Abstract

Family resilience programs are intended to support families facing psychosocial and structural challenges. However, limited studies have examined how policy interpretations and everyday guidance practices reproduce social inequality within programs for single parentfamilies. This study explores these dynamics using a qualitative Knowledge–Attitude–Practice (KAP) framework. A qualitative descriptive design was employed involving 59 purposively selected informants, including policy stakeholders, Motekar facilitators, community cadres, single parents, and children from single parenthouseholds. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and document analysis and analyzed thematically across KAP dimensions. The findings reveal a persistent policy–practice–experience misalignment. Policy actors tended to frame family resilience through administrative perspectives that were weakly connected to families’ lived realities, while guidance practices remained standardized and insufficiently responsive to psychosocial vulnerability and everyday survival challenges. This study contributes to family resilience research by demonstrating how social inequality is reproduced through misaligned knowledge, attitudes, and practices within community-based interventions. The findings emphasize the need for more context-sensitive and relational approaches that meaningfully incorporate the experiences of single parentfamilies and children.

Abstract

The phenomenon of arranged marriages in the Dieng Plateau is still a common practice that has been passed down from generation to generation. This study aims to analyze the practice of arranged marriages and their impact on family harmony from the perspective of Islamic Family Guidance and Counseling. The research method used is a qualitative approach with a case study method, involving arranged marriage couples, community leaders, families, and KUA officials as primary informants. The research findings indicate that the practice of arranged marriage has shifted from an authoritative pattern to a more participatory form. However, challenges such as ineffective communication, emotional unpreparedness, and pressure from extended families remain major issues. A systemic and culturally responsive approach to Islamic Family Counseling is needed as a pre-marriage and post-marriage intervention to strengthen family harmony. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for the development of adaptive family counseling services rooted in Islamic values.

Abstract

Adolescent smoking behavior is a significant public health and psychosocial problem influenced by self-efficacy, peer influence, social norms, and school environment. Conventional educational approaches tend to increase knowledge but are less effective in producing sustained behavioral change. This study aims to synthesize evidence on the effectiveness of social dynamics-based group counseling in changing students’ smoking behavior. This study employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) based on PRISMA 2020 guidelines using Scopus-indexed articles published between 2019 and 2026. A total of 36 studies were included, consisting of 17 direct intervention studies and 19 supporting studies on psychosocial mechanisms. Data were analyzed using narrative and thematic synthesis. Findings indicate five key domains influencing effectiveness: self-efficacy, anti-smoking social norms, peer social support, peer-led interventions, and implementation fidelity. Group-based and peer-led interventions show stronger effects on smoking cessation intentions, social norm formation, and resistance to peer pressure compared to one-way education and media campaigns. However, long-term behavioral change remains inconsistent and is influenced by school context, program quality, and follow-up duration. This study highlights that social dynamics-based group counseling has potential as a school preventive strategy through strengthening self-efficacy, social norms, and peer support. Further longitudinal and experimental studies are required to confirm long-term effectiveness.

Abstract

Sexual violence in adolescents is a complex problem that requires a systematic and integrated prevention strategy in the school environment. This research aims to synthesize how Guidance and Counseling services can be conceptualized as a system for preventing sexual violence in adolescents. The study used a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) design with reporting referring to PRISMA on articles identified through the Scopus database. The core empirical synthesis is based on 16 primary studies, while conceptual sources are used in a limited way to support the theoretical framework. The results of the synthesis identified five main domains, namely school-based interventions, Comprehensive Sexuality Education, social norm change and bystander strengthening, inclusive approaches for vulnerable groups, and risk screening and cross-agency collaboration. Key supporting factors include attitude, self-efficacy, social support, school climate, and safe access to services. The most consistent evidence was found on improved knowledge, attitudes, awareness, and self-efficacy, while evidence of long-term behavior change was limited. This study proposes an integrative Guidance and Counseling model as a school-based prevention system that connects primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention and provides a conceptual basis for the development of sexual violence prevention services in schools.

Abstract

Psychological well-being is the basic quality of life of an individual that is theoretically correlated with the spiritual dimension and religious orientation. This study aims to examine the influence of spirituality on subjective well-being by positioning religious moderation as a moderator variable in the context of a pluralistic society. Using a quantitative correlational design, data were collected from 39 respondents from Klepu Village, Ponorogo, through a purposive sampling technique. The research instruments included the subjective well-being scale, spirituality, and religious moderation, which were analyzed using Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) with a bootstrapping technique to ensure statistical robustness. The results of the analysis indicate that spirituality has a positive effect on subjective well-being. However, religious moderation was not proven to significantly moderate the relationship. These empirical findings are discussed comprehensively by integrating the historical-sociological context of the plurality of Klepu Village, which states that moderate attitudes have become a cultural norm. This study offers practical implications for Islamic guidance and counseling services, particularly in the development of intervention modules that are sensitive to the local religious context.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of cultural humility (CH) and multicultural competence (MC) in shaping school counselors’ social justice advocacy (SJA) practice in Indonesia. This review is motivated by the high potential for intolerance, discrimination, and ideological bias in school settings (Setara Institute, 2023). The study employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method through searches in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC, and PsycINFO, yielding 302 articles. After screening based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria for the years 2015–2025 by two independent reviewers (Cohen’s Kappa = 0.85 and 0.82), 25 articles were selected for analysis. Quality assessment was conducted using the JBI and CASP Checklists (threshold ≥70%), while data synthesis was carried out through open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. The search did not identify any review that simultaneously integrated CH, MC, and SJA within the context of school counselors. The findings indicate that MC serves as the foundation of multicultural knowledge and skills. However, without cultural humility, competence tends to be procedural, whereas CH functions as a reflective dimension that strengthens its implementation. The literature also indicates a relationship between MC–CH integration and SJA practice, although the direction of causality cannot yet be determined. Nineteen of the 25 studies showed that the integration of these two aspects was associated with higher advocacy engagement. These findings may serve as a basis for counselor curriculum development through reflective learning, advocacy simulations, and field practice while considering the Indonesian context. The proposed integrative model remains conceptual and requires further testing through SEM, mediation analysis, or meta-analysis

Abstract

The dissolution of a romantic relationship is a significant emotional experience for young adults and may affect self-acceptance, particularly in collectivistic cultural contexts such as Indonesia, where self-acceptance is often associated with social acceptance. Expressive writing is known to support the process of self-acceptance; however, its integration with Islamic spiritual values remains limited and requires scientific evidence. This study aimed to examine the effect of Quran Journaling on improving self-acceptance among Muslim young adults aged 18,40 years following the dissolution of a romantic relationship. This study employed a quantitative quasi-experimental approach using a one-group pretest, posttest design. The study was conducted online through Zoom and WhatsApp groups. The Quran Journaling intervention was carried out over a one-month period and consisted of four 60-minute sessions. The instrument used in this study was the Self-Acceptance Scale (α = .93). The results showed an increase in self-acceptance scores before and after the intervention (t = 3.459, p < .01), with a Cohen's d effect size of 0.410, based on 30 participants (29 women and 1 man). However, this study was limited by the absence of a control group. Therefore, future researchers may use a control-group design to ensure that the findings are not influenced by maturation effects. The findings of this study may be beneficial for Muslim counselors and psychologists who wish to incorporate Quran Journaling into counseling or therapy sessions, with opportunities for further development of the intervention.

Abstract

Adolescence is a crucial phase in identity formation; however, it is often accompanied by identity crises that trigger anxiety, low learning motivation, and difficulties in social relationships. This study aims to develop flash cards as a valid and practical tool to support Guidance and Counseling services, with the goal of enhancing self-exploration and fostering identity commitment among high school students. The method used was Research and Development (R&D) based on the Borg and Gall model, limited to the seventh stage (Product Revision II). The data collection instruments included interviews, a student needs questionnaire, and a media acceptability questionnaire for validation testing. The data were analyzed using the Percentage of Agreement technique. The results showed that the developed flash card media achieved an average validation score of 94.67%, categorized as “Highly Suitable.” Specifically, the assessment results from subject matter experts reached 95.61%, media experts 95.55%, and prospective users 92.85%. These flash cards meet the qualifications for implementation in schools as an interactive innovation in Guidance and Counseling services to help students overcome identity crises in accordance with their psychosocial developmental stages.

Abstract

Learning motivation is an important factor in determining the success of the learning process. However, various challenges have led to a decline in learning motivation, which in turn affectsthe quality of learning, especially at the senior high school level. A report indicates that Indonesia is experiencing learning loss, characterized by a decline in students' learning motivation and academic achievement. Interviews conducted at SMAN 1 Kepohbaru revealed that students' learning motivation is not yet optimal, as reflected in a lack of responsibility for learning, limited readiness to learn, and enthusiasm for learning that is influenced by peers. Guidance and counselling services still focus on individual counselling and have not yet utilized learning media as a means of delivering services. This study aims to develop domino cards as a medium to enhance students' learning motivation through positive peer conformity, as well as to assess the feasibility of domino cards in optimizing students' learning motivation in guidance and counselling services. This study applies a Research and Development (R&D) approach adapted from the Borg and Gall model. The subjects of this study were 60 eleventh- grade students at SMAN 1 Kepohbaru. The results indicate that the developed media obtained a feasibility score of 93.36% which falls into the “very good” category, indicating that it is appropriate for use in guidance and counselling services.

Abstract

Abstract: The changing family structure in Indonesia with the increasing number of broken homes has an impact on the lives and futures of adolescents, including in determining their career paths. This study aims to describe the Adversity Quotients of students from broken homes in facing pressure, the support they receive, and how they survive and move forward. The research was conducted at a vocational school in Nanggulan District using a qualitative approach and phenomenological method. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of the study show that for students from broken homes, Adversity Quotient means trying to get back up, staying motivated to go to school, and not giving up even without the support of a complete family. They are driven by a desire for independence, a sense of responsibility, and a drive to change their fate. Support from teachers, friends, and extended family provides additional strength. The strategies used include focusing on completing school, seeking work experience, and taking steps towards independence.
