Abstract

A good test set can be reflected in the quality of the items. It can measure the ability of the test takers reasonably even though they are distributed in several question packages. This study uses an exploratory, descriptive method to determine the equivalence of standardized test sets in science subjects for junior high schools in Indonesia. The data were obtained from the database of Junior High School National Examination results in the subject of Natural Sciences, which consisted of 5 question packages with 40 items/package. The equating technique uses the Item Response Theory 3 PL approach with the help of R Studio Software. The research results show that the national exam questions, which consist of 5 question packages, have a good level of item difficulty and all guesses. However, the discrimination index and several items obtained unfavorable results. In addition to the results of equating the graphical method using the closeness of the test characteristic curve, the Stocking & Lord methods produce the most equivalent scores. These findings can be a reference for test developers or researchers in the field of measurement to produce better and more accurate test kits.

Abstract

The growing demand for digitally competent science teachers has positioned digital pedagogy as an important component of contemporary chemistry teacher education. In chemistry learning, digital technologies play an important role in helping students understand abstract concepts, molecular representations, and symbolic processes. However, previous studies focus on digital skills, with limited attention to pedagogy in chemistry teacher education. This study aimed to examine the predictive relationships among pedagogical orientation, pedagogical practices, and digital pedagogical competencies among pre-service chemistry teachers in Islamic universities in Indonesia. A survey was conducted with 158 pre-service chemistry teachers from seven Islamic universities, and the data were analysed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). The findings revealed that pedagogical orientation significantly influenced pedagogical practices (t = 28.761) and digital pedagogical competencies (t = 2.399), while pedagogical practices also significantly affected digital pedagogical competencies (t = 8.390). The structural model explained 69.1% of the variance in digital pedagogical competencies (R² = 0.691), indicating a substantial predictive effect. Among the examined variables, pedagogical orientation emerged as the strongest predictor of digital pedagogy. Practically, the findings suggest that chemistry teacher education programs should strengthen pedagogically meaningful uses of digital technologies, including visualization tools, simulations, and interactive learning platforms.

Abstract

This research aimed to produce science comics products of earth disaster response, described the validity, practicality and effectiveness of comic learning tools based on socioscientific issues (SSI). SSI-based comics combined with guided inquiry models to increase interest and science learning achievement. It used to facilitate students learning in classrooms which mostly have a visual learning style. This research developed using 4-D model and designed using the one-group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects were 120 Grade VII students of Junior High School. The instruments used validation sheets, the implementation of learning, student activities, student responses in the form of modality and interest questionnaires, attitude assessment sheets, and written tests. The data were analyzed descriptively in the form of questionnaires and learning outcomes tests. This questionnaire contains statements and a Likert scale to measure students' learning modalities and interests, while the learning outcomes test is in the form of a multiple choice written test to measure students' cognitive abilities by determining the percentage of n-gain score and the percentage of learning completeness. The results showed that students' interest and learning achievement on earth disaster response material had increased in all classes because of the use of  SSI-based comic teaching materials that helped optimise the process of guided inquiry learning. The stage of guided inquiry also requires students to read a lot and discuss SSI problems in comics. Statistical tests showed that interest in learning affects increasing student learning achievement in Classes VII-B, VII-C, and VII-E because most students have visual learning modalities. But it did not have much impact on grades VII-A and VII-D, which are modality levels visual learning is still relatively low. This is due to the interest in learning which is influenced  by learning modalities, abilities, learning intensity, student attitudes, and student learning environment. So, great interest tends towards senior learning achievement as well, but not all show the influence of attention on it. Student responses were positive. Finally, SSI-based comic teaching materials in guided inquiry learning on earth disaster response materials are appropriate to be used to increase student interest and achievement in science.

Abstract

Teachers in elementary schools have not developed many science literacy problems so the science literacy competence of students has not been evaluated clearly and accurately. The purpose of this study is to develop a science literacy evaluation instrument and find out the feasibility of the developed instrument. The development of instruments in this study used a combination of Wilson and Oriondo and Antonio models. The instrument development steps include (1) test design, (2) test trials, and (3) test assembly. The sample number is 31 students. The sampling technique used is random sampling. The content validation test by four experts based on the Aiken assessment formula obtained a validity value of 0.9813 which means it is declared "valid" or worthy of use. Instrument validation is empirically declared "valid" and has an r value above 0.355. The value of all items is declared reliable with multiple-choice questions having a reliable value of 0.743, short-fill questions 0.744, and description questions 0.738. The results of the difference power analysis, the value of the Corrected Item-Total Correlation does not exceed the value of Cronbach's Alpha Item Deleted and has a "good" difference power interpretation value. Analysis of the difficulty level of the question items shows that the questions vary with the ideal level of difficulty with an easy comparison: medium: difficult which is 3: 5: 2. It can be concluded that overall the science literacy question items are in good condition and feasible for measuring students' science literacy competence.

Abstract

The effectiveness of a course needs to be evaluated to determine whether the course is relevant to the graduate profile. The development of science and technology makes it necessary for a course to be reconstructed . This study aims to reconstruct the science learning planning course using the Provus model based on the gap theory with four stages, namely design, installation, process, and product. The research method used is an evaluative method. Data collection was carried out by interview, observation, and documentation. Data sources in this study include the actions or words of the lecturers of science learning planning course, heads of study programs, RPS, SN-DIKTI standard documents, and descriptions of the science learning process. The standard process in lectures has been implemented; however, there are several gaps that have occurred. First, there is a mismatch in the implementation of learning, particularly in the aspect of alignment between the learning process and research and community service activities. Second, there is a gap in the variable of student study load, namely the absence of alignment in credit units within the cluster of courses related to science learning planning.
