Abstract

The purpose of this research are: (1) To identify the role of extension on independent small holder farmers of oilpalm; (2) To know empowerment level of the farmers; (3) To analyze the purpose of extension; (4) To analyze influence the role of extension toward empowerment and influence empowerment toward the extensionpurposes. This research was conducted at Harapan BaruVillage and Sebangar Village in Mandau Sub District Bengkalis District. Research’s respondent was determined by purposive sampling methods with number of respondent were 125. The consideration to choose the location is the location that has active extension activities and has farmer group. Validity, reliability, outliers, normality and multicolinearity analysis has been done on the measuring instruments. To answer the first, second, and third purpose of this research using likert’s scale summated rating (SLR). To answer the fourth research purpose was using structural equation modeling (SEM) with the AMOS program version 21. The result shows (1) Therole of extension on independent small holder farmer of oil palm activity in Mandau Sub District is categorized enough. (2)The empowerment of independent small holder farmers of oil palm in Mandau Sub District is categorized enough. (3) The purpose of extension has worked in Mandau Sub District is categorized reach. (4)the role of extensionhas proven positifly influence and significant toward farmer’s empowerment and the farmer’s empowerment has proven positifly influence and significant toward reach of the extension purposes.   Key words: The roleof extension, empowerments, the purpose of extension, independent small holder, oil palm

Abstract

Plantation sector has an important role for the economy of Riau Province, among others, as a provider of employment and sources of income for farmers, the sources of industrial raw materials and sources of basic necessities as well as foreign countries. The purpose of this research is to analyze the role of the plantation sector to the economy of Riau Province through a review of the structure of input-output. The data used in this research is a data input-output table of Riau Province based on producer price transactions in 2012 with the classification of the 17x17 sector of the regional development planning Board (Bappeda) of Riau Province. Results of the analysis show that: first, the plantation sector contributes to the economy of Riau Province. Three plantation sectors, which have high contribution is the sector of palm oil, rubber and coconut sector. Second, in terms of output, component output forming plantation sector more driven by intermediate output followed by investment and consumption. Thirdly, the establishment of the component input, the more the economy is driven by the producer surplus, followed by intermediate input and wages/salaries. Based on those results, in order to encourage economic growth through the development of the plantation sector needs the efforts of the Government and the private sector to increase investment, especially the accumulation of capital sourced from producer surplus. Abstract

The purpose of this study was toanalyze attitude and behavior of farmer in saving money in the saving and loan BRI branch stone tip.analyze relationship with the farmer attitude saving behavior in the saving and loans Bank BRI branch of Ujung Batu . The data used primary data and the sampling technique is purposive sampling combined with accidental sampling . Based on the result of this study concluded that. Overall attitude of farmerto save on BRI Ujung Batu categorized quite good . Cognitive attitude of farmer showed that cognitive attitude of farmer had an average of 3,31 by category quite well . Affective attitude of farmer had an average of 3,33 by category quite well . Conative attitude of farmer had an average of 3,32 by category quite well. The behavior of farmer in saving in BRI Ujung Batu categorized quite good . Farmer saving behavior by cultural factor have an average 3,25 by category quite well . based on social factor have on average 3,32 by category quite well . personal factorhad an average of 3,23 by category quite well and psychologi factor have an average of 3,33 by category quite well. The attitude of farmer have a real positive relationship with saving behavior in BRI Ujung Batu . Abstract

Oil palm produces vegetable oil used in various products including food, non-food, and biodiesel. Increasing demand for crude palm oil has provoked demand for fresh fruit bunches. The oil palm growers respond the higher demand by development of new planting. Land expansion become an important issue since it creates not only positive impacts but also negative impacts such as deforestation, biodiversity loss, forest fire and land conflicts. RSPO certification was established to mitigate the negative impacts and to promote sustainable production of palm oil. The growers must comply the Principles and Criteria of RSPO. Independent smallholers are the most susceptible growers to be included in the oil palm supply chain. How does the farmers manage their plantation to meet the standard while they face various barriers to run their business? The aims of this study are to analyse smallholders’ performance, to assess the application of RSPO Principles and Criteria, and to compare productivity and farm income of oil palm plantations between the RSPO and non-certified independent smallholders. A survey method is used to collect data from the selected samples, 78 of RSPO-certified and 59 of Non-certified smallholders. Using quantitative and qualitative analyses, the result shows that the RSPO-certified smallholders have a very good performance and applied all the RSPO standard. The non-certified smallholders have a good performance and they are in the process of certification to meet the criteria. There are no significant differences in productivity and farm income between the two models. The RSPO-certified and non-certified smallholders located in the same area, therefore, most of the non-certified smallholders have seen the best practices and start applying some of the best practices by themselves.   Keywords: Certification, independent smallholders, productivity, farm income

Abstract

Oil palm is an  important vegetable oil in various products including food, non-food, and biodiesel. Increasing demand in palm oil has provoked growers to augment their oil palm product through land expansion and intensification. Land expansion is preferable due to less effort and low costs however it is not recommended due to negative impacts caused by deforestation. Therefore, intensification is suggested using best practices and good plant material. Replanting is one of alternatives to improve oil palm production when best practices are no longer effective due to bad plant material. Replanting become a challenging issue for oil palm smallholders because of their limited acces to information, inputs and fund. The aim of this study is to analyse farmers’ perception on replanting program. A survey on farmers’ perception on replanting was conducted using likert-scale method. The result show that the farmers have positive thinking on replanting program. However, they still uncertain when to implement the replanting program. Abstract

This research aimed to identify local wisdom is ever existed  rubber plant (from past done but did not do it present), which is still carried out and the rubber farmers who were past and the present  do,  and which were not past done but present do of rubber farmers. This research  uses survey and SnowBall Sampling method in finding the proper respondent to obtain the 15 respondents consisting of 1) Farmers Rubber, 2) Ninik Mamak, 3) Religious Leaders, 4) Apparatus Village, 5) members of farmer groups, 6) Patron(Induk Semang). Methods interviews were conducted to obtain information about local wisdom rubber plants. Descriptive and qualitative analysis in preparing this research. Criteria that respondents who sought rubber farmers who have long experience and the cultivation of local wisdom to know the rubber plant. The results showed that local wisdom of rubber plant by the farmers in cultivation in 1) Land Clearing  that are amounted 21 local wisdom, 2) Nurseries amounted 5 local wisdom 3) Planting amounted 9 local wisdom,  4) The period before production amounted 2 local wisdom,  5) Maintenance amounted 18 local wisdom and 6) Rejuvenation amounted  4 local wisdom, 6) Rubber tapping amounted 15 local wisdom,  7) Processed Materials Rubber amounted 4 local wisdom,  8) Marketing amounted  4 local wisdom. The total local wisdom of rubber plant that 82 local wisdom. Application of local wisdom rubber plant is dominated by the activity pattern of human behavior, actions / activities that reflect the daily life of the local community and religion.   Keywords: Local Wisdom, Rubber Plant, Rubber Farmers, Past, Present

Abstract

The objective of this research is : 1) Analysis the amount of working time of woman  in the household and productive business of  Nucleus Estate Smallholder (NES) farmer family. 2) Knowing the factors that affect the working time of woman in Nucleus Estate Smallholder (NES) farmer family. 3) Knowing the pattern of decision-making of woman in Nucleus Estate Smallholder (NES) farmer family. The research used a survey method and sampling as many as 32 samples. Analysis of the data using Ordinary Liest Square (OLS) and Likert Scale’s Summated Ratting (SLR). The result showed that the average working time of productive woman in the village of Sari Galuh is high at 33,74 hours / week when compared to average of household working time of woman are only 22,82 hours / week.The factors that affect working time is age factor, experience working factor and family dependents factor. The pattern of family decision making is dominated by a woman or a farmer’s wife.   Keywords: working time, decision-making, Nucleus Estate Smallholder (NES)

Abstract

The purposes of this research are to analysis outpouring time of women farm workers in family and factor-factor that affect to working hours. Analysis contribution income of women farm workers toward family’s income. The research used a survey method with sampling technique is purposive sampling. The sample of this research are 37 samples. Analysis of the data using ORDINARY LIEST SQUARE (OLS). The results showed that the average working hours of women farm workers in economic activity is 4,94 HKP/day, with the persentage is 53,00%, and in non economic activity is 4,38 HKP/day, with persentage is 47,00%. The dominant factors that affect working hours is amount of children. Contribution income of woman farm workers in rubber plantation toward family’s income is 33,8%.   Keywords: Rubber Plantation, outpouring of time, Family’s Income

Abstract

The analysis of economic growth and competitiveness of the region is very important to formulate the planning of the region’s growth. This study aims to analyze the growth and competitiveness of the economy in Indragiri Hulu. The purpose of this study used secondary data, the Central Department of Statistics of Riau Province and the Central Department of Statistics of Indragiri Hulu in 2008 and 2012 were analyzed by the method of shift share. This study concluded that there are some districts that have high growth and high competitiveness. They are, District Peranap, District Batang Peranap, District Lirik, District Seberida, District Sungai Lala, District Lubuk Batu Jaya, District Rengat, District Pasir Penyu, and District Rengat Barat. The recommendation of this study is the required to observe the potential and the advantages of each district to improve the management and the utilization of the wealth of natural resource and the effectiveness of efficiency. The most important aspects of the development district in Indragiri Hulu are the development and the improvement of infrastructure, the potential of agricultural development, and increase of  the additional cost of agricultural products. Abstract

This research is implemented in ‘Desa Teluk Merbau’ and ‘Desa Sungai Segajah Makmur’. Kubu Subdistrict, Rokan Hilir District. This research was conducted at Betung Village and Batang Kulim Village in Kubu Sub District Pelalawan District. Research’s respondent was determined by purposive sampling methods with number of respondent were 120. The location is chosen considering that there is a Counseling Institution, Active Counseling and Farmers Group. Validity, Realibility, Outliers, Normality, and Multikolinearity Analysis has been done on measuring treatment. To answer objectives number 1,2, and 3, use the “Scale Likert’s Summated Rating” (SLR) and to answer objectives numbr 4, use the “Strucutral Equation Modeling” with AMOS program. Research results shows: (1) Counseling role is very less in independent smallholder farmers of palm oil, that is viewed from counselour role giving education, information dissemination, facility, concultation, supervision, monitoring, and evaluation (2) farmers empowerment rates occur on less powerful level, viewed on human resources empowerment, productive economy, and institutions. (3) counseling objectives is sufficiently achieved that is viewed from better farming, better business dan better living; (4) role of counseling doesn’t influence directly toward farmers empowerment, and the farmer empowerment directly doesnt’s influence toward counseling objectives achievement.   Key words:The role of extension, empowerments, extension aims, independent small holder, oil palm
