Abstract

This study aims to compare the level of intelligence between male and female, especially in the learning process in college. Someone who could complete their undergraduate study with a shorter period of time is assumed to have a higher level of intelligence. This research was conducted on Syiah Kuala University students who graduated on the second period of 2017 with a population of 758 people. The number of samples used was 262 people that were determined through Slovin formula with a margin error of 5%. The sampling technique used was Stratified Random Sampling with scientific disciplines as the basis for population stratification. The data analysis method used was the Cox Proportional Hazard (Cox PH) model to find a graduation hazard ratio based on gender and scientific disciplines variables. This study showed that female students have 125.5% potential to graduate faster compare to male. More detail, female students have the potential of 127% to graduate faster on the field of social science, economics and humanities, and 123.9% on the field of sciences and technology. Survival analysis also showed that female student has higher probability to be able to complete their studies faster. Accordingly, it can be concluded that female have a higher level of intelligence than male, especially in the learning process in college.

Abstract

This study investigated the effectiveness of psycho-education methods on college students’ attitudes toward post traumatic stress disorder. Analysis of results indicated that lecturing was the most effective psycho-educational method to obtain attitudinal changes. The effects of psycho-education methods of a short-duration intervention for college students' positive attitudes toward PTSD. Findings from the study led to the results that a short-duration of psycho-education intervention on PTSD effectively increases college students' attitudes toward post traumatic stress disorder, reduces negative attitudes towards PTSD.

Abstract

Abstract: Mental toughness is a capacity that individuals have in dealing with stressors, pressures, and challenges to achieve what they want. Individuals who have mental toughness will be able to overcome various kinds of demands and pressures that occur in their lives, one of which is in the field of education, such as academic achievement. This study aims to determine the correlation between mental toughness and academic achievement among Islamic boarding school students. A total of 335 students consisting of 219 women and 116 men with an age range of 12-18 years were selected as research samples using purposive sampling techniques. Mental Toughness Questionnaire-18 (MTQ-18) is used as a measure of mental toughness; meanwhile academic achievement is measured through score student report in period of Academic Year 2019/2020. The result has shown that there were positive and significant corelations between mental toughness and academic achievement in pesantren’s students (p= 0.011 with r= 0.139). In addition, the results of the study also suggested that the contribution of mental thougness toward on the students' academic achievement was lowest (1,9%). Further discussion of the correlation between the two variables has been described.Keywords: Mental Toughness; Academic Achievement; Boarding School StudentAbstrak: Mental toughness merupakan kemampuan yang dimiliki oleh individu dalam menghadapi stressor, tekanan, dan tantangan agar dapat mencapai tujuan yang dimiliki. Individu dengan mental toughness yang tinggi akan mampu mengatasi berbagai macam tuntutan dan tekanan yang akan dihadapinya, diantaranya adalah tuntutan yang akan ditemui dalam bidang pendidikan, seperti prestasi akademik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara mental toughness dengan prestasi akademik pada pelajar pesantren modern. Sejumlah 335 pelajar yang terdiri dari 219 perempuan dan 116 laki-laki dengan rentang usia 12-18 tahun telah dipilih sebagai sampel penelitian dengan teknik purposive sampling. Mental Toughness Questionnaire-18 (MTQ-18) digunakan sebagai alat ukur mental toughness, sedangkan prestasi akademik diukur dengan menggunakan nilai rapor pelajar periode Semester Ganjil Tahun Ajaran 2019/2020. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan yang positif dan signifikan antara mental toughness dengan prestasi akademik pada pelajar pesantren modern (p=0,011 dan r=0,139), artinya semakin tinggi tingkat mental toughness maka semakin tinggi pula prestasi akademik padapelajar pesantren modern tersebut. Selain itu, hasil penelitian ini juga menjelaskan bahwa nilai kontribusi variabel mental toughness terhadap prestasi akademik pelajar pesantren tergolong lemah, yaitu hanya 1,9%, pembahasan lanjutan mengenai korelasi antar kedua variabel tersebut telah diuraikan dalam artikel ini.Kata Kunci: Mental Toughness; Prestasi Akademik; Pelajar Pesantren

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengidentifikasi dan menganalisis status kesehatan mental masyarakat penyintas tsunami Aceh setelah 20 tahun Tsunami Aceh, yang dilakukan dengan menggunakan pendekatan survei kuantitatif. Sebanyak 329 penyintas tsunami Aceh 2004 berpartisipasi dalam penelitian ini yang dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling dengan rentang usia 20-65 tahun. Data penelitian dikumpulkan menggunakan skala Mental Health Inventory versi 18 (MHI 18) yang terdiri dari 18 item pernyataan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebanyak 73,5 persen penyintas tsunami Aceh berada tingkat kesehatan mental yang rendah. Temuan ini menggarisbawahi pentingnya pendampingan paska bencana traumatis bagi masyarakat penyintas bencana. Implikasi penelitian ini menjadi rekomendasi untuk program pendampingan psikologis di daerah rawan bencana.

Abstract

One of the problems experienced by adolescents is excessive smoking behavior, which can trigger negative physical and psychological impacts. Smoking intention is one of the antecedents of smoking behavior. Social factors (e.g., parental monitoring and peer pressure) and broader environmental factors (e.g., media exposure) can predict adolescent smoking intention. The objective of this study is to determine the predictors that contribute significantly between parental monitoring, peer pressure, and media exposure to smoking intentions in adolescents. This study involved 161 teenage boys and girls in Banda Aceh. The results of multiple regression analysis indicate that significant predictors of smoking intention are peer pressure and parental control which is a subdimension of parental monitoring. The implication of this study is the importance of having a positive peer environment and parental monitoring as protective factors from the risk of adolescent smoking behavior.

Abstract

Sleep quality is an important aspect for college students that directly affects their health, cognitive function, and academic performance in both women and men. Therefore, research on sex differences in sleep quality based on gender among university students is an interesting topic to be studied further, given the biological and psychosocial differences between men and women that can affect their sleep quality. The purpose of this study was to determine the differences in sleep quality between male and female students studying at the university level in Aceh Province using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) as a research data collection instrument. A total of 484 students (241 males and 243 females) were included as research samples, selected by simple randomization. The results of the data analysis showed that there was no difference in sleep quality between the male and female students. In addition, the research findings also explain that both male and female students have poor sleep quality categorization, and it can be assumed that the poor sleep quality experienced by college students can have long-term implications for their physical health and psychological well-being.Kualitas tidur menjadi salah satu aspek penting bagi mahasiswa yang berpengaruh langsung terhadap kesehatan, fungsi kognitif, dan performa akademiknya baik perempuan maupun laki-laki. Oleh karena itu, penelitian mengenai perbedaan kualitas tidur berdasarkan jenis kelamin di kalangan mahasiswa menjadi topik yang menarik untuk dikaji lebih lanjut, mengingat adanya perbedaan biologis dan psikososial antara laki-laki dan perempuan yang dapat memengaruhi kualitas tidurnya. Adapun yang menjadi tujuan penelitian ini dilakukan yaitu untuk mengetahui perbedaan kualitas tidur antara mahasiswa laki-laki dan perempuan yang sedang menempuh pendidikan di Universitas Propinsi Aceh, dengan menggunakan instrument Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) sebagai instrumen pengumpulan data penelitian. Sebanyak sebanyak 484 mahasiswa (yang terdiri dari 241 mahasiswa laki-laki dan 243 mahasiswa perempuan) terlibat sebagai sampel penelitian yang dipilih dengan teknik simple random sampling. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa tidak terdapat perbedaan kualitas tidur pada mahasiswa laki-laki maupun mahasiswa perempuan. Selain itu, temuan penelitian juga menjelaskan bahwa mahasiswa laki-laki maupun mahasiswa perempuan berada pada kategorisasi kualitas tidur yang buruk, hal ini dapat diasumsikan bahwa kualitas tidur yang buruk yang dialami oleh mahasiswa selama masa kuliah dapat memiliki implikasi jangka panjang terhadap kesehatan fisik dan kesejahteraan psikologisnya.

Abstract

Stres akademik merupakan suatu kondisi berupa tekanan psikologis atau emosional yang dialami mahasiswa sehingga memperburuk kualitas tidurnya, Imana slaah satu penyebabnya yaitu adanya stres akademik yang tentunya berpengaruh terhadap kesejahteraan emosional, mental, dan fisik, serta performansi sisi akademisnya. Adapun yang menjadi tujuan penelitian yaitu untuk mengetahui hubungan antara stres akademik dengan kualitas tidur pada mahasiswa Universitas Syiah Kuala. Sebanyak 70 mahasiswa (yang terdiri dari 19 laki-laki dan 51 perempuan) terlibat sebagai sampel penelitian ini yang dipilih dengan teknik purposive sampling. Perception of Academic Stress Scale (PASS) dan Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) digunakan sebagai instrumen pengumpulan data penelitian yang dilakukan secara online. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan antara stres akademik dengan kualitas tidur (p=0,010, r=.305), hal ini dapat dijelaskan bahwa semakin tinggi stres akadamik yang dialami mahasiswa maka akan semakin rendah kualitas tidur mahasiswa, dan sebaliknya. Hasil temuan lainnya juga menunjukkan bahwa secara umum hampir secara keseluruhan mahasiswa memiliki kualiats tidur yang rendah (91,5%), sedangkan stres akademik berada pada kategori sedang.Academic stress is a condition in which students experience psychological or emotional pressure that decreases their sleep quality. Academic stress is one of the causes of this condition, which affects students' emotional, mental, and physical health, as well asacademic performance. This study aimed to determine the relationship between academic stress and sleep quality among Syiah Kuala University students. A total of 70 students (19 males and 51 females) selected using the purposive sampling technique were used as samples for this study. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Perception of Academic Stress Scale (PASS) were used to gather data for online study. The findings indicated a correlation between academic stress and sleep quality (r =.305, p = 0.010). This can be explained by the relationship between student sleep quality and academic stress levels; students who experience higher levels of academic stress also experience lower levels of sleep. Additional research findings showed that almost all students had low sleep quality (91.5%), while academic stress was moderate.

Abstract

Burnout adalah suatu kondisi kelelahan emosional, depersonalisasi, dan perasaan rendah diri yang disebabkan oleh adanya stres kerja yang berkepanjangan. Sebagian mahasiswa bekerja paruh waktu yang rentan mengalami burnout yang disebabkan kelelahan secara fisik maupun emosional karena bekerja yang pastinya dapat berdampak pada kulilahnya. Adapun yang menjadi tujuan penelitian dilakukan yaitu untuk melihat gambaran burnout pada mahasiswa pekerja paruh waktu di Banda Aceh, yang dilakukan dengan teknik deskriptif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan secara online menggunakan link gform yang berisikan data demografi dan juga Maslach Burnout Inventory sebagai instrumen pengumpulan data penelitian. Berdasarkan data yang diterima hanya 46 sampel yang memenuhi kriteria penelitian sebagai mahasiswa pekerja paruh waktu yang terdiri dari 25 mahasiswa laki-laki dan 21 mahasiswa perempuan, yang dipilih dengan teknik purposive sampling. Secara garis besar hasil temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa yang bekerja paruh waktu mengalami burnout yang sangat tinggi. data menunjukkan bahwa sebanyak 91,3 persen mahasiswa pekerja paruh waktu berada pada level burnout tingkat tinggi, sedangkan 8,7 persen lainnya mengalami burnout tingkat sedang.Burnout is a disorder marked by depersonalization, feelings of inferiority, and emotional weariness brought on by extended periods of stress at work. Some part-time students are vulnerable to burnout brought on by the mental and physical exhaustion of their jobs, and this can definitely affect their academic achievement. The research used descriptive methodologiesto determine if burnout has been defined in Banda Aceh's part-time working student population. Data collection was carried out online using a Google-form link that containing demographic data and also the Maslach Burnout Inventory as research instrument. Based on the data received, only 46 samples met the research criteria as part-time working students consisting of 25 male students and 21 female students, who were selected using purposive sampling technique. In general, the research findings indicate that students who work part-time have very high levels of burnout; up to 91.3 per cent of these students have high levels of burnout, while the remaining 8.7 per cent have moderate levels of burnout.

Abstract

Life in the orphanage can affect adolescents’s living conditions, such as psychological well-being. Psychological well-being is affected by many factors, there are life experience,age, social support, religiosity and gender. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The participants were 74 adolescents (337males and 37 females), with aged range between 14-18 years who lived at the orphanages in Banda Aceh city. The data collected by using Ryff’s Psychological well-being Scale revisited with coefficient realibility 0,935. The study showed there was adoloscents of orphanages with high category psychological well-being (97,3%).The results of data analysis used Independent Sample T-Test with significant value (ρ) = 0,036 (ρ < 0,05) and corelation dimension of psychological well-being used Pearson. The study showed that there was difference psychological well-being between males and females and then six dimension of psychological well-being contribute for psychological well-being’s adoloscent of orphanages in Banda Aceh city

Abstract

Bullying is a form of adolescent’s negative behavior that continues to increase in school. The involvement of adolescents as the bullies are related to the mental health condition. This study aimed to find the correlation between bullying and mental health on student high school in Banda Aceh. 400 adolescents in Banda Aceh (265 females and 135 males) were invited to participated in the study were using Multi-stage Cluster and Disproportionate Stratified Random Sampling. The data was collected using The Revised Olweus Bully/Victim Questionnaire (OBVQ) and Mental Health Inventory-38 (MHI-38).
