Abstract

Abstract. Javanese language is highly praised for its cultural values deeplyrooted in the structure and communicative usage of the language itself. Thevariation of krama in Javanese language reflects the wisdom of its society tohonor and respect other people in a communication. Unfortunately, the languageshift phenomenon seems unavoidable along with the major development in theglobal world. This research conveys the position of Javanese language among theyoungsters’ communication choices. This is a case study conducted in two areasnamely Desa Randegan and Dusun Tutul. The research shows that the use of Kramahas significantly shifted to Bahasa Indonesia due to children’s billinguality,the advance in media and technology, and inability of the learning process atschools to accommodate the communicative use of bahasa Jawa. Keywords: krama, language shift.

Abstract

Abstract. Tulisan inimembahas satu dari sekian banyak isu TEFL (Teaching English as a ForeignLanguage) yaitu isu tentang faktor-faktor yang menyebabkan sulitnya pemahamanteks dari bacaan berbahasa asing (L2). Diperkirakan ada 2 penyebab sulitnyapemahaman teks dari bacaan L2 tersebut, yakni faktor bahasa dan faktor sosialbudaya. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan phenomenology dan grounded theoryuntuk melihat dan membuktikan bahwa 2 faktor tersebut menyebabkan sulitnyapemahaman teks L2 bagi pembelajar L2. Untuk membuktikan faktor penyebabpertama, yaitu faktor bahasa, penelitian dilakukan dengan mengamati kurangnyapengetahuan pembelajar terhadap grammar L2 dan perbendaharaan kata L2. Sementara itu, schema theory digunakan untukmelihat faktor penyebab kedua, yakni faktor sosial budaya. Hasil penelitianmenunjukkan bahwa sulitnya pemahaman teks L2 ternyata tidak hanya disebabkankarena kurangnya pengetahuan bahasa, akan tetapi latar belakang pengetahuansosial dan budaya L2 dari pembelajar L2 juga menentukan mudah tidaknyapemahamannya terhadap teks L2.  Kata-kata kunci: text difficulty, background knowledge,content schemata, formal schemata, cultural schemata

Abstract

Abstract. This study comes from the background ofthe need to increase the students’ active participation in learning discussionat Indonesian language subject, so that there are no more students who arepassive (only being the audience) and there are no more students who dominatethe discussion activity. The subject of the study is the eleventh gradestudents of Multimedia study program which is called MMD in this study in2012/2013 academic year. “KB Bersyarat” learning method (Conditioned SpeakingCard) is a learning method which uses learning cards with special conditions.These conditions enable students to have balanced situation in speaking. It isadapted the learning model so-called Time Token Arend 1997. In fact, by usingthis method, there is the increasing of the number of students who becomeactively participating in speaking, whether in questioning and or deliveringtheir opinions during the discussion in the class. Meanwhile, before using thismethod, there are only 36,47% of 36 students being active in the classicaldiscussion class. And then, the number of active students increases to57,32%  at the first cycle of this method(KB Bersyarat, in groups). Fortunately, the number of active students issignificantly increasing to 86,50% at the second cycle of this method (KBBersyarat, individual work). Keywords: Balancedsituation in speaking, “KB Bersyarat” learning method.

Abstract. Meninggalkan metode ‘grammartranslation’ bukan berarti menghindari terjemah dalam pempelajaran di kelas.Kenyataan bahwa penggunaan bahasa lokal dalam pergaulan sehari-hari  (Madura dan Jawa) di lingkungan sekolah mempengaruhikeberhasilan pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris, terjemah langsung berdasarkan  equivalensi menjadi sangat penting. Olehkarena itu, aspek  lexico-cultural perludipertimbangkan dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini akanmerefleksi penggunaan equivalensi bahasa Inggris dengan bahasa lokal sepertipenggunaan frase dan bentuk-bentuk ‘chunks’ serta dampak dari penggunaanequivalensi Bahasa Inggris dengan bahasa lokal terhadap sikap siswa terhadapBahasa Inggris. 120 siswa kelas VII berpartisipasi dalam penelitian ini. Hasilpenelitian menunjukkan bahwa beberapa unit leksikal digunakan untukmenjembatani kesenjangan ’ lexico-cultural’. Dalam penelitian ini juga  ditemukan bahwa rasa percaya diri siswameningkat sehingga mendorong siswa untuk menggunakan Bahasa Inggris di luarkelas melalui ‘code-mixing’ dengan nyaman. .  Key Words: Lexico-Cultural, Equivalence,translation,  attitude

Abstract

Abstrak. Almost a half of students of IX A classwere not able to develop ideas, thoughts, feelings, and information in the formof a review of science book. Most of them were having difficulties in writingsequentially. Students were even had no idea to write. They ended their writingwith two or three sentences as they were afraid of making mistakes and feltdoubtful. They also produced ambigous main ideas. The tacle these problems,“Baku Simpul Berbintang” is applied. It is an acronym for “membaca, diskusi, presentasi,kesimpulan, dan berburu bintang” (reading, discussion, presentation,conclusion, and hunting for stars). The purpose of this study is to developstudents’ learning acheivement of writing science book review through thestrategy used. It is expected that through the used strategy, students are moremotivated, creative, and have high enthusiasm in learning as the strategyemploys enjoyfull activity therefore in the last improving students scores.This study uses Classroom action resarch tmethod of research which is done intwo cycles. In the first cycle it is shown that 58 % percent of the students(21 students) obtain scores of above 77 meanwhile 42% (15 students) obtain lessthan score 77. This result is still considered underachieved so the cycle isrepeated in the second run. In this cycle 90 % of the total students obtainscore 77 and above, and only 10% (4 students) did not obtain the standard.  On the basis of this result, the study showsthat there is a significant improvement of students’ learning achievement forboth personal and classical improvement. It can be concluded that “Baku SampulBerbintang” can help to improve students’ skill and competence in writingscience book review.  Kata Kunci: menulis resensi, bakusimpul berbintang

Abstract

Abstract. Chemical equilibrium is one of the materials studiedin class XI odd semester at SMK 5 Jember. To study this material, ideallystudents have to know  the concept of"molarity" which has been studied before, so in  learning material "ChemicalEquilibrium" students will more quickly understand  the concept not merely hear and record whatthe teacher discussed in class making them remain not understand the subjectmatter. The other problem is when they were asked to work on the exercises inthe classroom, they did not want to, they just waited for the results of thediscussion notes on the board. This made students learnt less meaningful as theparticipation of students in learning was low. Student-oriented learningmodel,"JIGSAW", was done by dividing the students into groups of peer tutoring. After  discussing questions, a representative groupbecame tutor in classical class. Students who become tutors were required tothink ahead at a higher level to understand the essence of the subject matterso as to better understand / master the concepts of the subject matter. The scoreobtained by the tutor of each group becomes the group’s score. It aims atincreasing the sense of belonging among the members of the group. After usingJigsaw strategy there is an increase of the students’ average score of 68.81into 73.65. Abstract

Abstract. Each learningactivities undertaken by teachers and students have a goal to achieve a passinggrade. In the school year 2010/2011 students who have not achieved masterylearning reaches 40%. Ideally in learning activities in the classroom masterylearning are achieved by 80%. Therefore, classroom action research wasconducted through two cycles, each cycle consisting of a plan stages, action inthe form of distribution activities and discussion groups, then performedobservations and the results will be a reflection for the next cycle. Jigsaw steam of experts model can improve students understanding on the matter ofinternational trade. This is indicated by the teacher performance appraisal of62.5%, the average student value of 83.33%. In the second cycle the value ofteachers performance by 93.75% with an average value of 93.75%. The testresults of students in the first cycle by an average of 68.06 and at 80.56 onthe second cycle. Researchers recommend to other researchers to develop a modelof instructional strategies Jigsaw s team of experts to be combined with otherlearning approaches. Kata kunci : understanding of the material, the modeljigsaw expert team

Abstract

Abstrak. penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membahas kesulitan-kesulitanyang dihadapi oleh para mahasiswa semester pertama FKIP Bahasa InggrisUniversitas Jember dalam menulis komposisi bahasa Inggris di dalam kelas.subyek penelitian ini adalah 37 mahasiswa Writing 1. Data diambil dari tugasakhir yang berupa paragraf yang berisi permasalahan mahasiswa yang palingmenyulitkan ketika mereka menulis dalam bahasa Inggris. Hasil penelitian inipula dipakai sebagai refleksi pembelajaran bagi guru selama satu semesterpembelajaran writing 1. Berdasarkan hasil analisa dari paragraph yang ditulismahasiswa didapatkan enam jenis permasalahan paling pokok yang dirasa sangatmenyulitkan bagi mahasiswa ketika menulis bahsa Inggris. Kosakata (vovabulary),struktur bahasa Inggris (grammar), ide pokok (main idea),  isi (content), organisasi ide (organization),dan permasalahan psikologi penulis (writer’s block) adalah enam hal yang dirasamahasiswa sangat menyulitkan mereka dalam proses menulis. Dengan mengetahuipermasalahan yang dihadapi oleh mahasiswa dapat memberikan input yang sangatberguna bagi guru dalam mempersiapkan materi pembelajaran pada pembelajaranberikutnya sekaligus dapat membantu para mahasiswa meningkatkan kemampuanmenulis mereka. Kata kunci: permasalahan menulis, paragraf,mahasiswa baru, persepsi siswa,

Abstract

Abstrak. Mata pelajaran bahasa daerahdi tingkat SD sangat penting dalam tingkat awal pengenalan bahasa daerahsebagai budaya bangsa pada pendidikan formal sekaligus dapat menjadi saranadalam kehidupan bermasyarakat yaitu untuk komunikasi dan etika sopan santundalam bermasyarakat. Menurut kurikulum DEPDIKNAS bahasa daerah berfungsi untuk mengembangkankemampuan bernalar, berkomunikasi dan mengungkapkan pikiran atau perasaan sertamelestarikan aset nasional di daerah. Abstract

Abstract. Penerapan pembelajaran modelportopolio pada Metodologi Penelitian merupakan salah satu metode yang bisamemberikan sumbangan keberhasilan untuk mentransformasi ilmu pengetahuan, sebabpada metode ini langkah-langkah yang dilakukan menuntut mahasiswa lebih aktifbelajar. Disisi lain Metodologi Penelitian dalam mempelajarinya harus banyakmelakukan praktek, berlatih mengaplikasikan teori-teori yang diperoleh padakehidupan nyata sehingga diperlukan keseriusan untuk berfikir secara kritis,cermat dan akurat dalam dalam mengaplikasikan. Dosen dalam menerapkan modelpembelajaran portofolio harus mampu memposisikan mahasiswa sebagai insan yangharus dihargai kemampuannya dan diberi kesempatan untuk mengembangkanpotensinya, factor lain yang perlu diperhatikan oleh dosen adalah bisamenciptakan suasana perkuliahan yang tidak membosankan, sehingga motivasimahasiswa bangkit untuk belajar lebih giat. Key Words : Penerapan PembelajaranPortofolio, Pemahaman Metodologi Penelitian
