Abstract

The use of the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) handbook requires family support, but the utilization of the MCH Handbook by the family is still low. The objectives of this research are to know the extent MCH Handbook used by the family and the factors related to it. This is an explanatory research with a cross-sectional design. The study sample is the total population in Kemawi Village, which is 60 families who have pregnant woman or baby or toddler. The results of rank-spearman correlation showed that there is a strong and positive relation between knowledge with the use of MCH Handbook (rs = 0.571, p = 0.0001) and between attitude and the use of MCH Handbook (rs = 0.468, p = 0.0001). Multivariate analysis with binary logistic regression showed that the knowledge (OR =4.9) and attitude (OR=11.9) variables had a significant influence  together on the use of the MCH handbook with probability is 74.3% . It is suggested to village midwives to increase counseling to the community about MCH Handbook related to mother’s health in the postpartum period, especially regarding family attitudes towards the MCH Handbook.

Abstract

Infectious diseases (diarrhea) that repeatedly cause children’s health to increase in the pattern of children’s appetite which can lead to less nutritional status of children. This study was to analyze the relationship between the incidence of stunting and the frequency and duration of diarrhea in children under  five in the Kenjeran Health Center Surabaya Working Area. Analytical research design with cross sectional design in 4 villages in Kenjeran Health Center. Data retrieval is done by questionnaire sheet and observation using microtoise, sample technique uses Sampling Probability by using Stratified Random Sampling as many as 152 children. Data were analyzed using the Spearmen Rho statistical test. The results of research on children under five who experience the incidence of stunting with the frequency and duration of diarrheal disease indicate children who experience stunting and longer frequency. The Rho Spearmen Test showed differences in the incidence of stunting with the frequency of diarrhea p = 0.005 (p<α = 0.05), duration of diarrhea p = 0.003 (p<α = 0.05). The implication of this study is that stunting is related to the frequency and duration of diarrheal diseases, so that posyandu activities can add counseling about children’s health that requires the treatment of diarrhea in children under five in the Kenjeran Health Center Surabaya

Abstract

The elderly and their caregivers are at higher risk from Coronavirus Disease-2019, particularly for elderly with chronic health conditions. To prevent the transmission of the virus, those elderly issued strict physical distance, restricting most interactions between the elderly and their caregivers. On the other side, caregivers can serve as crucial and trusted partners in the elderly’s care to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Hence, this study aims to analyze the knowledge, attitudes, practices (KAP), and the role of caregivers in providing services to the elderly during the outbreaks. A descriptive quantitative study was conducted from May to June 2020. The survey was utilizing Google Forms in four cities in Indonesia. A total of 317 out of 400 participants had completed the survey. The knowledge of the COVID-19 score was 79.50%, attitude 92.11%, and practice 90.54%. The caregivers’ role in protecting the elderly from COVID’s infection was about 98.42%. They could continue their routine activities during physical distancing 84.54%, treated elderly by not going to the hospital (60.04%), not visited any crowded place, wore masks and washed their hand after activity (87.38%). They agreed that government would finally successfully control COVID-19 (90.22%). This study concluded that the knowledge, attitude, practice and role of caregivers on COVID-19 effectively prevents the caregivers neglecting the elderly during the COVID-19 outbreak. Future information on elderly care need to consider not just the risks of the virus, but also the healthy lifestyle.

Abstract

Several studies have shown that there is an increase in bilirubin levels, leukocytes, and blood pressure in acute phase strokes. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between liver function levels, leucocytes, and blood pressure with the functional outcome of acute stroke. The method was a cross-sectional study with a sample size of 30 people who were selected by consecutive non-random sampling method, clinically proven acute stroke patients, and computed tomography (CT) scan. They were studied at the General Hospital of the Adam Malik Center. Demographic data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results showed that all subjects did not differ in terms of demographic characteristics. This study concluds that there is no relation between liver function (total bilirubin, direct bilirubin, indirect bilirubin, serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase [AST], serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase [SGPT], alkaline phosphatase [ALP]), leukocytes, and blood pressure with acute stroke functional outcome. The functional outcome in acute hemorrhagic stroke is worse than acute ischemic stroke. Higher levels of liver function, leucocytes, and blood pressure were found in patients with the worse functional outcome though not significantly associated.

Abstract

In Indonesia drug in adolescents shows a number that tends to be high. This phenomenon is certainly an indication that there are character problems in children and adolescents in Indonesia, which certainly cannot be separated from the role of parents. In this case the function of parents and government support is needed in an effort to handle the use of drugs in teenagers in Indonesia. The results showed that the majority of adolescents who used drugs were more in adolescents who had heads of households with low education and had families with a low wealth index, were in whole families, and more in adolescents who lived in rural areas. Teenage boys tend to use drugs more than girls. Teenagers who use drugs have more characteristics of the 20-24 year age group,  low education and are not working. The factors that significantly affect the use of drug use among adolescents include socio-cultural functions, place of residence, adolescence, adolescent sex, work status, adolescent access to PIK-R programs, and knowledge of the impact of drugs.

Abstract

Prolonged MDR-TB therapy can have side effects, namely a correlation between cure rates and changes in bacterial profiles related to resistance to anti-tuberculosis drugs (ATD) which can affect the incidence rate of MTB and MDR-TB in a region. The research objective was to analyze the effectiveness of the type of ATD against the resistance level of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) isolates with the incidence of tuberculosis (TB) and MDR-TB. The research method used was a retrospective cohort based on tracing medical record data at the Surakarta City Center General Hospital 2016 until 2017 with total sampling. The independent variable of this study was the type of ATD, while the dependent variable was the resistance level of MTB isolates. The characteristics of the most patient respondent suspect TB were male with the level of resistance of MTB isolates to ATD relatively varied. The results of the analysis of different tests showed a p value of 0.000 so that the p value was <0.05, so there was an effect of the type of ATD (Strepttomycin, Isoniazid, Rifampicin and Ethambutol) on the resistance of TB isolates from patients with suspected TB. This is useful to determine the success of TB therapy in terms of mortality and the effectiveness of therapy in TB patients.
