Abstract

This study aims to explore the ethnomathematical elements in Islamic inheritance law through a content analysis of the Kitab Faraidh (Book of Islamic Inheritance) by Shaykh Muhammad bin Salih Al-'Uthaymeen. This classical text presents a systematic exposition of faraidh law based on the Qur'an, Hadith, and scholarly consensus. Using qualitative content analysis, this research identifies and analyzes the mathematical concepts embedded in inheritance division systems as presented in the text. The findings reveal that faraidh constitutes a sophisticated mathematical system implementing fractions, least common multiples (LCM), ratios, and basic arithmetic operations through four main calculation patterns: fixed shares (ashabul furudh), proportional reduction ('aul), proportional addition (radd), and residual distribution ('asabah). The analysis demonstrates that the mathematical complexity in faraidh is equivalent to middle school mathematics curriculum content. This study recommends the integration of faraidh-based ethnomathematics into mathematics education to create contextual, culturally relevant learning. The results offer practical guidance for developing teaching materials and learning models that utilize Islamic intellectual heritage as a pedagogical resource. Keywords: Ethnomathematics, Islamic Inheritance, Contextual Mathematics Learning

Abstract

Abstract.  This study aimed to determine the effect of the Make A Match learning model on fourth-grade students’ critical thinking skills in Matematika at SDN Kaligawe. The Make A Match model is a cooperative learning strategy that engages students in finding matching pairs of question and answer cards, thereby promoting active participation and deeper understanding of the material. This research employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental design with pretest and posttest. Data were collected through a critical thinking skills test administered before and after the treatment. The hypothesis testing was conducted using SPSS with the criterion that if Sig. (2-tailed) < 0.05, the hypothesis is accepted. The results showed a significant difference between students’ performance before and after the implementation of the Make A Match model. The SPSS output indicated a significance value of 0.00, which is lower than 0.05, meaning the hypothesis was accepted. The average pretest score was 55, which increased to 80 in the posttest. In conclusion, the implementation of the Make A Match learning model in teaching the Hindu-Buddhist and Islamic kingdoms material in IPAS is more effective than the conventional lecture method in improving fourth-grade students’ critical thinking skills at SDN Kaligawe. Keywords: Make A Match, Critical Thinking

Abstract

Abstract. Numeracy literacy is an essential 21st-century competence that emphasizes the ability to understand, use, and interpret quantitative information in various real-life contexts. However, mathematics learning in elementary schools is still dominated by procedural approaches that are less connected to students’ cultural realities. Ethnomathematics offers a contextual approach by integrating cultural practices into mathematics learning. This study aims to analyze the role of buying and selling activities in traditional markets from an ethnomathematics perspective as a context for strengthening elementary school students’ numeracy literacy. The method used was a Systematic Literature Review following the PRISMA Statement guidelines. Data were collected from Google Scholar covering publications from 2018 to 2025. Of the 43 identified articles, 23 met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings indicate that ethnomathematics based on traditional market activities contributes to improving conceptual understanding and strengthening students’ numeracy literacy in mathematics learning. Keywords: Ethnomathematics, Traditional Market, Numeracy Literacy

Abstract

Abstract. This study examines the structure of the intended curriculum in data analysis and probability within Indonesia's secondary mathematics curriculum. Through content analysis, the study breaks down the curriculum structure into three tiers: large, medium, and small. The analysis of the large structure indicates that the curriculum aligns with the goals of mathematics education, focusing on reasoning and problem-solving to enhance student numeracy at each stage. In the medium structure, the curriculum consistently employs a spiral model that aids student advancement from Level B to Level C, following the GAISE II framework. However, the small structure analysis uncovers a disproportion in the PPDAC investigation cycle, where the data, analysis, and conclusion stages overshadow the problem and plan stages. The study concludes that there is a need to reinforce the independent investigation planning stage in each phase to ensure that the shift from empirical to theoretical data is perceived as a coherent unit of statistical reasoning. Further research is suggested to assess the implemented and attained curricula. Keywords: intended curriculum, PPDAC, GAISE II, concept progression, statistical investigation, statistical reasoning

Abstract

Abstract. This study aims to describe seventh-grade students' understanding of fractions at SMP. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach and a case study design, with three students as subjects classified into high, medium, and low categories. Data were collected through tests, interviews, and documentation. The study's results show that students' understanding of fractions varies. Students in the high category can explain and apply the concept of fractions effectively. Students in the medium category still have difficulty distinguishing between types of fractions, but can explain the meaning of a fraction and give everyday examples. Meanwhile, students in the low category show limited understanding of the concept, as they still have difficulty explaining fractions and are therefore unable to apply it effectively. Keywords: Fraction concepts, Conceptual understanding, Mathematics learning,  Junior high school students
