Abstract

This study was conducted to analyse the validity of the self determination instrument. The study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional survey design with a convenience sample technique of 102 people, consisting of 45 men and 57 women, in junior high schools in West Java, Indonesia. The self-determination instrument was elaborated from Ryan and Deci's Theory, with 17 items and 6 levels of answer choices. Data were analysed using the Rasch Model with the help of Winstep software version 3.73. Analysis of self-determination instrument results through the Rasch model based on aspects of unidimensionality, item analysis (item difficulty level and item suitability level), diagnostic rating scale and instrument analysis. The results of the reliability value of 0.91 so that it can be used as a consideration of measuring instruments to measure self-determination abilities in junior high school students, and the Guidance and Counselling process can be implemented in the need assessment step.

Abstract

This case study was conducted with the phenomenon that in the School Field Introduction (PLP) activities, many prospective BK teachers practice distance counseling using a postmodern approach. Distance counseling is a counseling strategy that needs to be mastered by all prospective BK teachers. This is based on the growing needs of the community, including the school community, for mental health services and distance counseling services. This study involved 10 prospective BK teachers as the main subjects selected using purposive sampling, with a data collection tool in the form of an in-depth interview guide instrument. The research method is a qualitative research method with a case study design. The objectives of this study are to: a) describe how theoretical understanding of prospective BK teachers about counseling with a postmodern approach is carried out in a distance mode?, b) describe how prospective BK teachers' perspectives on the implementation of distance counseling practices with a postmodern approach that they do?, c) describe how effective the implementation of distance counseling with a postmodern approach is based on the practices that have been carried out by prospective BK teachers. The results of in-depth interviews explain that prospective BK teachers already have adequate theoretical understanding even though in practice there are still many shortcomings; the implementation of distance counseling is needed today because it is needed by the community and is efficient when carried out; and long-distance counseling with a postmodern approach can be carried out effectively if the prerequisites of facility readiness, counselor readiness, and client readiness are met. Further research can be designed to improve the skills of prospective BK teachers in organizing long-distance counseling with a postmodern approach. Further researchers can also conduct experimental research or promotion on prospective users.

Abstract

In the current era, education remains an integral part of life, crucial for enhancing human resources. Schools are traditionally seen as central to developing children's competencies.  However, this study seeks to examine the role of family as a provider of comprehensive and holistic education, specifically in the context of orphanages. The study aimed to explore the impact of family education on the moral and character development of orphans. A mixed-method design,  particularly a sequential explanatory design, was employed in this research. The study involved 34 respondents, including children from orphanages and orphanage caregivers, selected through purposive sampling.  Data collection included a literature review of relevant journals and parental bonding questionnaires.  The analysis utilized a mixed method approach, with qualitative analysis conducted first, followed by quantitative analysis. The results indicated that family education, especially parental bonding, significantly influences the improvement of children's moral and character development.  The study implies that family education extends beyond assisting children at home and enrolling them in higher education; it also encompasses advising, building trust, and serving as positive role models.

Abstract

The ability of parents to accept the condition of their children with special needs  has a positive impact on the process of handling children.  This study aims to explore the experiences of parents who have children with special needs and developmental disorders using Elisabeth Kübler-Ross' theoretical perspective regarding the stages of grief and forms of acceptance.  This qualitative phenomenological research focuses on parents' self-acceptance as a phenomenon.  The research subjects were selected using a purposive sampling technique, and three parents of children with special needs and developmental disorders aged 5-7 years were identified.  Research data was collected using direct interviews, in-depth observations, and online communication media.  The data were processed and reduced manually by the researchers before being presented.  The results showed that all subjects went through the stages of acceptance according to the stages of grief theory, but the stages experienced by the subjects varied slightly.  The rejection stage was experienced only by Subject 1 and Subject 2; the anger stage by Subject 2 and Subject 3; the bargaining stage by Subject 1, Subject 2, and Subject 3; the depression stage by Subject 1 and Subject 3; and the acceptance stage by all three subjects.  The process of parental acceptance of children with special needs has a direct impact on the parenting model and the fulfillment of children's rights in everyday life.  Therefore, good acceptance skills are crucial for parents of children with special needs, enabling them to feel comfortable and guide their children towards achieving self-actualization.

Abstract

In the face of the substantial impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, Industry 4.0 has expedited innovation in several industries, including education. The objective of this study is to investigate the impact of intrinsic and extrinsic influences on the job satisfaction of counselors by applying Herzberg's dual factor theory. The employed methodology is a systematic literature review, encompassing the stages of identification, screening, eligibility, data abstraction, and analysis. This study examined scholarly papers published between 2019 and 2023, with a specific focus on school counselors and the field of guidance education. After applying rigorous inclusion and exclusion criteria, the selection procedure yielded 10 pertinent articles out of 378 discovered documents. The study findings suggest that motivating circumstances, such as professional recognition, achievement, and development possibilities, have a substantial impact on the job satisfaction of counselors. By contrast, job discontent and burnout are linked to hygienic variables such as an excessive workload and insufficient institutional assistance. The present study highlights the necessity of achieving a harmonious equilibrium between motivators and hygienic elements in order to enhance the psychological well-being and job satisfaction of counselors. The results of this study offer valuable perspectives for the formulation of policies and implementation of strategies that promote the well-being of counselors in educational environments.

Abstract

A measurement tool for the well-being of high school students in Indonesia is needed. This study aims to adapt and test the psychometric properties of the Perceived Wellness Survey Full Length (PWS-FL) and the new Perceived Wellness Survey Short Form (PWS-SF) for high school students within the Indonesian cultural context. The study is quantitative, employing the Rasch model. The sampling method used is purposive sampling, involving 360 high school students. The study instruments used are the Perceived Wellness Survey Full Length (PWS-FL) and the new Perceived Wellness Survey Short Form (PWS-SF).  The results of the study show that the PWS-FL and PWS-SF are valid and reliable using the Rasch model. The data obtained with these instruments can be used as a basis for developing guidance and counseling programs to enhance the well-being of high school students.
