Abstract

This paper tries to reconsidering the theory of authority, propounded by Max Weber, a pioneer of classical theory of sociology, particularly on his idea of charisma. Weber predicted that modernisation, as represented by the rationalisation process which is unstoppable phenomena for modern world lead the changing process of charismatic authority into other forms of authorities, especially the legal-rational one. By describing the dynamics of Kyai’s charismatic authority within the pesantren milieu, the rationalisation process tends to enhance the existence of charismatic authority of kyai. Based on a case study of a famous traditional pesantren in Yogyakarta, this paper elaborates the process of rationalisation describes how all instruments of traditional pesantren, including those that are resulted from the process, have contribution in preserving and maintaining the charismatic authority o kyai. Most members of traditional pesantren even believe that the quality of charisma, which is laid on the foundation of supernatural power, can be transmitted to the next successor through the institutionalisation of practices to gain that power.

Abstract

This paper aims to change the laborers who are always seen as an underdeveloped and oppressed societies. In looking at the relations of laborers and employers, some people often use the paradigm of slavery rather than the humanitarian paradigm.This research used theory of justice John Rawls’s as an approach in fighting for labor rights in the works system in Indonesia. Justice for Rawlsm defined as a combination of freedom and equality. Rawlsian’s theory of justice often refereed to as “liberal equality”, which emphasizes the justice as fairness aspect. This theory of justice used to offer a new alternative in correcting earlier theories of justice, such as utilitarianism and institutionalism that are perceived as failing in reducing errors to the paradigm of labor. This study showed that injustice in a social structure of society is more due to the loss of deep empathy associated with the argument of equality as a keyword in the conception of justice. Rawls offers the concept of justice as fairness that should be the main foothold in the struggle for equality of laborers in various aspects, especially concerning the fulfillment of rights, obligations, and welfare of life.Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengubah paradigma tentang buruh yang selalu dipandang sebagai sekelompok masyarakat yang terbelakang dan tertindas. Dalam memandang relasi buruh dan majikan, sebagian orang seringkali menggunakan paradigma perbudakan daripada paradigma kemanusiaan (humanitarian paradigm). Penelitian ini menggunakan teori keadilan John Rawls sebagai pendekatan dalam memperjuangkan hak-hak buruh dalam sistem kerja di Indonesia. Keadilan bagi Rawls, diartikan sebagai perpaduan antara kebebasan (freedom) dan kesamaan (fairness). Teori keadilan Rawlsian sering disebut dengan istilah “kesamaan-liberal”, yang menekankan pada aspek justice as fairness.Teori keadilan ini digunakan untuk menawarkan sebuah alternatif baru dalam mengoreksi teori-teori keadilan sebelumnya, seperti utilitarianisme dan institusionalisme yang dianggap gagal dalam mengurangi kesalahan terhadap paradigma buruh. Hasil Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ketidakadilan dalam sebuah struktur sosial masyarakat lebih diakibatkan oleh hilangnya rasa empati yang mendalam terkait dengan argumen kesetaraan (equality) sebagai kata kunci dalam konsepsi keadilan. Rawls menawarkan konsep tentang justice as fairness yang harus menjadi pijakan utama dalam memperjuangkan kesetaraan buruh dalam berbagai aspek, terutama menyangkut pemenuhan hak, kewajiban dan kesejahteraan hidup.

Abstract

Humans as social creatures are always interacts each others, including when they are within an organization. All activities that are conducted within an organization need an effective communication. Organizational communication is a process of delivering a massage to all elements within an organization. In this case, organizational communication has a signifiant role in creating an effective organization. The fulfilment of the needs of information and communication in an organization will increase the productivity of its employees. This study focuses on IPDN Jatinangor, an educational institution. When social interactions that include social contact and communication run well, the relationship among elements within the institution is also effectively kept. This situation eventually will increase the productivity of the institution in realizing the main goals of the institution

Abstract

Relations in the fishermen community of Betahwalang village are shown in economic field and non economic field. The strong network and social norm within community enable fishermen community members to confineand to direct actions of actors within the group. Fishermen of Betahwalang are able to separate economic field and non economic field by logic of separation. This research aims to understand the dynamic of fishermen’s social capital in economic arena. Qualitatively, this study finds dynamic relationship in economic field in blue swimming crab fishermen community of Betahwalang village. Economic action is the actions of individual to maximize profits for themselves. Collaboration in economic field can occur in low level of trust, strong norms and network. In contrast, Sosial capital form different element of capital (i.e. trust, norms and networks) in different sosial situations (i.e. cooperation, competition or conflict).

Abstract

Stigma about HIV-AIDS disease that leads to PLWHA (PeopleLiving with HIV/AIDS), made its own challenges in conductingsocial processes include interaction. Interaction in society not only as in interactions with others, but with family and community is also becoming a force on for PLWHA (People Living with HIV/AIDS) to continue his social life can make. PLWHA (People Living with HIV/ AIDS) shows open attitude in conducting community interaction, though their hearts are always overshadowed by the negative stigma that will lead to them if the community knows it. Concealment of identity and the intermingling of words disguises them in communitygroups is their interaction strategies in strengthening of the existence in the society. The use of symbols in the form of words disguises is valid only for the person who already knows the circumstances of PLWHA (People Living with HIV/AIDS). The disguise of words will not apply when PLWHA (People Living with HIV/AIDS) are dealing directly with the public. Common symbols in society will apply to groups of PLWHA (People Living with HIV/AIDS) as well as when interacting with the community, but the meaning of these symbols will be different when they interact with other PLWHA (People Living with HIV/AIDS) and people who already know it.

Abstract

The role of the NU youth as an extension of the NU kyai was so great in eradicating parties and forbidden ideologies such as the PKI. Based on the basic principles of NahdlatulUlama such as tawasuth, tawazun, i’tidal, and tasamuh, plus a platform for thinking and acting based on the principles of the ushulfiqh and guidance from kyai, NU youths steadfastly declared war with communism. Similarly, when they defend the rights of former Communist activists or those who are considered Communists and their families, they are also based on these principles. For this reason, this paper aims to examine the idealized upheaval of NU youth in addressing the anti-communism discourse.This article was written by critically examining pre-existing scientific texts to expose ideological upheaval among NU youth sociologically. In simple terms, through this article it can be concluded that NU youth based on existing principles have a big contribution in maintaining the integrity of the Republic of Indonesia, starting from the eradication of the PKI, as well as other efforts to defend Indonesia. On the other hand, they also have concern for oppressed groups including former 1965 political prisoners and their families. They were so diligent in fighting for the rights of former political prisoners in 1965 even though in the past they had also suppressed the PKI to its roots. One of the discourses that arose relating to the anti-communism discourse was the discourse of reconciliation between the NU group and Communism. The discourse was responded to differently by NU youth. Some consider it a form of humanism, and there are those who see it as a bad idea, and some even consider it as an extreme step.Peran pemuda NU sebagai kepanjangan tangan dari para kyai NU begitu besar dalam pemberantasan partai dan ideologi terlarang seperti PKI. Dengan berpijak pada prinsip dasar Nahdlatul Ulama seperti tawasuth, tawazun, i’tidal, dan tasamuh, ditambah pijakan berpikir dan bertindak yang didasarkan pada prinsip-prinsip yang ada pada ushul fiqh serta petunjuk dari para kyai, pemuda NU dengan mantap menyatakan perang dengan komunisme. Begitu pula ketika mereka membela hak-hak dari mantan aktivis Komunis atau yang dianggap Komunis dan keluarganya, mereka pun juga berdasar pada prinsip-prinsip tersebut. Untuk itu tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji pergolakan idelogi di kalangan pemuda NU dalam menyikapi wacana anti-komunisme.Artikel ini ditulis dengan menelaah secara kritis teks-teks ilmiah yang telah ada sebelumnya untuk menelanjangi pergolakan ideologi di kalangan pemuda NU secara sosiologis. Secara sederhana, melalui artikel ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa pemuda NU dengan berdasar prinsip yang ada memiliki andil besar dalam mempertahankan keutuhan NKRI, mulai dari pemberantasan PKI, serta upaya-upaya lain dalam mempertahankan Indonesia. Di sisi lain, mereka juga memiliki perhatian terhadap kelompok tertindas termasuk mantan tahanan politik 1965 dan keluarganya. Mereka begitu gigih memperjuangkan hak-hak mantan tahanan politik 1965 meski di masa lalu mereka pula yang memberangus PKI sampai ke akarnya. Salah satu wacana yang mengemuka berkaitan dengan wacana anti-komunisme adalah wacana rekonsiliasi antara golongan NU dan Komunisme. Wacana tersebut ditanggapi berbeda-beda oleh pemuda NU. Ada yang menganggapnya sebagai bentuk sifat humanis, adapula yang melihatnya sebagai gagasan buruk, bahkan ada yang memandang rekonsiliasi tersebut sebagai langkah ekstrim.

Abstract

Every religion has a concept of salvation based on transcendent values of the religion. Islam as a religion of revelation has the concept of salvation based on the messages contained Allah in the Qur’an and Hadith of the Prophet are valid. With reference to the ethical principles of Islam, the doctrine of salvation is the main point ranging in religion, with this principle, people feel the need to claim to believe and submit to the values of the revealed God. A person of faith is essentially aims to achieve safety, both in his life on earth and in the Hereafter. In the Catholic Christian religion also found a number of principles are the same theology that is taught about the importance of safety. In the book of the old covenant and new covenant be emphasized that the safety ranging point in the theology. In Islam and Catholicism, the concept of divinity is the same both believe in Almighty God (monotheism). Both believe that Isa (Jesus) and Muhammad. As the bearer of divine revelation. Although Islam to explain the concept of the deity in various contexts and meanings, while the Catholic meaning of salvation is placed in a variety of different verses, but the meaning remains the same.

Abstract

According to Lewis Mumford, "no one is satisfied with the current form of the city". This paper explains how crises occur in cities. The purpose of this study is to look at the crisis that is happening in urban areas using the method of study of literature. The theory used is the risk society of Ulrich Beck. The crisis that occurred in the city is not merely focus on economic problems, such as poverty, unemployment, homeless people and street children. Urban crises also include security, environmental, energy and social aspects. As for the factors causing the crisis, this paper sees it from an internal and external perspective. Internally, the urban crisis is caused by the developing of the city itself. A city that acts as a market has attracted producers and consumers to come. Producers approach the suburbs to reduce production costs because they are close to markets and human resources. Meanwhile, consumers come to the city because of the larger selection of goods and they also can get the best prices. Developing cities cause industrial estates to no longer be on the outskirts of cities, but many in the city center. Obviously, this causes problems and crises in the middle of a dense urban population. The crisis was also caused by external factors, namely relations with the village. The failure of development in the village caused by the choice of fragmented agricultural land due to the distribution of inheritance and agrarian violations so that land is owned by peasants. These conditions require villagers to urbanize. A city that has developed physically and has a population implicating in slum areas, squatters, green open space crises and low social sensitivity. Menurut Lewis Mumford, “tidak ada satu pun orang  yang puas dengan wujud kota saat ini”. Penulis setuju dengan pernyataan tersebut, sehingga tulisan ini berusaha menjelaskan bagaimana krisis terjadi di perkotaan. Daya tarik kota begitu menghipnotis masyarakat, hal tersebut tidak terlepas dari keberhasilan pembangunan kota. Akan tetapi, di sisi lain kota mengalami yang disebut krisis. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah ini melihat krisis yang terjadi di perkotaan dengan menggunakan metode studi literatur-literatur. Adapun teori yang dipakai adalah masyarakat resiko dari Ulrich Beck. Krisis yang terjadi diperkotaan tidak hanya berbicara terkait masalah ekonomi, misal; kemiskinan, pengangguran, gelandangan dan anak jalanan. Krisis perkotaan juga meliputi krisis  keamanan, lingkungan, energi dan sosial. Adapun faktor penyebab terjadinya krisis, dalam tulisan ini melihatnya pada sudut pandang internal dan eksternal. Pada faktor internal, krisis perkotaan disebabkan oleh kota itu sendiri yang berkembang. Kota yang berperan sebagai market, telah menarik produsen dan konsumen untuk datang. Produsen mendekat ke pinggiran kota untuk memperkecil biaya produksi karena dekat dengan pasar dan SDM. Sedangkan konsumen, datang ke kota karena banyak pilihan barang dan mendapatkan harga terbaik. Kota yang berkembang menyebabkan kawasan industri tidak lagi berada di pinggiran kota, akan tetapi banyak di pusat kota. Tentu ini menyebabkan masalah dan krisis di tengah penduduk kota yang padat. Krisis juga disebabkan oleh faktor eksternal, yakni relasi dengan desa. Kegagalan pembangunan di desa, kepemilihan lahan pertanian yang terfragmentasi akibat pembagian warisan dan pelanggaran-pelanggaran agrarian sehingga tanah dimiliki oleh petani berdasi. Kondisi tersebut menuntut penduduk desa untuk urbanisasi. Kota yang berkembang secara fisik dan jumlah penduduk berimplikasi slum area, penghuni-penghuni liar, krisis ruang terbuka hijau dan rendahnya kepekaan sosial.
THE SOBO PENDOPO DIALOGUE: Manifestation of Deliberation Democracy in Bojonegoro District Galang Geraldy

Abstract

The background of complex socio-economic issues became the lighter of the political revolution of openness and deliberation in Bojonegoro district. The Sobo Pendopo Dialogue, initiated since the election of Kang Yoto-Kang Hartono in the 2008 election, is the start to disseminating the practice of the political revolution of openness. On that basis, the consistency of local democratization during one windu brings world appreciation through Open Government Partnership 2016. Dialogue Sobo Pendopo, in a dialectical discourse of liberal and substantial democracy, breaks down liberal assumptions that include economic and social capital as a prerequisite to the nature of democracy. Departure from that, Dialog Sobo Pendopo in the analysis through exploration theory of deliberation democracy. The concept of political participation, public space and civil society becomes the blueprint for the deliberation context of democracy in Dialog Sobo Pendopo. The research method is qualitative with grounded theory type. The presence of Sobo Dialogue Pendopo which enhances the development of the degree of local democracy, the researchers believe that the public space can transform into a public body, where the institutionalization of civic politics legitimacy really becomes the main base in strengthening the role of civil society.Latar belakang persoalan sosial ekonomi yang kompleks menjadi pemantik revolusi politik keterbukaan dan deliberasi di Kabupaten Bojonegoro. Dialog Sobo Pendopo, yang digagas sejak ketepilihan Kang Yoto-Kang Hartono dalam pilkada tahun 2008 ini, menjadi pintu dalam mendiseminasi praktik revolusi politik keterbukaan. Atas dasar itu, konsistensi demokratisasi lokal selama satu windu membawa apresiasi dunia melalui Open Government Partnership 2016. Dialog Sobo Pendopo, secara dialektika wacana demokrasi liberal dan substansial, mematahkan asumsi-asumsi liberal yang menyertakan modal ekonomi dan sosial sebagai prasyarat menuju hakikat demokrasi. Berangkat dari hal tersebut, Dialog Sobo Pendopo di analisa melalui eksplorasi teori demokrasi deliberative yang diinterpretasi konsep partisipasi politik, ruang publik dan civil society. Metode penelitian adalah kualitatif dengan tipe grounded theory. Kehadiran Dialog Sobo Pendopo yang meningkatkan perkembangan derajat demokrasi lokal, peneliti meyakini ruang publik tersebut dapat bertransformasi menjadi badan publik, dimana kelembagaan legitimasi politik kewargaan benar-benar menjadi basis utama dalam memperkuat peranan civil society.Keyword: The Sobo Pendopo Dialogue, Deliberation Democracy, Bojonegoro District
