However, further studies are still needed to measure the response of Kasturi Mawar tobacco explants in forming shoots on the addition of BAP concentrations of more than 4 mg/liter.

Abstract

Analysis of coffee's organoleptic quality is a crucial step in the development of high-quality coffee products. The organoleptic quality of coffee can influence consumer preference and satisfaction with coffee products. This study aims to analyze the level of preference for Arabica coffee (Coffea arabica L.) brews at various roasting levels. This study uses one factor, namely the roasting level of Arabica cork coffee beans (S), which consists of four levels: S1 = light roasting, S2 = medium roasting, S3 = medium-dusting, and S4 = dark roasting. The parameters observed were color, aroma, and flavor. The results of the study on the level of preference for Arabica coffee showed that different roasting levels can affect the level of preference for Arabica coffee brews. The results of the organoleptic test showed that coffee with medium-dark maturity was more preferred by the panelists compared to light, medium, and dark. The results of this study can be used as a reference for the coffee industry to improve the quality and preference of Arabica coffee.

Abstract

Downy mildew is the most common disease affecting maize crops in Indonesia. An alternative control being developed is the use of biological agents. This study was to determine the effectiveness of B. subtilis and P. fluorescens against downy mildew on pulut maize plants. This study uses Factorial Randomize Block Design (FRBD). the first factor being the combination of bacteria its J1 (Bacillus subtilis (5 ml/l) + Pseudomonas fluorescens (20 ml/l)), J2 (Bacillus subtilis (10 ml/l) + Pseudomonas fluorescens (35ml/l)). The second factor was the application time, its T1 (2 applications), T2 (3 applications ) The parameters observed in this study were spore identification, disease incidence, disease intensity and cob weight. The results showed that B. subtilis and P. fluorescens had no effect on downy mildew attack and yield increase with disease incidence of 90%, 10% disease intensity and yield (cob weight) of 3362.1 grams

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the marketing channels and the role of marketing institutions in the rice marketing system in Sumbersari District, Jember Regency. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, involving in-depth interviews with rice farmers and related market actors. The results revealed three marketing channel patterns: (1) farmers → middlemen → wholesalers → retailers → consumers, (2) farmers → wholesalers → retailers → consumers, and (3) farmers → retailers → consumers. Each marketing institution performed distinct functions, including production, processing, distribution, risk management, financing, and market information. The longest channel involved four institutions, while the shortest consisted of only two. The shortest channel enabled farmers to capture more added value by undertaking processing and packaging activities themselves. However, this channel was less common due to the higher risks and capital requirements. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening farmers' capacity and access to market infrastructure to improve their bargaining position and share of value in the rice marketing system
