Abstract

Background: Internet addiction is potentially experienced by young people, including students. Students with internet addiction may suffer from lack of sleep, fatigue, decreased performance on social activity, anxiety, and apathy. Furthermore, internet addiction may cause negative effects on students achievement level. This study aims to examine the difference of learning achievement level between students of SMA Negeri 1 Salatiga who were addicted and not addicted to the internet. Methods: This was an analytical observational research using cross-sectional approach, conducted from May to July 2012 at SMA Negeri 1 Salatiga. Subjects were 11th grade students majoring science who were sampled using simple random sampling method. Eighty subjects were asked to fill out the Young's Diagnostic Questionnaire (YDQ) and the Lie Scale of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (L-MMPI), both were Bahasa Indonesia versions. Status of having internet addiction was identified from the YDQ scores, while learning achievement level was determined from students average scores at the first and second semester. Data were analyzed using independent t test, ?2 test, and prevalence ratio (PR). Results: Seventeen students (21,25%) were found to be addicted to internet, 11 (64,7%) of which showed poor learning achievement. Statistical analysis showed a significant difference of students scores between those having and not having internet addiction (82,99 versus 84,72; t = -3,792; p < 0.001). The learning achievement levels also differed significantly between the two groups (?2 = 6,128; p = 0,013), where poor achievement level was found two times higher in group of students having internet addiction (PR = 2,04). Conclusions: There was a significant difference of learning achievement level between students having and not having internet addiction at SMA Negeri 1 Salatiga. Abstract

Introduction: Healthcare service could not be distinguished from medical education in Indonesia. Beside his academic capabilities, a doctor's behaviour towards his surroundings must also be taken into account. But in reality, there hasn't been a significant amount of emotional intelligence teaching included in the curriculum of Indonesian medical education. This study is conducted to define the Correlations between Emotional Intelligence with Achieved Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of Undergraduate Students of Faculty of Medicine, Sebelas Maret University Surakarta. Method: This study was an analytic observational experiment with cross sectional approach. The sample had been taken from the population of undergraduate students of Faculty of Medicine, Sebelas Maret University, class of 2012. The sampling had been done using cluster random sampling technique. The obtained data had been statistically analyzed with simple linear regression technique, using Statistical Package for Social Sciences23 (SPSS 23) for Mac and p <0.05 was chosen as the minimal significance level. Result: The data analysis result with simple linear regression technique showed that there was no significant correlation between emotional intelligence and the achieved cumulative grade point average (GPA) in undergraduate students of Faculty of Medicine, Sebelas Maret University Surakarta. (p = 0.536 ; p>0.05). Conclusion: There was no significant correlation between emotional intelligence and the achieved cumulative grade point average (GPA) in undergraduate students of Faculty of Medicine, Sebelas Maret University Surakarta. Abstract

Introduction: Communication is one of the basic competence of a medical doctor. Community-based education as one of the educational methode in medical curriculum has a role to achieve communication competence and the other medical doctor competencies. Fieldlab is a learning program that using community-based education methode. The purpose of this study is to know how the role of fieldlab on achieving medical doctor competencies at communication aspect. Methods: This study was a qualitative study with a purposive sampling method. The sample was medical students of faculty of medicine, Sebelas Maret University batch 2012 that has pass all topics of fieldlab. The metode of collecting data was using 4 group of focus group discussion (FGD) with 6 to 8 subject in each group. This study analyzed with content analysis technique. Results: This study found some fieldlab roles in achieving medical doctor competencies in communication aspect. Such as train the ability to communicate to the community, inter-profession communication, and communication with patients. Otherwise, it found that there were things could hinder the communication competencies achievement. Conclusions: Fieldlab has role to increasing the doctor competence in communication aspect of medical student. Keywords: fieldlab, community-based education, communication, competency

Abstract

Background: Tutorial discussion is one method of Problem Based Learning (PBL), this method divided students into small groups and then given a mdical case as a trigger to search further information, and they discuss knowledge and information that accompanied by a tutor. The success of the tutorial discussion process may affect the achievement of learning objectives block. The aim of the research is to determine differences in the achievement of learning objectives Immunology block scenarios before and after tutorial discussion. Methods: This research was a longitudinal observational analytic. The data were collected by using simple random sampling with 47 sampels of students batch 2013 and had been assessed at Medical Faculty of Sebelas Maret University. The learning objectives of this comparation study measured by pretest and posttest questions that have been tested validation by experts. The study was conducted using quantitative method and the results were analyzed by using Paired t-test. Results: The average value of pretest-posttest before and after tutorial discussion is 28.51-60.85 for the first scenario, 22.34-62.55 for the second scenario, and 16.81-65.32 for the third scenario. Paired t-test results showed significant differences with p <0.05 (p=0.000) for the value of pretest-posttest three scenarios. Conclusions: The achievement of learning objectives scenario in immunology block before and after tutorial discussion is significant. Abstract

Introduction: Interprofessional Education (IPE) is a collaborative practice with two or more health professions that each studying the role of each health profession to improve collaboration and quality of health care. This study aimed to determine the outcomes of interprofessional approach, medical and midwifery students, based on the public perception of the health services using community-based IPE learning method. Methods: This study was a qualitative research, conducted in Puskesmas Sangkrah in January 2016. The subject of the research were patients and their families who received medical care in Faculty of Medicine Sebelas Maret University IPE program in December 2015. The sampling technique was purposive sampling with typical type of sample. The data was taken by using the in-depth interview on the subject with the amount of data retrieval determined by saturation data. The research instrument is the researcher himself. Interview guidelines referring to instruments Attitudes Toward Health Care Teams (ATHCT) Scale were translated and modified. Data were analyzed using thematic content analysis. Results: The outcomes of health services by interprofessional education learning method in faculty of medicine sebelas maret university, it was obtained the category of comprehensive of care, continuity of care, communication between team and patient, and team collaboration. Conclusions: The community founds the outcome of health services with interprofessional education is good. Through public perception, we obtained two perceptions of interprofessional education, it was found that good health care can be obtained through the implementation of a good IPE by implementing patient-centered care and good communication among the health care team with the patients and their families, and also among members in the healthcare team.Keywords: community, interprofessional education (IPE), outcome

Abstract

Background: One of keys to success during adolescence is determined by the educa-tional achievements. Post-secondary students tend to find ways and reasons to be more advanced and motivated obtaining better achievement than before. At tertiary level education including university, assessment of academic achievements is expressed by Grade Point Average (GPA). Achieving cum laude title when graduated from a university which requires a final GPA of above 3,50 is desirable by many students. This study aim to evaluate the difference of anxiety levels among undergraduate students at final year with GPA below 3,50 and above 3,50 to achieve cum laude title. Methods: The study was an analytical observational study using cross-sectional design, held in July 2012 at Faculty of Medicine, Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta. Samples were selected using purposive sampling method. Samples were then asked to fill in: (1) Curriculum vitae form, (2) L-MMPI questionnaire (to evaluate their thruthfulness in answering questionnaires), (3) T-MAS questionnaire (to measure anxiety scores). Data were analyzed by Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test and the independent t-test using SPSS 17,0 for Windows. Results: Sixty-six medical students participated in this study. The mean anxiety scores of students with GPA below 3,50 was 21,51 6,87, as for those with GPA above 3,50 was 18,65 4,77. Result from independent t-test showed no statistically significant difference of anxiety scores between the two groups (p = 0,118). Conclusion: There was no difference of anxiety levels among final year undergraduate students whose GPA is below 3,50 and above 3,50 in order to achieve cum laude title. Abstract

Background: Anxiety is the apprehension of something that will occur with uncertain causes. Class program differences may cause anxiety. In acceleration program, student are expected tobe more critical and creative given limited and targeted study time, but will likely be more anxious at a time due to tight competition. This research aims to find out whether anxiety level differs between regular students and accelerated students at SMP Negeri 1 Wonogiri. Method: This study was a descriptive analytical research using cross sectional approach conducted in March 2012 at SMP Negeri 1 Wonogiri. Subjects were purposively sampled based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria and were subsequently randomly sampled. Subjects filled in (1) curriculum vitae form, (2) L-MMPI questionnaire to find out the respondents' truthfulness in filling in the questionnaire, and (3) T-MAS questionnaire to measure the anxiety score. Subjects were excluded when their L-MMPI scores were ? 10 or did not fill in the questionnaire completely. Data were analyzed by Chi-square test using SPSS 17.0 for Windows. Result: Analysis fromeighty subjects showed a X2 value of 0.341, (p=0.599), meaning that there was no difference of anxiety level between regular and accelerated students at SMP Negeri 1 Wonogiri. Conclusion: There was no evidence of anxiety level differences between regular and accelerated students iat SMP Negeri 1 Wonogiri. Keywords: Regular program, Acceleration program, Anxiety

Abstract

Introduction: The students of medical faculty are expected to have self directed learning (SDL) skill. SDL measured by indicatorself directed learning readiness (SDLR).The implementation of SDLis influenced by internal and external factor should run in balance. Self efficacy is an internal factor which influencing SDL. The aim of the research was to investigate the correlation between self efficacy and SDLR among students of Medical Faculty Sebelas Maret University. Methods: This research was a cross sectional observational analytic. We were conducted at Medical Faculty Sebelas Maret University in October 2015. Data was collected by using stratified random sampling to 276 samples of students. SDLR was measured by Self Directed Learning Readiness Scale for Nursing Education (SDLRS-NE) and self efficacy was measured by General Self Efficacy Scale (GSES). Both of them have been tested for validity and reliability. Correlation nonparametric Spearman test was used to analyse the data. Results: Results were revealed significant correlation (p = 0.000) between the variables. Moderate relationship (r = 0.572) was found between students self-efficacy and SDLR in the Medical Faculty Sebelas Maret University. Conclusions: Self efficacy was found positively correlated with SDLR students of Medical Faculty Sebelas Maret University. Keywords: Self efficacy, Self Directed Learning Readiness

Abstract

Background: Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) was one of learning methods that helped in the learning of clinical skills. There was some medical students that needed more PAL than other medical students and also participantss motivation in PAL was different each other. This research meant to analyze the effect of frequency and motivation in Peer Assisted Learning to Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) Score. Methods: This research was an observational analytic using cross sectional method, which held on 2014 on first year medical students of Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Sebelas Maret. Sampling method was using total population sampling, with inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data measured with questionarre. From questionarre gained 117 data and analyzed using Spearman test. Results: This research showed significant effect of frequency and motivation in Peer Assisted Learning to Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) Score. The Spearman test was resulted pfrekuensi = 0.002 and pmotivasi = 0.006 (<0.05). Conclusions: There is significant effect from frequency and motivation in Peer Assisted Learning in OSCE Score. Abstract

Introduction: Academic motivation is the key to generate students readiness to study by their own will, as it calls Self Directed Learning Readiness (SDLR). SDLR can increase students learning input, especially in this case which is the learning process of Skills Lab of Electrocardiography, which has complex learning subject and high number of failed student. This research purpose is to find the correlation of academic motivation with self directed learning readiness. Methods: This research was a cross-sectional observational analytic. Research location was in Faculty of Medicine of Sebelas Maret University. The subjects were medical students of Sebelas Maret University class of 2012, 2013, and 2014 generation. The subjects selected by using proportional stratified random sampling method. Academic motivation was measured by Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) . SDLR was measured by questionnaire of Self Directed Learning Readiness for Nurse Education (SDLR-NE). The statistical analysis of obtained research data was Pearson Correlation Test. Results: Normality test showed that data of academic motivation and self directed learning readiness was normally distributed. Pearson correlation test result was 0.551 with p = 0.000 Conclusions: This research has showed the correlation between academic motivation and SDLR. Higher of academic motivation value then the SDLR in learning process of Skills Lab of Elctrocardiography value will also be higher.
