Abstract

The ghasab (taking or using someone's belonging without permission) phenomenon in pesantren has become the 'dark side' amidst its image as a center of religious education (taffaquh fiddin). It may not only affect the mental and personality development of santri, but also damage the image of the pesantren. This study aimed to investigate the practice of ghasab in pesantren and explore how moral conflicts in moral judgment occur in santri. This study was conducted at two traditional pesantrens in Semarang and incorporated descriptive qualitative methods. The data were collected through in-depth interviews and observation. The finding indicated that pesantren's communal life system brought consequences for the practice of ghasab among santri. However, it cannot be generalized as a common culture in all pesantren. It was also found that this phenomenon was influenced by internal and external factors of pesantren environment and had the potential to cause value conflicts that affected the moral judgment of santri. Therefore, the commitment of pesantren management is needed to reaffirm its mission as a center for building religious student characters who have integrity.

Abstract

The study aimed to develop an instrument of Fikih assessment in Madrasah Aliyah (MA) that has good construct validity and at estimating the reliability of the Fikih assessment instrument in MA. This study used Research and Development (R D) Method. The subjects in this study were the students in MAN Cilacap, MAN Banyumas, and MAN Purbalingga. This study found, first, that the instrument of Fikih assessment in the Regency of Cilacap, Banyumas, and Purbalingga has not met its standards as a measurement tool. Second, the development of the Fikih instrument in the MA has used observable variables by conducting a theoretical review of the Fikih learning materials in Grade XI of Senior High School from the 2013 Curriculum. So, the researcher formulated the Fikih Instrument Items and conducted a qualitative analysis with the assistance of the Fikih experts and Evaluation and Assessment experts. Indicators with 30 items have been equal to 0.976, which means that the nine indicators of the Fikih assessment instrument provide reliable estimates for the latent variables of the Fikih instrument.

Abstract

The discourse on re-establishing the caliphate as a constitutional system has generated controversy. Such controversy has also penetrated the education context, including Islamic education. The research results indicated that the religious teachers' understanding of the caliphate has various thoughts. This difference will affect the learning method and students' understanding. In general, this variety of understanding can be categorized into three groups. First, the semi-group supports the caliphate, believing it will be established if each citizen improves their understanding of monotheism. The second is a neutral group. They stated that the implementation of the caliphate system had been practiced by socio-religious organizations in Indonesia, such as Nahdlatul Ulama or Muhammadiyah. The third is the counter group on the caliphate. This group views Indonesia as a country that can be interpreted as the incarnation of a caliphate with a democratic system; the president is also considered a caliph. These three groups of teachers with different understandings of the caliphate will affect students' understanding. If they are not straightened out, it will endanger the existence of the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia as an established nation.

Abstract

This paper seeks to shed light on the debate of scientists about the nature of knowledge, its character and sources. The Qur'an is a source of epistemology whose truth cannot be doubted within Islamic tradition. Tracing the function and several verses thematically by analyzing them within the framework of philosophical interpretation, the researchers found that the Qur'an very intensely calls for thinking, contemplating, conducting research and, of course, reading. This research aims to discover in depth the epistemology of Islamic education in the Qur'an and its urgency in the development of Islamic education. This research took a qualitative approach that employed document analysis to obtain data. The results of this study are: (1) Western epistemology consists of rationalism and empiricism schools, while Islamic epistemology consists of bayani schools, burhani schools and 'irfani schools; (2) The approach method in Islamic education's epistemology in the Qur'an consists of rational, intuitive, dialogic, comparative, criticism and 'ibrah methods; (3) The urgency of Islamic education's epistemology in the development of education is to reform Islamic education without eliminating Islamic idealism.

Abstract

This library study aims to examine the effect of Islamic education philosophy on the emotional intelligence development of Muslim students. This study highlights the potential synergy between Islamic education philosophy and the components of emotional intelligence through a systematic review of relevant literature. Existing literature suggests that the Islamic education philosophy, with its emphasis on moral values, character development, self-awareness, and interpersonal skills, can foster emotional intelligence in Muslim students, although few empirical studies investigate this relationship specifically. The findings highlight the need for additional empirical research to establish causal relationships and identify effective strategies for integrating Islamic education principles into educational practices to improve emotional intelligence. Future studies can contribute to evidence-based practices that promote emotional intelligence within Islamic educational contexts by incorporating cultural and contextual factors and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, thereby enhancing the overall well-being and success of Muslim students.

Abstract

Women's education within families plays a crucial role in shaping the perception of the ideal woman in society. This study explores female education within the Sasak, Samawa and Mbojo (Sasambo) tribes in West Nusa Tenggara. A descriptive qualitative approach using phenomenology is used in the research. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentary studies that involved cultural/community leaders and several female community members aged at least 18 years. The results of this study indicate that the educational materials in the three tribes reveal the significant impact of local culture in determining the educational methodology employed. Though each tribe's education features varying elements, they all express cultural, traditional, and religious values in their approach. However, in terms of gender equality and equity, several noteworthy limitations to women's education were revealed in these three tribes. These encompass customary expectations linked to women, societal restrictions that curtail women's autonomy and liberty, and gender responsibilities that do not grant equitable options for women. To address these challenges, the research proposes various actions, including fostering educational programmes that enhance the empowerment of women, encouraging more flexible sharing of roles, respecting women's educational and career choices, and educating on gender equality and justice.
