Abstract

This research aims to measure and empirically examine the impact of good governance and understanding of the teachings of ZIS (zakat, infaq, and sadaqah) on Muslims loyalties to the zakat institutions in Salatiga City and Semarang Regency. This research is a quantitative model that employs a questionnaire to gather the primary source for the research variables. The population of this research is muzaki in both areas, and the samples were taken from 94 respondents who regularly deliver their zakat, infaq, and sadaqah through a zakat institution. This study concludes that, firstly, implementing good governance on zakat institutions significantly influences the loyalty of Muslims to zakat institutions in Salatiga and Semarang; hence, the first hypothesis is accepted. Secondly, understanding of teachings on ZIS does not influence the loyalty of Muslims to zakat institutions in Salatiga and Semarang; hence, the second hypothesis is rejected. Third, implementing good governance and understanding of teachings on ZIS influence simultaneously the loyalty of Muslims to zakat institutions in Salatiga and Semarang, so the third hypothesis is accepted. This study notes that the dominant factors influencing muzaki's loyalty arise from external aspects (implementation of good governance), not internal (understanding, piety, and social relations). This research highly recommends that either BAZNAS or LAZ should develop their quality of zakat management systems to encourage Muslims to deliver ZIS through zakat institutions. Thus, zakat funds can be maximally empowered and contribute to the welfare of society.

The heterogeneous, rich and unique social cultural background of Indonesiahas routinely become a hidden agenda of hate speech, intolerance, cultural conflicts, and group friction leading to disharmony. Educational intervention is believely needed to address the issue of tolerance. This article aims to investigate ten young students’ experiences with their narration during the creative process of peace-themed Digital Storytelling (DST). By employing a narrative research paradigm, the study reveals the students’ thoughts during the creative DST process. The students’ statements, picture selection, and syntax served as the primary data. Applying Braun and Clark’s thematic analysis, the parameters of peaceful literacy included the commitment to one nation, tolerance, non-violence, and acceptance of various cultures and traditions. The results of this study on the students’ narratives indicated that these young people were peaceful literary agents who use their voices to speak about the importance of upholding cultural traditions, and respecting and accepting others. The study offers a novelty in terms of methods by using a narrative design to narrate the youngsters’ voice related to peace literacy, and in empirical contribution as the supplement to support the national curriculum as well as the implementation of peace-themed peace literacy in educational context.

Abstract

Papua, which is a part of Indonesia, has a vibrant ethnic culture. Traditions are frequently tied to religion in practice. Waqf is an Islamic principle that does not necessarily contradict regional traditions. The purpose of this study is to describe the land waqf practices in the Papuan community of Dosay. With its subject in Papua’s Dosay village, this study used a descriptivequalitative methodology. The conclusion of this study is that there is an additional mechanism for implementing waqf, namely one based on Customary law, particularly through approval from Ondoafi as the head of tradition, who has rights to all land and all of its natural resources in a customary territory, or through customary deliberations. In Dosay village, the land waqf was given support for the implementation of Islamic worship, and Ondoafi fully backed this up by demonstrating that he had been given waqf land for free to use for religious services, proselytizing, education, and public facilities. However, the administration of waqf certificates, which have not fully utilized all existing assets, continues to be a problem. Despite Islam being a minority faith, the consequences of this study offer examples of religious moderation in waqf practice.
