Abstract

This research is motivated by the limitations of studies that in-depth reveal the subjective experiences of lay Buddhists, especially upāsikā, in participating in Atthasilani training. Most previous studies have emphasized the normative aspects and general benefits of religious practice, leaving gaps in understanding the meaning of individual experiences. This study aims to describe subjective experiences and identify the motives behind upāsikā's participation in Atthasilani training. The study used a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method referring to the thinking of Alfred Schutz, through interviews, observation, and documentation techniques with participants at Wisma Vipassana Kusalacitta Bekasi. The results show that the motives for participation are diverse, including the desire to deepen the teachings, self-development, the search for inner peace, and the use of free time. The experiences experienced by participants occurred gradually, starting from unfamiliarity, then a process of adaptation, until reaching a deeper spiritual meaning. Practically, the research results can form the basis for developing more contextual spiritual development programs. The limitations of this study lie in the limited number of participants and locations, so further research with a wider scope is needed

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji representasi perubahan sikap sosial dari individualisme menuju kebersamaan dalam film pendek berjudul Sambung Silaturahmi. Fenomena individualisme masyarakat urban yang cenderung acuh terhadap lingkungan sosial menjadi latar belakang utama penelitian ini. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk menganalisis bagaimana transisi emosional dan pergeseran nilai sosial dikonstruksi melalui tanda-tanda visual dalam adegan film. Metode yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan analisis semiotika Charles Sanders Peirce, yang membedah tanda melalui relasi triadik representamen, objek, dan interpretant, serta klasifikasi ikon, indeks, dan simbol. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perubahan sosial dalam film tidak terjadi secara instan, melainkan melalui proses semiosis yang melibatkan konflik, tanggung jawab moral, dan penemuan identitas personal. Analisis pada adegan kunci mengungkap bahwa label negatif "pelit" (simbol) berubah menjadi empati melalui tindakan nyata memperbaiki kesalahan (indeks) dan pengenalan latar belakang keluarga tokoh utama (ikon). Simpulan dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa media visual mampu merepresentasikan kebersamaan bukan sekadar sebagai interaksi fisik, melainkan sebagai hasil dari proses reinterpretasi makna antarindividu. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi pada kajian semiotika visual dalam memahami peran film sebagai refleksi realitas sosial dan media komunikasi nilai-nilai kolektif di tengah arus modernisasi.

Abstract

This paper discusses the myths that still continue and live around Troloyo Cemetery, a historical burial site in Trowulan believed to be from the Majapahit era. Many stories are passed down, such as the belief in a healing well, thick mystical fog, or even animals that die when entering the sacred area. Although some people see these as spiritual signs, others believe there are logical explanations. Using a qualitative method, this research collects stories from local people and compares them with written sources to see how these myths are still remembered and believed today. In the end, these myths show how people keep their connection to the past, even when the facts are unclear. In conclusion, it also shows that myths are not just stories, as they help shape the way people respect history, religion, and culture.

Abstract

This study examines animal symbolism in the reliefs and ornaments of Bajangratu Temple in Trowulan, Mojokerto. The research aims to identify the animals depicted on the temple, interpret their symbolic meanings within Hindu belief systems, and analyze them using Motte-Florac’s (2007) theory of animal symbolism. Data were collected through direct observation at the site and interviews with cultural experts and temple caretakers. The findings show that the animals represented in Bajangratu Temple serve purposes beyond decoration. They function as symbolic elements that express religious values, moral teachings, and messages of political legitimacy. In conclusion, through these animal symbols, the temple reflects the worldview of the community that built and preserved it, highlighting the cultural significance of animal imagery.

Abstract

This study examines the role of “space” in travel writing, emphasizing how spatial representation functions not merely as descriptive background but as a critical and constructed element within narrative discourse. While travel writing has long been associated with exploration and cultural encounter, there remains a significant lack of critical engagement with how space is produced, interpreted, and mediated through language. Drawing on spatial theory, particularly the works of Henri Lefebvre and Michel Foucault, alongside postcolonial insights from Edward Said, this study employs qualitative textual analysis to investigate selected travel narratives. The findings reveal that travel writing actively constructs space through narrative strategies that reflect ideological positions, cultural assumptions, and power relations. Rather than presenting space as neutral or objective, travel authors negotiate and sometimes critique spatial meanings, revealing tensions between self and other, center and periphery. In conclusion, this study contributes to literary and cultural studies by foregrounding the importance of critical thinking in analyzing spatial representation, arguing that travel writing plays a significant role in shaping how readers perceive and understand the world.

Abstract

This study examines the representation of the Ramayana epic in the reliefs of Bajangratu Temple, a 14th-century Majapahit paduraksa gate located in Trowulan, East Java. Although its original function remains uncertain, the temple is closely associated with memorial traditions for King Jayanegara and reflects the artistic sophistication of Majapahit architecture. The Ramayana reliefs, particularly scenes of Hanuman’s monkey army battling Ravana’s demons, serve not only as artistic narratives but also as moral and ideological symbols. Through Stuart Hall’s Theory of Representation, the carvings are interpreted as cultural constructs that communicate values such as loyalty, virtue, and the triumph of good over evil. Field observations and interviews support the view that these reliefs function as visual texts, reinforcing Majapahit ideals of righteous leadership, social order, and spiritual identity. In conclusion, the Ramayana relief in Bajangratu Temple is not merely matters of decoration, but a symbolic and spiritual way to prevent any upcoming bad deed

Abstract

This study aims to map research trends regarding the application of deep learning in the context of higher education through a bibliometric approach based on Scopus data for the period 2015–2025. The analysis was conducted using the Bibliometrix package with the Biblioshiny interface in RStudio to explore various indicators, such as annual publication trends, citation distribution, contributions by country and institution, and collaboration patterns among authors. Additionally, this study utilizes visualizations such as three-field plots (Sankey diagrams), network analysis, word clouds, and tree maps to identify relationships between elements and thematic clusters in the literature. The results indicate a significant increase in the number of publications, with contributions predominantly coming from countries such as China and the United States. Citation analysis indicates an uneven distribution of scientific impact, where some articles have a more dominant influence than others. Thematically, research is developing along two main trends: a technical approach focused on the development of artificial intelligence systems and a pedagogical approach highlighting its impact on the learning process. These findings indicate that deep learning is not only positioned as a technological innovation but also as a strategy for building adaptive, personalized, and data-driven learning systems. Overall, this study provides a comprehensive overview of the direction and dynamics of global research, while also opening up opportunities for future collaboration and the advancement of research in this field.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the Family Hope Program policy at the local level. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving relevant stakeholders as well as beneficiary and non-beneficiary communities. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the program has generally been carried out in accordance with existing regulations, although several aspects have not yet been fully optimal, particularly in terms of targeting accuracy, data verification processes, and supervision. These conditions are influenced by implementer capacity, inter-institutional coordination, and local social dynamics.

Abstract

Religious traditions in Indonesia often reflect a blend of Islamic teachings and local cultural practices that have developed within society. One clear example is the Nikah Malem Songo tradition found in the coastal area of Tuban, East Java. This study aims to identify the form of acculturation between Islamic values and local culture in this practice, as well as to examine its philosophical meaning and relevance in the modern era. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, focusing on analyzing the religious and cultural values embedded in the tradition.the findings indicate that Nikah Malem Songo represents a form of cultural Islam that continues to uphold the essential pillars and legal requirements of marriage in Islam. At the same time, it is enriched with cultural elements, such as the selection of a specific nighttime for the ceremony and the symbolic use of the number nine, which is associated with the Wali Songo. This tradition embodies values of blessing, respect for religious scholars, and the strengthening of the community’s social and cultural identity.from an Islamic perspective, this practice is acceptable as long as it does not contradict the principles of Islamic law. Despite facing the challenges of modernization, Nikah Malem Songo remains relevant as a form of local wisdom that should be preserved wisely and proportionally.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis eksistensi Gerakan Pramuka dalam pembentukan karakter peserta didik sekolah dasar di era digital. Latar belakang penelitian didasarkan pada tantangan degradasi nilai karakter akibat pesatnya perkembangan teknologi informasi yang memengaruhi perilaku peserta didik. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif (library research). Sumber data dalam penelitian ini meliputi jurnal ilmiah nasional dan internasional, yang diterbitkan dalam kurun waktu lima tahun terakhir dan dengan analisis deskriptif terhadap implementasi kegiatan kepramukaan sebagai kegiatan ekstrakurikuler. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Gerakan Pramuka tetap relevan dan efektif dalam membentuk karakter disiplin, tanggung jawab, kerja sama, dan kepemimpinan melalui metode learning by doing. Namun demikian, terdapat faktor pendukung seperti komitmen sekolah dan pembina, serta faktor penghambat seperti keterbatasan fasilitas dan adaptasi terhadap teknologi digital. Dengan demikian, eksistensi Pramuka di era digital perlu terus diperkuat melalui inovasi program yang kontekstual dan adaptif terhadap perkembangan zaman. Penelitian selanjutnya disarankan untuk mengkaji model inovasi kegiatan kepramukaan berbasis digital atau hybrid serta mengukur secara kuantitatif pengaruhnya terhadap pembentukan karakter peserta didik agar diperoleh hasil yang lebih komprehensif dan kontekstual.
