Abstract

This study intends to reveal the economy of Salafi feminism, social construction, and entrepreneurship of Salafi women in the cities of Metro, Central Lampung, and East Lampung. Salafi women are a cultural variant of Muslim society that claims to be puritanical on ideology. They embrace Islam using syar`i mean and are strongly committed to realizing noble and religious goals. In these complex rules of life, they follow the Prophet`s sunnah, namely trading. In terms of the association of Salafi women in public, it does not prevent them from carrying out entrepreneurial movements. The Salafi women's movement in trade is interesting to study. This study uses a phenomenological approach using Berger's theory, namely the social construction of reality. This research reveals that apart from women who are Salafi qanaah for every provision of their husbands, they also carry out economic activities. In these activities, they continue to practice every religious norm, recommended by scholars as salaf ash Salih, and prioritize permission from husbands and parents.

Abstract

Islamic banks are one of the financial industries affected by the covid 19 pandemic. The inability to pay their obligations to Islamic banks and deposit withdrawals directly impacts the decline in customer business. This condition increases the risk of Islamic banks so that the ability of Islamic banks is needed to maintain customer loyalty. This study aims to analyze customer preferences and satisfaction with Islamic banking services during the pandemic. The data analyzed is primary data with 308 Islamic bank customers as respondents. Determination of the sample using the purposive sampling method with the criteria of the management of Islamic social organizations has been a customer since before the pandemic and made transactions during the pandemic. The data analysis uses the Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) method with the Carter approach (Compliance, Assurance, Responsiveness, Tangible, Empathy and Reliability). The results showed that compliance and assurance have a high level of performance with high preferences and satisfaction. Meanwhile, people's preferences are low, and satisfaction is low because their performance is also low in the tangible and reliability aspects. Another finding is that customers have high preferences but low satisfaction because their performance is typical responsiveness, and people have low preferences. Still, high satisfaction lies in the reliability and empathy aspects.

Abstract

This research explains the multiple barriers of women in rural villages in Southern Rembang, Indonesia. Beside economics and culture, they also face religious barriers in which religious learning and literacy are privileged to only certain people. Kajar is a village where Human Development Index is below the national level and women have dual roles as both domestic workers and family caretakers. Unfortunately, the poverty and lack of purpose in women’s education have limited women’s choices and voices.Through research-based on participation in making women agents of social-religious change, this research finds that women are robust agents for developing literacy based on langgar for their consistency and ability to influence their family, neighborhood, and society. The agencies of women are also going through making the langgar as ‘unofficial madrasa’ where children, both male, and female, are learning religious knowledge equally. Although the impact is not that instant, the agencies have slowly improved religious knowledge and perception of female religious education.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine (1) how the application of the Dawah Qaryah Thayyibah (DQT) method was, (2) whether the DQT method was effectivefor spreading moderate Islam, and (3) the obstacles in applying the method. This study used the qualitative method with the religious study approach, conducted at the Pondok Pesantren Darul Ihsan Muhammadiyah Sragenor DIMSA (the Darul Ihsan Muhammadiyah Islamic Boarding School of Sragen ~Eng.), Indonesia. The data were obtained based on open-ended question-based interviews with the key respondents. The data were then analyzed in three steps: reduction, presentation, and conclusion. The results showed the following: First, the DQT was carried out by sending the students to a community within a certain period to interact with the community, assisting both in religious and social activities in the community; therefore, there was an interaction between students and the wider community. Second, the DQT was effective for spreading moderateIslam, and the effectiveness was in two things: first, the students had a new awareness that there was diversity in society both in terms of religion, culture, and society, and thus the DQT method could reduce and minimize conflicts both in religious and social teachings and the weakness of humanity; second, there were some moderate values that could be developed using the DQT method, including tawazun (balance), ta’adul (justice), tasamuh (tolerance), and shura (deliberatio n ) to create an inclusive-participatory attitude. Third, the obstacle i n implementing the DQT method was the relatively short interaction time between studentsand the community; hence the results of internalizing moderate Islamic values had not been fully visible in real terms.

Abstract

The emergence of mobilised mass movements, demanding prosperity and the elimination of injustice, has emerged in various parts of the world, without exception in the Middle East and Indonesia. This movement was dominated by educated middle-class youth, sparked the term ummah, and then formed unique solidarity to protest against the government of his country. A new concept is needed by paying attention to the novelty of these characteristics, considering the old populism concept is not relevant enough to explain it. This paper seeks to raise the concept of New Islamic Populism to answer this deficiency. Furthermore, the Al-Mukmin Ngruki Islamic Boarding School (PPIM), the Islamic boarding school often associated with terrorism, is used as the object of research to show the evolution of populism. This study uses qualitative methods and data collection techniques in the form of interviews and literature studies. This study foundthat both santri and ustaz PPIM have aspirations and characteristics, asshown by the New Islamic Populism movement.

Abstract

Bali is one of the most popular destinations chosen by foreign tourists for their visits to Indonesia. Accordingly, Bali often is the primary basis by which foreigners assess the entire nation. Tourist attention is drawn to Bali’s natural beauty and its cultural exoticism. They show various perspectives on Balinese religious and cultural life, those that are generally closely related to Hinduism and tourism. Through qualitative approach, this study aims to analysis the religious life of the Muslim communities in Bali for completing the various viewpoints while revealing another side of Balinese exoticism. The Gelgel village of Klungkung regency is a longestablished village inhabited by Muslims in the midst of strong influences of Hinduism. This village is of interest as the oldest Muslim village in Bali to be accorded designation as a banjar dinas, and even while having a slim territory. Notably, the people in the village are generally able to live peaceably side-by-side with adherents of other religions. This is enabled through local wisdoms that have allowed and encouraged harmony withcastle, temple, and Balinese customs.

Abstract

Charity activism has been growing significantly since the pandemic covid-19 outbreak in the early 2020s among Indonesian Muslims. Not only state and non-state actors have taken a role to lessen covid-19-victims’ drawbacks through Islamic social finance, but also private organization and association have done the same. The purpose of this paper is to examine the sustainable charity of Azzavirtium Endowment Fund (Dana Abadi Azzavirtium/DAZZ), which has initiated by the 2004 alumni association of Darussalam Gontor Boarding School (Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor/PMDG). Employing the model of Participation Action Research (PAR), this paper argues that the DAZZ's endowment fund management has given the pattern of sustainable Islamic social finance. Furthermore, this paper argues that the endowment fund has impacted on raising of sustainable compassion activism among alumni members, families, and even for the second generation. It further found that the orphans sponsoring has done with a textual understanding of religious orders without adding another material consideration.

Abstract

Orthodox are a minority group within the minority in Indonesia. Some of theseOrthodox believers have identity as Christian or Catholic, which is also minorityreligions in Indonesia. The adjustments or adaptations made by Orthodox, especially those currently in school, are very interesting and important to learn. For Orthodox students in Malang, the absence of special religious lessons and their status as Christians make them face challenges, especially when studying at Catholic schools. The approach used in this research is qualitative. In particular, the researchers also used a phenomenological perspective in understanding adaptation in this school of Orthodox students. The informant in this study were students who believe in Orthodox and live in Malang. In general, there are no major problems that cause students to clash with other students or schools. Even so, there are problems in the matters of religious ordinances, the sign of the cross, and explaining their status as Orthodoxs. In general, the adaptation happened smoothly because these students were able to suppress their identity as Orthodox followers in the school environment. In addition, the absence of religious instruction in schools can be overcome by religious lessons in the Orthodox church.

Abstract

This paper aims to explain waqf fundraising and its communication among the waqf institutions of pesantrens in Indonesia. The study focuses on the application of innovative waqf fundraising and communication strategies in three waqf-based pesantrens, namely Pondok Darussalam Gontor, Darunnajah, and Tazakka. The primary data are obtained through semi-structured interviews, while the secondary data are collected through observations and document reviews. Both data provide important and useful insights into understanding the waqf fundraising and communication approaches in these waqf institutions. In addition, thematic analysis is utilised in this study to analyse the application of the waqf fundraising models that contribute significantly to the development of waqf in the sampled pesantrens. The results of the study suggest that different types of waqf institutions apply different waqf fundraising methods. Darussalam Gontor and Darunnajah waqf institutions have a similar propensity for using traditional waqf fundraising approaches in which mobilisation and collection of waqf utilise retail and partnership fundraising techniques. While, Tazakka waqf institution applies both modern (market-oriented) and traditional waqf fundraising methods, in which retail, partnership, and crowd (jamā’i) fundraising techniques are used for mobilisation of their waqf. In relation to communication, these three waqf institutions utilise the same methods, that is, individual and community-oriented communications for linking their waqf programmes and activities. These methods of communication are set up to build and manage stronger relationships with key wāqifs. Finally, the study found that these waqf institutions have implemented simple communication approaches and utilised an effective fundraising method in creating and maintaining individual and institutional contributions.
