This study aims at identifying the culturally-bound expressions in the Englishtranslation version of Ahmad Tohari’s Ronggeng Dukuh Parukin terms of techniques totranslate the culturally-bound expressions and their meaning equivalence.This study uses a qualitative approach. The objects of this study are culturally-bound expressions in the form of words, phrases and clauses. The researcher becomes the primary instrument of this study. The secondary instrument is data sheets. In translating the culturally-bound expressions, the translator uses five techniques to solve the cultural gap between the source and target languages. The objective of the research is to find out whether jigsaw technique can increase students‟ reading comprehension on fifth semester of English Education Program Study of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Faculty, State Institute for Islamic Studies Raden Intan Lampung.This was a Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was conducted in twocycles. There were three meetings for each cycle. Not only teacher‟s activity, but also students‟ activity which were observed during the implementation of jigsaw technique in reading class. Finally, to know the increase of students‟ achievement the researcher used reading comprehension test. The test was given at the end of each cycle.Result of the test which was given at the end of cycle 1 showed that there were 24 students or 71% of all who got higher score and 10 students or 29% of all who got lower score. Since the target of this research had not been reached, then the research was continued to cycle 2. Result of the test which was given at the end of cycle 2 showed that there were 30 students or 88% of all who got higher score. On the contrary, only 4 students or 12% of all who got lower score. Thus, this research was stopped because the target has been reached. Thus, the conclusion of this research was: Jigsaw technique can increase students‟ reading comprehension on fifth semester of English Education Program Study of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Faculty, State Institute for Islamic Studies Raden Intan Lampung, in academic year 2013/2014.

The research aims at investigating the influence of using describe and identify game toward students’ Speaking Ability. The students’ speaking ability at the tenth grade of SMA YP UNILA Bandar Lampung is still low. The writer applied quasi experimental design. The population of this research was the tenth grade of SMA YP UNILA Bandar Lampung. There were twelve classes of 424 students. The writer took the sample by using cluster random sampling technique, the sample were X MIA 4 as experimental class and X MIA 6 as control class. The writer conducted five meetings for each class consisting of one pre-test, three treatments and one post-test. In experimental class the writer used describe and identify game, whereas in control class the writer used dialogue memorization technique. In collecting the data, the writer used the instrument in the form of oral test. The instruments were pre-test and post-test, after giving the post-test, the writer, then, analyzed the data using independent sample ttest formula. After doing the hypothetical test, it was obtained the result of ttest was 8.7454 and the result of tcritical with the level of significance 0.05 was 2.00. The criteria to know the hypothesis is accepted or not, was tobserve higher than tcritical (tobserve > tcritical). From this statement, it is clear that 8.7454 is higher than 2.00. This result means that there is a significant influence of using describe and identify game towards students’ speaking ability at the tenth grade of SMA YP UNILA Bandar Lampung.

In teaching learning process, there are a lot of students have difficulties in learning English, especially grammar. The students’ mastery in grammar at SMP Taman Siswa Teluk Betung is also still low. Therefore, the objective of the research is to know the influence of using scientific approach in curriculum 2013 towards students’ mastery in present continuous tense at the eighth grade of SMP Taman Siswa Teluk Betung in the academic year of 2015/2016. In this research, the writer used quasi experimental design by employing control group pretest-posttest design and also conducting tryout to get a good instrument. The population of this research was all students at eighth grade of SMP Taman Siswa Teluk Betung which consisted of 130 students in four classes. The writer took two classes as the sample by using cluster random sampling. In the experimental class the writer used scientific approach in curriculum 2013, whereas in the control class the writer used grammar translation method. Each class received the same pretest and posttest. There were five meetings in each class during the research, including one meeting for pretest, three meetings for treatments and one meeting for posttest. In collecting the data, the writer used test in the form of multiple choice question. The data was analyzed by using Mann-Whitney U, because the data were not in normal distribution. Based on the result of the hyphothesis test that is computated by using non-parametric statistics, Mann-Whitney U, it can be seen that the Pvalue (sig)= .000 and <α= 0.05. It means that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. It can be concluded that there was influence of using scientific approach in curriculum 2013 towards students’ mastery in present continuous tense at the eighth grade of SMP Taman Siswa Teluk Betung.

Many people speak and switch or mix their general use of language with their mother tongues, especially in communicating with people who understand the different languages. In English Language Teaching classrooms, code switching comes into use either in the teachers’ or the students’ discourse. Generally our students whose formal learning in Indonesia, their first language is Indonesian and learning second language just in the class. And when talking each other in the class, in English learning they often resort to a swithched and mixed code (Indonesia-English). The use of the elements of English is sometimes unconscious. It is also same with the teacher. Teacher sometimes conciously and unconciously make a switching and mixing the languages in providing knowledges.Code-switching and code-mixing are well-known traits in the speech pattern of the average bilingual in any human society the world over, where both of them are the most obvious and widespread which used at different language. Through observing the use of code switching and code mizing in teaching-learning process in Indonesia, the reader can understand the functions, types, and reasons in using the swithing and mixing the languages.

Figurative language is a part of semantic. This research analyzed the figurative language used in the lyric of firework by Katy Perry. The aims of this research are to find out the figurative languages used in the lyric of firework and to analyze the contextual meaning of figurative language used in that song. It is expected the result of this study will be useful for the reader especially in knowing what figurative language is and what kinds of figurative language are. The design of this research is descriptive qualitative research. The data of song is got from kapanlagi.com entitle firework. The result found that there are some kinds of figurative language used in Katy perry’s song entitle firework, such as simile, metaphor, hyperbole, affiliation, symbolic, paradox, and personification. The contextual meaning of each figurative language is also stated clearly. The conclusion of this research is there are some kinds of figurative language use by Katy Perry in her song entitle firework.

Ketika berbicara tentang motivasi dalam pembelajaran bahasa asing, banyak orang yang mengasosiasikannya dengan Gardner (1972). Hal ini dapat difahami karena teori Gardner tentang motivasi memang cukup berpengaruh dalam kajian di bidang pengajaran bahasa asing. Meskipun demikian, teori Gardner bukan tanpa kritik. Para ahli di bidang pengajaan bahasa asing banyak yang mempersoalkan kategorisasi yang dibuat Gardner tentang motivasi integratif dan instrumental. Kritik terhadap Gardner tidak hanya sebatas kategorisasi motivasi yang dibuatnya, tetapi juga tesis Gardner yang menyatakan bahwa motivasi integratif lebih efektif dibandingkan dengan motivasi instrumental. Menurut beberapa pakar lain di bidang pengajaran bahasa asing, terdapat jenis motivasi lain yang relevan dengan pengajaran bahasa asing, dan motivasi integratif tidak selalu lebih efektif dibandingkan dengan motivasi instrumental.

This study reports on an investigation into the use of Discourse Markers in the matter of interactivity function during an individual task performance. The study involved four (4) Non-Native English Speaker students who are classmates of English class. The context of the conversation was in terms of casual conversation which happened before class. The participants discussed about ‘task’ and ‘holiday’. The conversation consisted of 318 turns in 14 minutes 38 seconds (14:38’). To reach the goal, the student’s expressions were recorded and transcribed based on turns. The transcription was then analyzed and interpreted. The findings show the DMs of interactivity mostly used in the conversation are “well, yeah” which are aimed to provide a fairly non-committal response to what has just been said.

The objective of this research was to describe the mastery of students in using degrees of Comparison of SMK PGRI 4 BandarLampung.The result of the data analysis of students’ mastery in using Degrees of comparison of the 10th grade students of SMK PGRI 4 Bandar Lampung shown that the students’ mastery of 2016/2017 had fair level.

The objective of this research is to know how good the students’ ability in developing generic structure of retelling narrative text in written form in Senior High School. The research methodology used in this research is Descriptive Research. The result is used to know how good the students’ ability in retelling narrative text in written form which was focused in organization of narrative text. This research was conducted at MAN 1 Bandar Lampung. The sample was chosen X 5 based on the data of students’ score that is the lowest score of all classes. In collecting the data, this research used test instrument. Test instrument was written test. There are four steps for analyzing students’ ability: Assessing the students’ writing, making tabulation, finding the total average score of all students, and finding the percentage each classification of students’ score. From the data analysis, it was found the total average score of all the students in retelling narrative text shown 14 of score. If that score is classified, it is good to average score classification. If the score of each classification was put into percentage, it was found 32.26% students who got excellent to very good score classification, 41.93% students who got good to average, 9.68% students who got fair to poor score classification and 16.13% students who got very poor score classification. The highest frequency score classification of the students’ ability in organization is good to average score classification with 41.93%.
