Abstract

Syntax, morphology, and phonology can be used as a reference for language classification. This research aims to determine the grammatical alliance of the Simalungun language syntactically and its typology. It is a qualitative study with the typology approach. The data are phrases and clauses of the Simalungun language collected from informants and books – Simalungun language syntax books, by interviews and notes. It found that a transitive verb formulates the intransitive clause of the Simalungun Batak language as a predicate. The predicative verb appears with affixes. In general, the Simalungun language contains verbs that, in their presence, correspond to the subject. Simalungun language has a grammatical alliance system that treats subject (S) the same as agent (A), and a different treatment is given to predicate (P). Based on grammatical relations, the Simalungun language treats S the same as A at the syntactic level. Thus, it can be typologically grouped into syntactical accusatives. Based on the Pivot test, it also belongs to the accusative language group.

As one type of literature, poetry, the unit called a rhyme, is the most unique genre. The uniqueness is due to all forms of expression that stick out in rhyme. In contrary to other literary works such as short stories, novels, or plays, poems written succinctly in the form of stanza and line. Due to the density of the message to be conveyed in such a confined space, then the choice of words and forms of writing that used very unique and complex elements by accentuating of poetic sense. That means, understanding a poem as a form of literary works the same as dealing with the texts of poems that are strung in a poetic language different with language in general. The uniqueness of the language used in the poem appeared on the use of symbols words that are figurative and the use of a distorted form of writing. Deviation form is for example the accentuation of cutting sentences or lines unreasonably, the use of words and sounds are repetitive, the use of words by imitating certain sounds or the use of meaningful associative words excessively. Modern German poetry lies in the harmony of the poetic elements that build a rhyme. Thus the resulting of rhyme and diction values and its imagery is based on how the elements that form the building of rhyme which is coherent and intact. The process of reading poetry in the context of semiotic dialectic is a process of giving meaning to a text of modern poetry through a text search in order to find the code or semiotic signs. Keywords: Puisi Jerman, Modern, Semiotika

Abstract

The nature of language is to express that someone exists, or in other word, expressing the existence. Through the revelation Allah introduces his existence to the creature. It can also be seen from the qudsi hadists  popular among the sufi. It is said that Dawud asked to Allah, why do you create the creature? Allah answered, “I am the hidden hemisphere and I want to be known. For that reason I create the creatures so that I am known”.

Abstract

Light verb constructions (LVCs) are combinations of a verb and a noun that operate as a referee for a distinctive idiomatic-like meaning in which the noun is the central focus of meaning deduction. This study aimed to identify and describe Indonesian LVCs as morphosemantic phenomena. The dataset comprises Indonesian sentences containing featured LVCs. Three corpora were utilized as data sources: Leipzig Corpora Collection – Indonesian (LCCI), SEAlang Library Indonesian Text Corpus (SEAlang), and Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia (KBBI). In this study, a framework from Morphosemantics has been employed to provide the deep analysis technique. The results revealed the following two folds. First, at the morphological level, the Indonesian verb membuat 'make' is a clear indicator of the existence of LVCs. Second, on a semantic level, the verb membuat ‘make’ in Indonesian LVCs tends to produce ACTION type verbs, AGENT paired argument of verbs and RESULTATIVE grammatical meaning. This study suggested that further research be done on the morphosyntactic features of the Indonesian LVCs verb membuat 'make.'

This study is aimed at developing mind mapping strategy to improve the tenth-year students’ writing ability at Madrasah Aliyah (MA) Mambaus Sholihin Gresik and focused on solving the problem of how the students generate and organize ideas for writing a topic. The design of the study is collaborative classroom action research. Both the researcher and his collaborator work together in cyclic activities – planning, implementing, observing and reflecting on the data gained from the teaching and learning process – which runs into three cycles, each of which covers four meetings. The findings show that by implementing mind mapping with the proper model developed, the students’ ability in writing a descriptive text improves. It is indicated by the improvement of the percentage of the students achieving the score greater than or equal to 65 and of the percentage of the students’ involvement in the writing activities during the implementation of mind mapping in the instructional process in Cycle I, II, and III. The improvement of the students’ ability in writing a descriptive text can be reached but it should follow the procedures of the proper model of mind mapping developed.

The findings indicated that the implementation could improve students’ reading readability. This attainment demonstrated that students’ reading readabilityis frosted through the continuity of reading. Other facts showed that students enjoyed reading. Students’ curiosity was also a significant factor. Their high curiosity explained why students continued reading though they realized that materials they read were difficult enough. Students’ self-confidence was also built as they were required to write a retelling story and to share their previous reading. Instead of their retelling and summarizing, students felt to be appreciated as readers. This appreciation indirectly helped students to improve the reading fondness.
