Abstract

The lack of learning interest and environmental awareness among students poses a particular challenge in the school learning process. This study introduces ecoprint pounding as an alternative environment-based learning medium that is not only educational, but also enjoyable and contextual. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a participatory method. The research subjects were elementary school students who were directly involved in the ecoprint-making process, starting from selecting leaves to printing patterns on fabric using the pounding technique. The findings indicate that this activity was effective in increasing students’ enthusiasm and engagement in learning. Additionally, students appeared more creative, collaborative, and showed greater awareness of the importance of protecting the environment. These findings suggest that ecoprint pounding can be a relevant and meaningful learning strategy that supports the early development of ecopedagogical values.

Abstract

Critical thinking is essential in 21st-century education, but its application in English language teaching (ELT) in Indonesia still needs to be better understood. This research examines the understanding and application of critical thinking among prospective ELT teachers in Indonesia. Using qualitative methods with in-depth interviews with three pre-service ELT teachers, this study revealed that prospective teachers understand critical thinking as the ability to analyse, evaluate, and synthesize information. They employ strategies such as group discussions and accurate case analysis to encourage critical thinking but face challenges such as time constraints and variations in student abilities. Findings indicate the need for teacher training programs focusing more on critical thinking skills and providing adequate resources. This research emphasizes the importance of reformulating teacher education curricula and developing effective teaching strategies, contributing to the academic literature and a foundation for practical improvements in ELT in Indonesia. This study's implications are the need to reform teacher education curricula and develop more effective teaching strategies that enhance students' critical thinking abilities. Therefore, this research contributes to the academic literature and provides a foundation for practical improvements in ELT in Indonesia.

Abstract

This research investigated the perspectives of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students on their experiences with group work (GW) in both online and offline environments. The results indicated that most students who participated in GW in both settings held a positive perception. Implementing a Collaborative Learning (CL) approach can enhance students’ self-confidence, motivation, engagement in a studentcentered environment, and sense of responsibility. However, some students reported negative experiences with online GW due to issues such as unstable internet connections, limited prior experience with GW, and unfamiliarity with relevant applications and software. Consequently, the findings of this study offer valuable insights for students, educators, and policymakers

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in language learning in vocational high schools, focusing on the experiences of teachers and students. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, where data are collected through observation and interviews. Vygotsky's constructivism theory is used as a basis for understanding how AI supports independent and interactive learning. The results show that AI improves students' speaking and listening skills through automated feedback and enables personalized learning. However, limited infrastructure and lack of training for teachers are major obstacles in implementing AI in the classroom. In addition, although AI increases the motivation of most students, some students with limited access to technology have difficulty in using it optimally. The main conclusion of this study is that AI has great potential in improving language learning in vocational schools, but there is a need for improved infrastructure and training for teachers to ensure effective implementation. This study contributes to updating perspectives on the integration of AI in vocational education and opens up opportunities for further research to explore the long-term impact of AI on student learning outcomes

Abstract

This narrative review analyses the social development of students with special needs in Indonesian inclusive schools by synthesising five high-quality empirical studies (indexed SINTA 1–3) published between 2018 and 2023. Addressing three research questions, the synthesis reveals heterogeneous and generally limited social development trajectories shaped primarily by ecological interactions rather than inherent disability characteristics. Key barriers include symbolic inclusion, inadequate teacher training in multimodal strategies, low peer acceptance, and systemic resource deficits, whereas facilitators encompass contextualised multimodal communication, active family involvement, and supportive institutional leadership. Effective interventions depend on coordinated teacher–parent–peer triangulation, leveraging local sign language, structured peer-mediated activities, and emotionally responsive pedagogy. Integrating Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory with Indonesian collectivist values of gotong royong, this review proposes a culturally grounded framework to bridge persistent policy–practice gaps. Policy recommendations include mandatory inclusive pedagogy certification, enforceable GPK-to-student ratios (1:10), and performance-based funding mechanisms.
