Abstract

Artificial intelligence technologies are advancing rapidly, and this advancement has led to the infiltration of AI tools in various educational sectors worldwide, influencing teaching methodologies and learning experiences. Bangladeshi tertiary-level EFL students, due to the educational and technological landscape in Bangladesh, face unique challenges and diverse perceptions. This study aims to address the gap in factual investigations concerning the effectiveness and acceptance of AI tools among Bangladeshi tertiary-level EFL students. While previous studies focused on language learning at a general level, limited attention has been given to the usability of AI in improving writing skills, particularly in the Bangladeshi context. Therefore, this study explores Bangladeshi tertiary-level EFL students’ perceptions regarding the usage, challenges, and accessibility of AI tools in developing their writing skills. The study employs a mixed-method approach. Specifically, a sequential mixed method, combining both quantitative (survey with 70 participants) and qualitative (in-depth interviews with 10 participants) methods to comprehensively analyze students’ attitudes and experiences. The findings reveal that AI tools have various effects on students’ English writing skills, with strong support for AI as an invaluable educational resource. However, barriers such as technical issues, the potential for plagiarism, prevalent misconceptions, and the need for critical thinking skills were also identified. The study contributes to the ongoing discourse of AI integration in language learning, providing insights into how AI tools can complement, rather than replace, traditional learning methods.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the activities and outcomes of the English Club at SMA G after one year, using a qualitative case study approach to examine the program's impact on students' language learning. The researcher facilitated the club's activities and served as a mentor. Through discussions with the school's English teachers, counselors, and vice principals, club activities were developed to meet student interests and language levels. Data collection involved observations, lesson plans, attendance records, formative assessments, and photovoice, a method allowing students to capture and reflect on their experiences visually. During the year, the program had 15 sessions, and the average student attendance rate was 74.03 percent out of 32 and 24 students, respectively, for the first and second semesters. Although some students had scheduling conflicts because of academic obligations, those who attended showed strong motivation, especially for conversational practice. The findings suggest that speaking skills have improved significantly, particularly among lower-proficiency students who have gained confidence and vocabulary fluency. The analysis of photovoice revealed high levels of social engagement and collaboration, which reinforces the importance of interactive, supportive environments in language development. This study emphasizes the significance of structured extracurricular programs in improving student language abilities and presents a framework for integrating similar community-supported initiatives in educational settings. The findings suggest that programs such as the English Club can be essential in fostering language acquisition and student engagement.

Abstract

Vocabulary plays a critical role in language acquisition, serving as the foundation for developing speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. However, young learners often face challenges in acquiring vocabulary due to the need for engaging and context-rich learning tools. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of videos in teaching vocabulary to young learners by analyzing findings from recent studies. Using a narrative literature review, three articles published between 2020 and 2023 were examined to identify the types of videos used, teaching strategies employed, and their impact on learners. The findings reveal that videos, including animated and YouTube-based content, significantly enhance vocabulary acquisition by promoting active engagement, improving comprehension, and increasing motivation. Effective teaching strategies such as freeze framing, replication, and active viewing were identified as key to maximizing learning outcomes. This study highlights the importance of thoughtful integration of video content to meet young learners' needs and improve vocabulary learning.

Abstract

In the digital era, modern methods have transformed the learning process, offering various tools to enhance education. One such tool is the Hello English application, which serves as a learning medium for students. Grammar learning, often considered tedious when taught through traditional books, can become more engaging with this application. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the Hello English application in improving students’ understanding of grammar. The research employed a pre-experimental design with eighth-grade students from SMP T as the population. A sample of 25 students was selected from a total of 51. Data were analyzed using paired sample t-tests, with validity and reliability assessed through a Likert scale and Cronbach’s alpha. A normality test was conducted prior to analysis. The results revealed a significant improvement in grammar understanding. The paired sample t-test showed a t-value of 10.719 with a p-value of 0.01 (p < 0.05), indicating a meaningful difference between pre-test and post-test scores. These findings demonstrate that the Hello English application effectively enhanced students’ grasp of the simple present tense, proving its value as a grammar teaching tool for eighth-grade students at SMP T in the 2024/2025 academic year.

Abstract

This study used to analyze semiotics based on Roland Barthes' theory in Samantha King's poem titled "Perfect". The poem "Perfect" was selected for analysis because to its profound and intricate meanings, as well as its utilization of symbols to convey concealed significance and messages. The study used qualitative method  to find out semiotic analysis in the poem. Therefore the research aimed to find out the denotation, connotation and myth meaning based on Roland Barthes theory. The result showed  that the semiotic analysis of "Perfect" reveals how the poem critiques societal myths of perfection and identity. The denotative meaning revealed emotional struggles and self-imperfection, while the connotative meanings focused on the search for acceptance and healing. Barthes’ theory of myth showed how cultural norms of success and failure shape identity, leading to feelings of inadequacy and isolation. The poem is not only encouraged self-acceptance but also it is emphasizing that embracing imperfection is key to healing and self-discovery.

Abstract

Within the context of the emerging 21st-century educational paradigm, traditional pedagogical approaches and classroom management strategies increasingly become inadequate to respond effectively to the emerging complex issues in the classrooms generated by diversity in student populations. Precisely, this study aims at exploring the complex challenges that beginning teachers face in Bangladesh and will particularly investigate their instructional strategies and classroom management. Based on a qualitative methodological framework, this study relies on data collected through reflective journaling, note-taking, peer discussions, and instructional observations. The findings underline the crucial importance of micro-teaching, along with reflective lesson planning and material design, combined with a basic acquaintance with Second Language Acquisition (SLA) theories. The combination of these elements, with a structured approach to peer feedback and self-reflection, has shown the potential of increasing the teaching competencies needed for 21st-century English language classrooms in Bangladesh. Furthermore, this study has shown the requirement for the development of clear teaching philosophies, appropriate choices regarding pedagogical resources, the use of multi-modal teaching methods, and being student-centered—all of which have been associated with improved learning outcomes. This study therefore also found that micro-teaching sessions could be an essential vehicle for improving the pedagogical methods and professional competencies of teachers. It therefore encourages the systematic introduction of teaching practicums coupled with classroom management training as core structures for teacher preparation and lifelong professional development in Bangladesh and in broader educational settings.
