Abstract

The increasing number of students pursuing higher education in Indonesia reflects growing awareness of the importance of education. However, the transition from secondary school to university requires adequate preparation due to more complex academic, social, and environmental demands. This transitional period often triggers stress among first-year students, which can affect their mental health and academic performance. Based on Dorothea Orem’s Self-Care Theory, self-care functions as a protective factor that helps students adapt to academic pressures and maintain psychological balance. This study aims to analyze the role of self-care in reducing stress levels while contributing to the development of mental health promotion strategies for university students. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional correlational design was employed. The sample consisted of 247 students from four study programs selected through proportional random sampling. Data were collected using the Self-Care Activities Screening Scale (SASS-14) and the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10). The results revealed that most students (62.8%: 155 respondents) had a moderate level of self-care, while 52.2% (respondents) experienced moderate stress and 47.4% (117 respondents) high stress. A significant negative correlation was found between self-care and stress (r = –0.289; p < 0.001), indicating that better self-care practices are associated with lower stress levels among first-year students.

Abstract

Students with disabilities are a group that faces more complex and complex mental health issues. Discrimination and difficulties experienced by students with disabilities during the learning process give rise to unpleasant feelings, putting them at higher risk for depression, anxiety, and other mental health problems. Therefore, mindfulness therapy is necessary to improve the mental health of students with disabilities, as evidenced by a reduction in negative symptoms such as stress, anxiety, and depressive symptoms. This study used a one-group pretest-posttest design involving 21 students with disabilities at Lancang Kuning University with various disabilities: deafness, blindness, physical disabilities, and mental retardation, with total sampling. Measurements in this study used the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale modified by Damanik (2006). The results of this study, using descriptive analysis, found varying results regarding differences in the mental health of students with disabilities after being given mindfulness therapy. However, overall, it can be concluded that there was an improvement in the mental health of students with disabilities who had received mindfulness therapy.

Abstract

Toxic relationships are increasingly prevalent among university students' romantic partnerships, marked by emotional manipulation, control, and poor communication. This study aims to examine the influence of emotion regulation and self-esteem on toxic relationships, both partially and simultaneously. A quantitative method was applied through a survey of 275 active students from various faculties at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. Data were collected using validated and reliable Likert-scale instruments. Multiple linear regression analysis and classical assumption tests were employed. The findings revealed that both emotion regulation and self-esteem significantly influenced toxic relationships simultaneously, with emotion regulation being the dominant contributor. Students with higher emotion regulation and self-esteem levels showed lower tendencies to engage in destructive romantic interactions. These results imply the importance of enhancing emotional regulation skills and fostering self-esteem as preventive strategies to support healthy interpersonal relationships among university students

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between the Big Five Personality dimensions and aggressive behavior in coastal adolescents in Lhokseumawe City. This study used a quantitative correlational approach with 385 adolescents aged 13–17 years living in coastal areas as subjects. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The measurement instruments used were the Big Five Personality scale from Akhtar and Azwar (2019) and the Aggression Questionnaire (AQ  adapted from Budiningsih (2015). The results of data analysis showed a significant relationship between openness to experience, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism with aggressive behavior. However, conscientiousness did not show a significant relationship. These findings suggest that personality plays an important role in aggressive tendencies in coastal adolescents.

Abstract

This study analyzed the prevalence, forms, and psychological impacts of Online Gender-Based Violence (OGBV) on adolescents in Pontianak City. A total of 1,697 adolescents aged 10–19 years participated in the survey, the majority of whom were active social media users. Participants were selected using a purposive sampling technique based on criteria of active social media use and age range, and data were collected through an online questionnaire distributed via Google Forms. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques, including frequency and percentage distributions, to identify patterns of OGBV experiences and their psychological impacts. The results indicate that approximately 41% of adolescents reported having experienced at least one form of OGBV, based on the proportion of respondents who did not select the “never experienced” category. The most frequently experienced forms of violence included hacking social media accounts (23%), receiving indecent images or videos (15%), and demeaning comments or posts (13%). Other types of violence, such as defamation, unwanted surveillance, and online harassment, also occurred among some respondents. The psychological impacts felt were quite significant, particularly rumination (39%), feelings of shame (22%), and uncontrollable anxiety (19%). Some victims experienced depression, self-harm, social avoidance, and sleep and eating disorders. These findings provide empirical evidence for the urgent need to strengthen school-based counseling services, integrate digital literacy into adolescent education, and develop preventive policies focused on online safety and psychological resilience. This study contributes to the growing body of research on OGBV by offering context-specific data that can inform targeted interventions in developing countries.

Abstract

This study examined the differential roles of emotional intelligence dimensions in relation to aspects of quarter life crisis among final-year university students. The transition to adulthood is often marked by academic pressure, identity uncertainty, and psychological instability, which may intensify developmental crises. A quantitative cross-sectional survey design was employed involving 154 final-year university students recruited through online questionnaires. Emotional intelligence was measured using a 23-item scale, while quarter life crisis was assessed using a 25-item scale. Data were analyzed using Spearman's rho correlation. The findings indicated that overall emotional intelligence was negatively associated with quarter life crisis. At the dimensional level, self-awareness demonstrated the most consistent negative correlations across crisis aspects, followed by self-regulation with more limited but significant associations. In contrast, motivation, empathy, and social skills showed more selective relationships, with empathy displaying positive associations with certain crisis aspects. These findings suggest that emotional intelligence operates differentially at the dimensional level. Strengthening internal emotional regulation capacities may support students psychological adjustment during the transition to adulthood.
