Abstract

Abstract

Education for sustainability development (ESD) is a way to realize that every individual lives interdependently with each other and their environment. Research has been conducted with survey methods to reveal the level of students’ disposition/attitude to sustainable living, being a basis for the development of appropriate learning.  The research sample was 95 students at SMPN Garut. The data in this study is primary data, which is obtained directly from the research subject. The research was conducted by delivering questionnaires to students consisting of 51 closed question items. The results of the study obtained the average of student disposition score from several ESD themes, namely the environment, waste, water, energy, natural disasters, and health respectively is 2.99, 3.15, 3.24, 3.11, 3.08 and 3.33. The average of these all themes is 3.15.  Based on this study, the results were obtained that students' sustainability disposition/attitude are at a high level. The positive response given by students shows the attitude of students who support the efforts to realize sustainable development. In this case, there is no guarantee if someone who have good sustainability disposition will have good sustainability practice. Sustainable disposition/attitude must be supported by sustainable behaviors and practices so that sustainable living goals can be achieved. The last, Indonesia government can make the policy and guidelines related to how to do effective sustainability education in Indonesia to support sustainability awareness of students and society.

Abstract

Impulse and momentum mobile app can be another alternative to overcome the problem of using printed teaching materials. Impulse and momentum mobile app present concepts accompanied by examples in everyday life in images, animations, and videos. It can reduce students' difficulties in connecting concepts or materials with phenomena. The difficulties experienced by these students can have an impact negative on students' understanding of physics concepts. The impulse and momentum mobile app shows valid results with an average value of 3.32. Comments and suggestions from the validator are considered as revision material so that impulse and momentum multimedia teaching materials in mobile applications are better, more attractive, worthy of being tested for effectiveness. The mobile app needs to be revised based on comments and suggestions given by physics lecturers and teachers. The improvement of students' understanding of physics concepts is shown by testing the effectiveness of multimedia teaching materials in the experimental class and class control. In the analysis of the different tests with t-test, which involved 70 student respondents, the value of t count is 19.587 with t table of 1.99. P-value is p = 0.000, where the P-value is smaller than 0.05. It can be concluded that there is a significant difference in post-test value data on the ability to understand concepts between the experimental class and the control class. These results indicate that impulse and momentum mobile app effectively improves the ability to understand concepts of student physics.

Abstract

Argumentation skills are essential for students in understanding and responding critically to socio-scientific issues (SSI). However, many students still struggle to construct logical, evidence-based arguments. Two contributing factors are environmental concern and reading interest. Environmental concern can enhance sensitivity to real-world problems, while reading interest broadens students’ perspectives and strengthens the foundation for argumentation. This study aims to (1) examine the effect of environmental concern and reading interest on the argumentation skills of Grade 7 students in relation to socio-scientific issues, (2) identify the causes of the relatively low influence of environmental concern and reading interest on argumentation skills, and (3) explore other factors that influence students' argumentation skills. The study employed a mixed-methods approach with a sequential explanatory design. Quantitative data were collected through questionnaires and tests, while qualitative data were obtained through interviews and observations. The quantitative sample consisted of 173 Grade 7 students from State Junior High School 1 Jenangan selected through random sampling. The qualitative sample comprised six students selected using purposive sampling. The results of the multiple linear regression analysis indicated that environmental concern and reading interest jointly influenced students’ argumentation skills, although the effect was relatively small, accounting for only 5.8 %. This limited influence was attributed to difficulties in connecting personal experiences to arguments, limited interest in scientific reading materials, lack of practice in argument construction, and minimal teacher guidance. Other contributing factors included discussion experience, parental interaction, use of social media and the internet, and peer influence
