Abstract

This meta-analytical study aimed to examine the effectiveness of reality therapy in enhancing students learning motivation and discipline. Seven experimental studies were selected as the sample of the study using purposive sampling technique. These selected studies reported the effect of reality therapy on learning motivation and discipline. The analysis was done using pre-post contrast meta-analysis. The calculation result showed a weighted mean effect score of 2.818. The mean effect size score is the parameter that represents effective contribution. This positive score indicates that the post-test score is higher than the pre-test score. Accordingly, it could be concluded that reality therapy is effective for enhancing learning motivation and discipline.

Abstract

Emotion regulation is an important aspect in teachers a teacher’s everyday life. However, facts show that some teachers fail to properly regulate their emotions. Accordingly, an intervention is needed to enhance teachers’ emotional regulation. “PROAKTIF Teachers” is a training module developed to increase teachers’ emotional regulation. The “PROAKTIF Teachers” training was structured based on a “PROAKTIF” Guidance and Counseling Model. This research aimed to find out the effect of “PROAKTIF Teachers” training on vocational School teachers’ emotional regulation. The research method was quasi experiment using the untreated control group design with dependent pretest and posttest samples. Twenty-six vocational school teachers participated in this study, they were assigned into experimental and control groups. The participants were recruited using purposive sampling technique.The research instruments were emotional regulation scale, “PROAKTIF Teachers” module, and manipulation check. Data analysis used mixed annova. The result of the research showed that “PROAKTIF Teachers” training did not have significant effect in increasing emotional regulation of teachers in Vocational schools. The result of the present study could be used as a reference to develop a training model to help vocational school teachers to improve their emotion regulation skills by considering several aspects found in the present study including duration, model, approach, theoretical basis, focus, and psychological values of the training.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of group counseling with self-management techniques to reduce nomophobia among adolescents. This study is a quantitative research with experimental research type and one group pretest-posttest design. The subjects in this study were 8 Vocational High School students in Yogyakarta City, Indonesia. Data collection in the study used the nomophobia scale instrument. The study used the Wilcoxon test to analyze research data. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that group counseling with self-management techniques is effective in reducing nomophobia among adolescents, especially students of Vocational High Schools in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. School counselors can use the results of the study as a reference to help students reduce nomophobia through group counseling with self-management techniques.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore the use of the photovoice methodology to understand students' positive emotion related to their daily activities. Photovoice is an innovative method of participatory action research that enables individuals and communities to use photography and writing to solve various problems. This study included a qualitative analysis of 42 photovoice papers prepared by 15 Guidance and Counseling students The images and thematic analysis reveal the following main themes: religion, learning activities and places and leisure. This study provides evidence that photovoice is a promising method for understanding positive psychological variables of undergraduate  students as a tool for personal empowerment and transformation.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the understanding of counselors in partner schools of the Sanata Dharma University Study and Counseling Program about (1) indirect guidance and counseling services; (2) consulting services; and (3) implementation of consulting services. This research method is qualitative research with case study design. Respondents of this study are couselors in 15 partner schools of the Sanata Dharma University Study and Counseling Study Program. This research data collection technique uses structured interviews. The data analysis technique used is qualitative descriptive. The results of the study showed (1) School counselors in  partner schools of the Guidance and Counseling Study Program at Sanata Dharma University understand the Guidance and Indirect Counseling services as (a) guidance and counseling services using media; Guidance and Counseling services that involve other people; and (c) Guidance and Counseling support services. The school counselors knowledge is not all true in accordance with the theories and concepts of Guidance and Counseling services; (2) School counselors in  partner schools of the Guidance and Counseling Study Program at Sanata Dharma University understand consulting services as services by counselor as consultants to students as consultants, services by counselor as consultants to others as consultants, and services by expert as consultants to school counselors as a consultant; and (3) School counselors in  partner schools of the Guidance and Counseling Study Program at Sanata Dharma University carry out consulting services from planning to evaluation in a systematic and not well conceptualized manner. The School counselors carry out consultation services if there are parents or teachers coming

Abstract

The present study aimed to find out the simultaneous relationship among smartphone addiction, academic burnout, and procrastination among guidance and counseling department students of Semarang State University. This correlational study involved 75 students who were recruited using proportionate stratified sampling with a 10% margin of error. The data were analyzed using multiple correlation and bivariate formulas. The study revealed that 1) there is no significant relationship between smartphone addiction and procrastination, as indicated by a p-value of 0.449. In addition, it was also found that 2) there is no significant relationship between smartphone addiction and academic burnout (p-value = 0.255). However, the study found 3) a significant relationship between academic burnout and procrastination (p-value = 0.046). The fourth finding was that the R-value between smartphone addiction, academic burnout, and procrastination was 0.219 and sig. value of 0.171,  indicating a positive, insignificant simultaneous relationship between smartphone addiction, academic burnout, and procrastination among Guidance and Counseling Students of Semarang State University. The result of the study could be used as the basis to determine guidance and counseling services at the university level in order to minimize the problems related to smartphone addiction, academic burnout, and procrastination.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the self-strength counseling model in developing student academic expectations. The study was conducted using a single-subject experimental design to measure the relationship between 2 variables, namely self-strength counseling and academic expectations. The type of design used is the A-B-A design, where there are three experimental phases, namely phase A is the baseline phase and phase B is the intervention phase. The data analysis used in this research is descriptive statistical techniques because the study has a single case (single subject). The number of subjects in this study was limited, namely only five students. The results showed that self-strength counseling was effective in increasing student academic expectations after the intervention process. The study results can be used to reference counselors in higher education to improve student academic expectations through the self-strength counseling model.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the anti-bullying awareness of high school students in Yogyakarta City. This research is a phenomenological type of qualitative research. The data in this study were collected through interview instrument guidelines and observation guidelines. The subjects in this study were 25 students from six different schools in Yogyakarta City. The study used data analysis by Miles and Huberman. The results of the study show that anti-bullying awareness among high school students in Yogyakarta City is good. This is evidenced by: 1) well-known definitions of bullying, forms of bullying, and the impact of bullying, both victims and perpetrators; 2) broad insight based on the experience of being a victim of bullying, seeing bullying behavior directly or indirectly, and initiatives to help victims of bullying; 3) no desire to bully friends; 4) the ability to make friends by keeping feelings for each other and still upholding the prevailing norms. The results of the study can be used as a reference for guidance and counseling teachers or counselors to design guidance and counseling services about bullying to prevent bullying in high school students in Yogyakarta City.

Abstract

The study aims to determine the effectiveness of Donald Super's career counseling in increasing student self-efficacy and career commitment. This experimental research involved 20 guidance and counseling department students in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia, recruited using purposive sampling technique. The subjects were divided into two groups. Self-efficacy and career commitment scales were deployed to collect the data. The collected data were analyzed using Wilcoxon test. The results of the study show that Donald Super's career counseling was  effective in increasing self-efficacy and career commitment of guidance and counseling students. The results of this study can be used as a reference by counselors in higher education to increase self-efficacy and career commitment of students using Donald Super's career counseling.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the role of emotional intelligence and social support with learning achievement in class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Bengkulu Selatan. This study is a non-experimental study with a correlational design to determine the effect of emotion regulation on students' learning achievement. This study proves two hypotheses, first, there is a significant emotional intelligence with an increase in student achievement. Second, there is a significant relationship between social support and an increase in student achievement. This study collected data from 89 students using a random technique from the population of SMA Negeri 1 Bengkulu Selatan. The data collection instruments used were emotional intelligence questionnaires, social support questionnaires and student achievement documents. The analysis used is more specific, namely simple linear regression analysis. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and academic achievement with an rxy value of 0.283 plus a p value of 0.013. Furthermore, second hypotheses, there is a significant relationship between social support and an increase in student achievement was rejected with a p value of 0.064 and clarified with an rxy value of 0.212, which means that there is no relationship between social support and increased learning achievement. The results of this study can be used as a reference to determine the right way to deal with students' academic and problems with guidance and counseling that is fun to maximize emotional intelligence, social support and student achievement.
