Abstract

This study aims to map the communication competency research in 2009-2022. This study uses a systematic literature review with the keyword communication competence in the publish or perish application from the Scopus database for 2009-2022. Then, the articles were analyzed using Mendeley and Vosviewer. The results of the analysis found that the 2009-2022 communication competency research tends to be divided into two major groups, namely:  intercultural communication competence and communication competence. In addition, the development of communication competency research moved from  psychology and culture become the health and education. It were influenced by developments in communication and information technology.

Abstract

The removal of the mural as a critical message in the Instagram account prompted a critical community @gejayanmemanggil to hold a Lomba Mural Dibungkam. The purpose of this article is to provide a vital explanation of the form of resistance that causes the act of silencing freedom of opinion as well as the disclosure of motives in constructing a message about resistance. The method uses Van Dijk's critical discourse model with text, social cognition, and context dimensions. The results found that the form of resistance was carried out directly, indirectly, and virtually through social media and made the message viral.

Abstract

Technological advancements have impacted education, influencing student behavior across different eras—1990s, 2000s, and today. This survey-based research uses conventional sampling techniques and supports the theory of technological determinism, showing how communication technology affects behavior, thought patterns, and social interactions. Face-to-face communication has largely been replaced by online interactions. The study finds that chatting remains a common activity while waiting for lecturers, and highlights a decline in reading habits. Instead, frequent use of mobile phone has become prevalent. The research underscores how technology reshapes both learning environments and student habits.

Abstract

Advertisement can be used to campaign on social issues, such as the IKEA’s product campaign on the issue of equality for the LGBT community viewed negatively by the people. This article aims to identify the IKEA attempts to change people's perspective through visual communication. This research uses the theory of structuration and Saussure's semiotic method to interpret signs based on signifiers and signifieds. As a result, the social change represented by IKEA with the theme of equality in American history is a donation communication strategy for the LGBT community, that is vulnerable to suicide, by considering local views and culture.

Abstract

This research aims to present a comprehensive bibliometric literature evaluation related to research topics that have relevance to political candidate image building during 2000-2023 and the future research of political candidate image building. Data materials were obtained from Google Scholar by filtering 303 articles from 994 data that were successfully recompiled. Data downloading was carried out on January 10th, 2023. The research method was bibliometric. Data was downloaded through the PoP (Publish or Perish) version 8 application. For future research, topics related to globalization, Twitter, blogs, and rhetoric have opportunities to be developed in contemporary political communication studies.

Abstract

This study examines Instagram Reels' potential as a strategic digital tool for B2B marketing objectives, addressing the under-researched application of short-form video platforms in organizational contexts. The research synthesizes contemporary literature on B2B marketing frameworks and Instagram's dynamic feature evolution through qualitative narrative methodology. Findings identify optimal content strategies, including brand narrative development, educational dissemination, cultural demonstration, and product teasers that align with B2B commercial imperatives. The analysis establishes Reels' capacity to enhance brand visibility, audience engagement, and market positioning while proposing actionable methodologies for integrating ephemeral video content into omnichannel marketing architectures.

Abstract

Some Indonesian media outlets that produce sex education videos exploit sexuality to attract viewers instead. This research aims to identify the sexual commodification and non-marital sex normalization in "USS Feed–#SEXED". The research uses van Dijk’s critical discourse analysis. Data collection techniques include documentation, observation, and intertextual literature. The result shows sexploitation is manifested through the objectification of sexuality through female respondents' sexual experiences and the exploitation of erotic fantasies through demonstrations of sex equipment. Meanwhile, the normalization of non-marital sex discourse can be seen in the normalization construction of consent-based sex and safe sex by only using condoms.

Abstract

This article explains the democratic culture of civil society of Manggarai on social media based on a case study in the Facebook group Manggarai Bebas Berpendapat. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The result shows that political participation in the group is manifested in the form of information provision, discursive deliberation and contestation, and efforts to influence public policy. Discursive deliberation and contestation appear in the form of user-generated framing wars, symbolic discursive deliberation and contestation, and sentimentality. In general, the democratic culture of Manggarai civil society on social media is dominated by a posttruth democratic culture.

Abstract

This research describes the social, economic, and political factors in the digital media ecosystem, which cause the normalization of flexploitation practices among journalists in Yogyakarta. This phenomenological research uses literature study, observation, and in-depth interviews to collect primary data. The findings of this research show that the schemes of news organizations in Yogyakarta are still slow in adapting to the technological revolution, the illusion of increasing flexibility, and the impact of the New Order era. There needs to be government intervention, the Press Council, and collaboration between journalist organizations, labor unions, and educational institutions as mitigation efforts.

Abstract

The Mobile Augmented Reality (MAR) application is a marketing innovation that enhances consumer experiences by enabling virtual product trials despite distance and time constraints. This study examines the impact of MAR on purchase intention through perceived enjoyment and usefulness. Data were collected via online questionnaires using purposive and snowball sampling methods and analyzed using SmartPLS. Results indicate that virtual presence and devices influence enjoyment and usefulness directly and indirectly in shaping purchase intentions. Moreover, enjoyment and usefulness are found to have a positive effect on purchase intentions.
