Abstract

UN peacekeeping operations rely on international cooperation to constitute competitive female peacekeepers. Meanwhile, Indonesia is an active contributor to global peace, yet its women peacekeepers dealt with linguistic challenges to participate in peacekeeping missions in French-speaking countries. This article investigates the exhaustive intellectual and physical performances of a policewoman from Banda Aceh to take part in the MINUSCA ( United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic) 2020-2021. This paper aims to illustrate the theory of feminism by using a descriptive qualitative analysis. In UN peacekeeping missions, having female peacekeepers is crucial for ensuring gender-balanced representation. This study describes how the determinism of the female gender through personal commitment, self-engagement, and motivation is as valuable as the male gender. The data are collected via recorded Zoom meetings. The findings revealed the components of French language proficiency for MINUSCA, learning activities, the Indonesian policewoman’s experiences in learning French, and French language teaching andlearning issues that needed to be addressed in Banda Aceh. In addition, this article underlines factual issues on the absence of an official French language academy in Banda Aceh. Addressing those issues will contribute to maximizing Indonesian human resources for global peace.

Abstract

The data were collected from ten BBC news articles published in October 2020. The purposive sampling was used, and the data gathering instrument was structured observation sheets. The gathered data were calculated using percentages. The results showed five sentence patterns used, namely S+V, S+LV+SC, S+V+O, S+V+DO+OC, and S+V+IO+DO. Abstract

This study endeavors to meticulously assess the efficacy of a straightforward intervention in Arabic for a person with Down Syndrome. The research focuses on a specific subject denoted as MS, representing children with Down Syndrome possessing an extremely low IQ. The subject is perceived as incapable of executing cognitive tasks, including acquiring linguistic capabilities. Through a qualitative approach, this research integrates methods such as observation, interviews, and expert assessments conducted by psychologists to oversee the intervention process. Data collection encompasses the researcher's observational records, interviews, and pertinent documentation. A descriptive analysis methodology is employed for data analysis and presentation. The study reveals discernible enhancements in MS's Arabic pronunciation following the phonetic articulation intervention. Initially, MS could only pronounce the letters Alif, Ta, Jim, Ha, Dal, Za, Sin, Shod, Tho, 'Ain, Fa, Kaf, Lam, Mim, Nun, Ya, Wawu, Hha, Hamzah, but later, MS can also articulate Ba, Tsa, Kho, Dzal, Ro, Syin, Dlod, Dzo, Ghin, Qof, Yak. Throughout the investigation, recurrent challenges manifested as MS encountered difficulties, such as experiencing headaches and multiple crossed eyes in articulating specific phonemes and words during the initial phases of Arabic language acquisition.

Abstract

The language of the Quran raises specified senses to its readers, such as sense of peacefulness and serenity. Even though the readers read it repeatedly, they or their listeners have never been bored. Furthermore, they can feel the beauty of the holy verses recitation. Because of that, the writer examines the beauty of 30th juz of the Quran in Indonesian by studying the use of tropes. The study focuses on the tropes because they imply a politeness and a beauty of language. This study uses stylistics theory and structural method to analyze the data. In collecting data, the writer notes its verses. The result of study shows that the Quran uses parallelism, imagery, metaphor, euphemism, repetition, personification, tautology, antithesis, antonomasia, rhetorical, and enumeration. Moreover, the writer finds that the most numerous type of trope is parallelism. From the 37 surahs of the 30th juz, 36 surahs contain the tropes. There is only Surah Al-Qadr that does not use the tropes.

Abstract

Up to the end of the twentieth century, Arabic and English have played an important role as the media for communication all over the world.  Both languages are significantly used in not only national but also global scopes. Millions of people in the world today use either passive or active Arabic and/or English in their daily lives. The question is,’ will the global community in the 21st century still put these international languages in a position as important as it is today?’  Trends in the use of languages in the world can be viewed from several different aspects, among which are the economic strength of a language and the demography of language  users. Although so far there has been no fixed agreement on the criteria of a language to be called as “the world language” yet, there is a tendency that by mid 21st  century there will be trends in the world’s language domination and hierarchy. The trends will also involve the global use of Arabic and English. The two languages are predicted to still have an essential position as the world’s major languages and therefore will be used globally.  The use of Arabic and English is strongly predicted to undergo a transition in a positive way. In addition to that, it is not impossible that by mid 21st century, there will be a tendency of bilingual education (using foreign languages in presenting non-linguistic school subjects) spreading in the world’s urban areas, including those areas in Indonesia.
