Abstract

This article describes the process of how knowledge is formed and formulated with sensory perception in the form of experience. In Islamic philosophy, sensory experience that generates knowledge has never happened in the absence of mental existence as one of the essential principles of the philosophy of Mulla Sadra. Al- though the sensory perception is not the only one, Sadra considers that acceptable reason as sensory observation is a result of the unity of subject and object. This concept provides a basis for thinking that any form of authenticity from fundamen- tal ideas give meaning to the doctrine of the other. Without that sense, perception will never be materialized. This perception involves the awareness that comes from the soul as an active agent. Rejecting perception means the rejection of the value of knowledge. In Mulla Sadra’s argument, the implications of mental concepts in the sensual perception will influence sense objects.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate socio-political factors that make certain legal opinions (fatwās) in a Muslim context become authoritative and powerful. Although these legal opinion are not binding in a principle, their supporting agents engender a degree of their efficacy and authoritativeness. They are followed and abided when external factors, either the state or society, politically or voluntarily support the implementation of those fatwās. These external factors of fatwā are largely understudied, especially in the light of how fatwā gains its authoritativeness and power to attract people to follow and comply with fatwā rulings. By studying controversial fatwās of MUI (Indonesian Ulama Council), namely on the banning of Ahmadiyyah and the prohibition of secularism, pluralism, and liberalism in religion of Islam. this article sheds a light more comprehensively on the relationship between fatwā and external factors that make this non-legal binding opinion powerful and authoritative.

Abstract: Developing religion-based science was not just a scientific problem, but also a social and Islamic problem. So the problem is not only related to efforts to find a basis of philosophy of science and methodology support, but also an attempt to reconstruct the public mindset and understanding of Islam. This article will look at some of the key concepts of Islam, which must be a "place" that is fertile ground for the development of science, but in reality many understood as a resistor, if not, even as a barrier, for the growth and development of science in Islam. Completion fundamentally to this problem urgent to be given, to find the possibility of negotiation area and wedge of science, so that the great effort the development of Islamic science can be landed with ramps.

Abstract

This article examines the concept of Siyar and its relation to the dynamisation of Islamic law. Siyar is a discipline in Islamic law covering issues of law of war and international relations in Islamic traditions, which means conducting Muslim states in relation with other communities. The efforts of the contextualisation of Siyar have been critical primarily when Muslims have faced challenging realities of nation-states, globalisation and post 9/11. This article arguably states that Siyar needs to be reinterpreted and revitalised due to its classical idea is not compatible with the modern ideas and practices of modern polity. Its main doctrine of bifurcation of the world (dār al-Islām and dār al-ḥarb) encourages arguments and practices of the defensive and offensive jihād amongst Islamist agencies. Accordingly, Muhammadiyah contextualised Siyar through its very idea of the Negara Pancasila sebagai Dār al-‘Ahd wa al-Shahādah emphasising Indonesia as the state of negotiation between the arenas of dār al-Islām and dār al-ḥarb.

Abstract

Islam has an essential role in the development of human civilization. As a relatively new religion, Islam has developed very rapidly for over 1500 years. Currently, Islam is recorded as the second-largest religion in the world after Christianity, with followers of more than 1.5 billion. Based on several official survey institutions, in 2025, it is predicted that Muslims will reach 30% of the earth’s population and become the largest religion in the world. Islam was born in the Arabian Peninsula and has spread throughout the world. Muslims can be found in almost all countries, including underdeveloped countries, developing countries, and developed countries. Even the United States, with the most substantial economic, political, and military power globally, is inseparable from Muslims in its development process. Edward E. Curtis, in his book Muslim Americans in The Military, mentioned various historical evidence showing Muslim participation in America. According to this Professor of Religion from the University of Indianapolis, Muslims had played a significant role, from discovering the Americas to defending the north’s victories in the United States Civil War.2 Also, he added that even though Christopher Columbus was the sailor who discovered America, that discovery would be impossible to happen without Muslims.
