Abstract

Abstract: the purpose of this research was to find out whether the use of two stay two stray cooperative learning can improve students comprehension in Japanese adjective of the Japanese language student level I FKIP University of Riau. The research was experimental research which used the matching only posttest control group  design. The object of this research is a Japanese student level I Riau University consisting of 45 samples of the research. Data collection technigue used this research was test and questioner.  Post-test to find out students comprehension in Japanese adjective after two stay two stray cooperative learning was learning process. The result of  post-test were statistically analyted using to formula manually to know the improvement of students’ comprehension after two stay two stray cooperative learning was learning process Based on statistically analyzing data using t formula it was found that <(0.65 1,68) it means that there was not significant difference between students’ who taught by and students two stay two stray cooperative learning was learning process who taught by did not use that learning process. . questioner to find out students respondens and reason after two stay two stray cooperative learning was learning process. Based of questioner result, all of students attract to this learning method because student can improve the learning motivation of student, easly understand subject of learning and gain students memorize. Abstract

ABSTRACT: This study discusses the ability of Listening News Class X SMK Telkom Pekanbaru. This study was conducted to determine the level of news listening skills class XI student of SMK Telkom Pekanbaru. This study used a technique test the technique in the form of multiple choice objective test. How to measure the level of students' abilities, namely the method of data analysis by giving value to the elements of what, who, why, where, when, and how the news played. Based on the results of the study showed that the overall level of ability to listen to the news element of class X SMK Telkom Pekanbaru classified as moderate with a mean 82, 43. If categorized the ability to listen to the news in determining what elements is high with the average of 89.73. The ability to listen to the news in determining the elements who were moderate with the average of 81.16. The ability to listen to the news in determining why the element is low with the average of 60.18. The ability to listen to the news in determining where the element is high with an average of 85, 26. The ability to listen to the news in determining when the element is classified with a mean of 80, 80. Abstract

Abstract: Homonym is a word, phrase or sentence that has the same form and sound but has a different meaning. The problem that I researched in this study is what are homonyms in Nias language? What are the homonym meaning that contain in Nias language? The aims of this research are to analyze and describe the form and meaning of homonyms in the Nias language which has Gunungsitoli dialect. The method used in this research is descriptive method,a method is used to explain the data that is taken in this researc by using interview, data collection, record, documentation and literature. The application of interview is interviewingor questioning for Nias society in the town of Gunungsitoli were considered to meetcriteria as a sources who understand the language of homonyms in Nias then the result is written down and documentation as collecting the homonym words in Nias language used as research material then analyzed according to the research problem. There are two forms of research results homonym in Nias language, namely 457 that homophones and homonyms homograph and 1homograph homonym but not homophones. In terms of the meaning of homonyms, found 20 homonym meaning, e.g meaning annoyed/angry, understand the meaning, the meaning of the command, meaning informing, meaning conditions, meaning lazy, meaning asked, meaning the ban, meaning the nature, the meaning of work/activity, describe the type of meaning, the meaning of time, meaning size/weight/number, the meaning of the terms, meaning do not like, meaning approved, meaning actors/subjects, meaning surrender, meaning bored and do not understand the meaning. Result of this research shows that the use of homonyms in Nias language community is very high.Key words: Homonyms, Homograph, Homophones, Nias Language

Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to determine the ability to read a story about a matter of mathematics student of elementary school class V 105 Pekanbaru. This research is using quantitative methods. The populations in this research is all students is the fifth grade off primary school 105 Pekanbarutotaling 160 students. The sample in this research are 40 students drawn using simple random sampling technique. The technique collecting data is a test reading a story about a matter of math with 4 option/alternative. Data analysis technique is using statistics. The research concluded that the ability to read a story about a matter of mathematics students public elementary school class V 105 Pekanbaru category is very low with an average value of 42,25.Keywords: the ability to read, a story about a matter of mathematics.

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to find out the third year students’ ability of English Study Program in comprehending English news articles. This research focuses on finding factual information, finding main ideas, locating the meaning of vocabulary in context, identifying references, and making inferences based on English news articles. Data were collected using reading comprehension test with multiple choice type. The test contained 30 items. The try out was conducted to check the validity and reliability of the test. The research findings are as follows. First, the ability of the students in comprehending English news articles is 67 which is in Average to Good level. Second, the students’ mean score in finding factual information is 71, the mean score in finding main ideas is 59, the mean score in identifying references is 73, the mean score in making inferences is 61, and the mean score in locating the meaning of vocabulary in context is 67. Third, the highest score obtained by the students is in identifying references that falls into Average to Good ability level, and the lowest score that the students get is in finding main ideas that falls into Poor to Average ability level.Keywords: Ability, Comprehending, News Articles.

Abstract

Abstract: The research is a descriptive research that was conducted based on the problem occurred at the first years students of SMK Taruna Pekanbaru; namely the students were lack in making texts using simple present tense that influence them got poor score in test. Therefore, this research was aimed to find out the dominant errors made by the first year students of SMK Taruna Pekanbaru in using simple present tense in writing descriptive text, The participants were 31 students from first years of SMK Taruna Pekanbaru. This research was conducted for about four months (January – April, 2015) and wad taken on March and April , 2015 at SMK Taruna Pekanbaru, Rajawali Sakti street No.37, Panam. In collecting the data, writer explained the subjects about the use of the simple present tense, and then writer explained about the rules in writing a descriptive text. Next, writer held a field research by preparing questions sheet and answer sheets. Each of the question sheets consisted of an outline that will guide them in writing a descriptive text and the answer sheets were for the students’ writing. The writer looked after the test to avoid the same writing among the students. Then writer analyzed the students’ works by making a list of the students’ errors in using the simple present tense in descriptive text. Based on thoseerrors, writer furthermore began to conduct an error analysis.Keyword: descritive texts, simple presents tense.

Abstract

Abstract: The objective of thisreseach is to acknowledge the ability onpedagogical competence of 2015 practice teaching of (PPL) students of English StudyProgram of FKIP University of Riau. The research is a descriptive research method.This research consists of one variable, that is teachers’ pedagogical competence. It ishoped that this research can be used in motivating students in learning English. Thepopulation of this research is the seventh semester students at English Study Program ofFKIP of University of Riau Pekanbaru and there were 50 students of class A, B and C.The questionnaire of the research cover 28 items about teachers pedagogicalcompetence with 4 options of 7 indicators. Through the questionnaire, the data werecollected and then analyzed by using M. Ali’s (1993) formulae. Based on the dataanalysis, it was found that the English students’ pedagogical competence is in the levelof good. In detail, the most dominant problem faced the students is in interrelationshipamong school, family, community, national education and educational innovation. Theeffort of the English students should be sustained in the part of educational institutions,principals, and teacher in order to improve the quality of the student-teachers’pedagogical competence.Key Words : Pedagogical Competence, Practice Teaching (PPL), and English StudentsAbility in Teaching class.

Abstract

Abstract: The objective of this descriptive research was to find out about students’ reading strategies in their reading activities, inside and outside the classrom. The sample of this research was the fifth semester students of English Department of Riau University. There were 65 students participated as the sample of this research. The data were quantitative and the instrument of the research was a questionnaire which consists of 28 questions regarding the reading strategies they use inside and outside the class. The data were analyzed by calculating the score of the students in answering the questionnaire and classifying them to a certain category using Sugiono formula (2012). The results were that out of 65 students, the students’ response is strongly agree with the reading strategies such as: Identifying the purpose in reading (81,23%), using different silent reading techniques for relatively rapid reading (80,61%), analyzing vocabulary (80%), and guessing when we are not certain(80,30%). After that, the students’ response is agree such as : Using graphemic rules and patterns to aid in bottom-up reading (76%), skimming the text for main ideas (73,23%), scanning the text for specific information (73,53%), using semantic mapping or clustering (70,76%), distinguishing between literal and implied meanings (75,07%), and capitalizing on discourse markers to process relationships (74,15). This research recommended that the students to find out the suitable reading strategies for doing their reading activities. Further research can focus on studying each subtopic in details.Keywords: reading strategies, reading activities

Abstract

Abstract: This study presents the ability of fourth semester students of English Study Program University of Riau in writing summary of a short movie .This study was based on fourth semester students’ experiences that have learned writing summary text in second semester. Moreover, fourth semester students’ also have learned about literature in third semester in Introduction to Literature subject. Because the fourth semester students will learn literature subjects in next semester, they should be able to write summary in another source, for example from movie. The participants were 38 students of fourth semester students English Study Program University of Riau. The participants were selected randomly from two classes. This study was conducted in one writing test based on Harris (1986) criteria. The instruments of the research were one writing form and short movie entitled Now or Never (Youtube.com). The research finding showed there were fewer students got satisfied score, which was the average of fourth semester students’ ability in writing summary of a movie fall into poor to average level. Based on this finding, it was suggested to fourth semester students of English Study Program University of Riau to develop their skill in grammar, mechanic, fluency and organization because these were the important aspects in learning a language especially in writing.Keywords: writing summary, using short movie, fourth semester students’ ability.
