Abstract

Abstract: The main purpose of this study was to investigate the potential existence of a statistically significant relationship between students' self-efficacy and their Writing Ability at SMKN 4 Pekanbaru. The study utilized a quantitative methodology and employed a correlational research design. The study encompassed a population of 413 second-grade students at SMKN 4 Pekanbaru. A sample size of 35 pupils was selected using a cluster random sampling technique. The research utilized a questionnaire to assess students' academic self-efficacy and a writing recall text to evaluate their writing ability. In order to do data analysis, the researcher applied SPSS 25. The results demonstrated that the correlation coefficient between the two variables is 0,-113, indicating a no relationship. Furthermore, the determinant coefficient of students' academic self-efficacy is 1.28%. Based on the analysis, it can be deduced that there exists a somewhat insignificant and negative correlation between the two variables.Key Words: Correlation, Self-efficacy, Writing ability

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to determine whether Index Card Match has an effect in teaching learning simple present tense and simple past tense among the second-grade students of SMP Islam Al-Azhar Pekanbaru, which is consist of 50 students from two classes, where 8A as Experimental Class and 8B as Control Class. This study is conducted by test and questionnaire. In order to determine the result of the test and questionnaire, the Quantitative experimental research is applied in this study. The result of the study shows that: (i) the students' knowledge of the simple present tense and simple past tense improved after applying the Index Card Match strategy; (ii) in the pre-test, the experimental class mean score was 81.1%, compared to 75.1% for the control class. In contrast, the experimental class mean score on the post-test was 94.5%, compared to the control class mean score was 84%; (iii) the results of the test proved that Index Card Match strategy was successful to dicovered the issue in this study.Keywords: Effect, Index Card Match, Grammar, Teaching Learning Process

Abstract

Abstract: This research was conducted to find out what types of language are misused and what causes misuse or deviation of language use that can occur in the character Mordred in the anime Fate Apocrypha. The type of research used is qualitative and descriptive methods. The source of the data is taken from 25 episodes in the Fate Apocrypha anime. The method of data collection carried out is observation, listening, and recording. The results of this study show that abuse or deviation of language use by speakers who have different genders can be caused by several factors in accordance with Hymes' theory, namely SPEAKING that the place, situation, social status of participants, purpose of speech, form of speech, how the speech is conveyed, the means used, norms and types of speech can be the cause of abuse or deviation of language use can occur.Key words: Danseigo, Anime, Fate Apocrypha, Yuichiro Higashide

Abstract

Abstract: Narrative text is one of the types of text learned in school. Therefore, it is necessary to know the students’ ability in comprehending narrative text. The aim of this study is to find out the ability in comprehending narrative text of the third year of Junior High School 1 Sungai Apit which consists of 82 students in total. The writer used cluster random sampling technique to determine the sample. The samples were 30 students. The instrument was a test which consisted of 40 items. The frame of the test covers 8 components: main idea, reference, detailed information, vocabulary, inference, social functions, generic structures, and language features. The findings show that the ability in comprehending narrative text of third year of Junior High School 1 Sungai Apit was high level with mean score 83.The highest mean score (80) was in language features and the lowest mean score (51.3) was in determining main idea. However, the students are suggested to expand their ability of the eight components in comprehending narrative text for the better results. Furthermore, the teachers are expected to be able to provide better teaching and learning to improve students’ reading comprehension abilities.Key Words: Ability, Reading comprehension, Narrative text

Abstract

Abstrak: Difficulty learning the meaning of kanji is a difficulty for students in learning the meaning of kanji. This study aims to determine the factors of student difficulties in learning the meaning of kanji. This study uses quantitative descriptive methods. This study uses a questionnaire to collect data sources. The respondents in this study were 36 students from the class of 2022 Japanese Language Education FKIP Universias Riau. The results of this study found that there are three factors that have quite an influence on the difficulty of learning the meaning of kanji in students, namely learning strategy factors, curriculum factors and environmental factors.Keywords: Kanji, Meaning, Difficulty.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to find out students’ perception on the use of english songs for vocabulary development. This research used a mixed method design, namely by using questionnaires and interviews. The respondents were second-semester students of the English Education Department University of Riau. The technique used in collecting data was 14 item statement questionnaire for 40 students and 5 question interview for 5 respondents who like listening to English songs. The results of the research show that students really like English songs and have a positive perception of English song lyrics as a learning medium for vocabulary development. One way that can be used in teaching vocabulary in class is by using English songs. Based on the results obtained, English songs are very influential in increasing vocabulary. English songs also make students not bored by listening to songs.Keywords: English Songs, Perception, Vocabulary.

Abstract

Abstract: The aims of this research are to identify the types and functions of slang in the film “Don’t Look Up” based on Allan and Burridge theory. This research was conducted by doing a descriptive qualitative method with a content analysis design. The source of this research is taken from the movie and the script of “Don’t Look Up” movie directed by Adam McKay. Based on the research result, there are thirty-four slangs in the movie “Don’t Look Up”. There are five types of slang in the theory of Allan and Burridge, however, only four types were found in the movie. Those are fresh and creative, imitative, flippant, and acronyms. For the functions of slang, there were seven functions of slang based on Allan and Burridge theory. However, only six functions of slang that were found in the movie are as follows to address, to humiliate, to initiate a relaxed conversation, to communicate impression, to reveal anger, and to show intimacy.Key Words: sociolinguistics, slang, movie

Abstract

Abstract: This study is a quantitative descriptive study which aims to determine the use of independent learning strategies by class of 2022 students when learning hiragana letters. The population and sample in this study are all students from the class of 2022, totaling 38 students. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire consisting of 26 statements. Based on the result of the questionnaire analysis, it is known that Barbara Bourke’s use of learning strategies includes 14 strategies, namely association strategies, story strategies, frequency strategies, experience strategies, visual strategies, self-monitoring strategies, compensation strategies, sequence strategies, physical/emotional response strategies, sound strategies, writing sequence strategies, learning planning strategies, learning evaluation strategies, and collaborating strategies with other people.Key Words: Learning Strategies, Hiragana, Japanese

Abstract

Abstract: The research aims to determine the effectiveness of Kahoot in learning kanji for students the class 2021 of the Japanese Language Education Study Program, FKIP, Riau University. In this study, researchers conducted research to find out wheather there was a significant difference in the reading comprehension ability of kanji students in class of 2021 before and after using learning media in the form of Kahoot. The type of research used is pre-experiment with a One Group Pretest-Posttest Design pattern. The sample in this study consisted of 35 Japanese Language Education students class of 2021. The learning materials used for the pretest, treatment and posttestwere taken from the kanji lecturer manual, namely the どんどんつながる漢字練習帳book. The results of the research can be concluded that the Kahoot learning media iseffective as a kanji learning media.Keywords: Kahoot Media, Kanji, Experiment

Abstract

Abstract: This research is a quantitative descriptive study which aims todetermine students' perceptions of taking Japanese language lessons using the StudentCentered Learning model. Independent learning strategies by class of 2022 studentswhen learning hiragana letters. The population and sample in this research were classXI IPS 2 students, totaling 32 students. The instrument used in this research was aquestionnaire consisting of 20 statements. Based on the results of the analysis carriedout on questionnaires and assisted by interviews with several students, it was found thatthe students' perceptions of taking Japanese language lessons using the SCL modelwere positive which can be seen from the results of the questionnaire, namely that 12students had very positive perceptions with a percentage of 43.75%, as many as 18Other students had a positive perception with a percentage of 56.25%, and there wereno students who had less positive or negative responses. Apart from that, internalfactors which include interest and attention also had positive results based on students'perceptions, while for external factors there were 3 students who gave less positiveresponses for reasons that were acceptable and needed to be paid attention to in thefuture.Key Words: Student Perceptions, Student Centered Learning, Japanese
