Abstract

Children with autism spectrum disorders need interventions to deal with communication, social interaction, and behavior problems. The Covid-19 pandemic has prevented children with autism spectrum disorders from performing face-to-face interventions outside the home. This study aims to describe the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on individuals with autism spectrum disorders and to describe the intervention efforts of individuals with spectrum disorders during the Covid-19 outbreak. This study uses a systematic literature review consisting of three main phases, planning the review, conducting the review, and reporting the review, by analyzing 17 articles. The results show that the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on children with autism is increased stress and anxiety. The cause of this anxiety stress is extreme routine changes that are difficult for children with autism spectrum disorders to experience. Some of the symptoms of behavioral changes as a result of this stress include anxiety, sleep disturbances, irritability, obsessions, impulsivity. Adolescents with autism spectrum disorders are also prone to depression. Therefore, intervention efforts that can be done are through telehealth (online health consultations and interventions), online learning, and family-based interventions with a variety of activities.

Abstract

The existence of COVID-19 in Indonesia was officially announced by the president in March 2020 before the virus emerged in Wuhan China. School closure was conducted and the policy of distant learning was officially released by the Ministry of Education. This research aimed to find the challenges that teachers in Indonesia encountered during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak and how teachers overcome the learning process challenges. The study was conducted towards primary school teachers in some provinces in Indonesia through an online survey with close-ended and open- ended questions. Our research findings showed teachers encounter challenges that include the disturbance in teaching and learning regarding accessibility, learning quality, school-home relationship, and technology awareness. Teachers also changed their ways of teaching by sending the learning materials via Google Classroom, WhatsApp (cross-platform messaging), and a few still conducted face-to- face meetings with strict policies.

Abstract

To deal with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indonesian government, including the Ministry of Social Affairs, has issued various social protection policies, including for persons with disabilities. In fact, people with disabilities still experience difficulties in accessing the program. This study aims to analyze these policies and the difficulties faced by persons with disabilities. This qualitative descriptive study found that people with disabilities had difficulty surviving during the pandemic. They lose their jobs because most of their work requires direct contact with other people. On the other hand, only a part of people with disabilities received social assistance because they were not recorded in the recipients of social assistance. The low ability to communicate risks to persons with disabilities is one of the reasons for the weak data collection of persons with disabilities. This study recommends more intense socialization and advocacy as well as equalizing perceptions about the concept of persons with disabilities and their needs.

Abstract

The cross-sectional survey investigated the prevalence of complications of SCI, levels of activity and participation and the associations among them. The ASIA impairment scale, Impact on Participation and Autonomy Questionnaire, Barthel’s index and Numeric Pain Rating Scale were used to assess participation, activity and pain respectively. Pain was the most prevalent complication among the 25 participants. 68% of them had high level of activity and 72% had moderate level of participation and autonomy. There was a significant association between level of activity and presence of pressure ulcer and bladder dysfunction but there was no significant association between pain and level of activity. There was significant association between level of participation and presence of pressure ulcer, bladder dysfunction and pain. There was no significant association between level of activity and participation. The level of activity and participation among individuals with SCI appeared to be influenced by presence of complications.

Abstract

The absence of implementation instructions by formulating strategies as a model for company management as well as the company's initial provision in providing equal opportunities and preparing access to workers with disabilities. To formulate a management model as a recommendation for private companies in the policies of the district/city/provincial Manpower and Transmigration Office and agencies in the city/district government or State-Owned Enterprises companies, and as a recommendation for the preparation of academic texts of regional regulations in Indonesia. The results that the real problem is the environment or society's perspective, and companies can consider the advantages of workers with disabilities, in the form of character and abilities as well as a good image for companies. Adjustment the company's commitment to providing additional funds to prepare human resources and additional facilities to meet the needs in the work environment, increasing in the form of training on the awareness of other workers as well as awareness that persons with disabilities have rights as workers, and as business opportunities and benefits, or through company activity in the form of Corporate Social Responsibility. More recently, the synergy between companies, the government and the community of people with disabilities, in the form of imposition of rewards based on the number of permanent workers and temporary workers of people with disabilities to all companies.

Abstract

There are plenty of information or news regarding natural disasters being inaccessible for Deaf people, and this stems from lack of Sign Language Interpreters. Urgency Sign Language Interpreters have an important role in bridging communication between society and the entire Deaf population, Sign Language Interpreters can also help people with Deafness in accessing information comprehensively on the aforementioned subject (natural disasters). Mostly, Deaf people communicate through sign language in their everyday lives, although Deaf people are still experiencing exclusion in discerning the newest and developing information on the current state of world affairs. This study aimed to elaborate situations faced by Deaf people in accessing information on natural disasters around them, their needs on accessing said information, and also urgency as well as obstacles faced in providing Sign Language Interpreters. This research will use qualitative approach by means of document/literature study to gather data from various international as well as national articles in general.

Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate disability profile and accessibility limitations among Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) in Nigeria. Methods: 61 PLWDs (44 men, 17 women) consented for this study. World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0, Facilitators and Barriers Survey for People with Mobility Limitations version 2, Barthel Index, and Medical Expenditure Panel Survey Questionnaires were used to obtain data on physical disability profile, level of access barriers, activities of daily living and quality of access to health care respectively. A proforma was used to collect information on socio-demographic characteristics. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Alpha level set at p< 0.05. Results: Prevalence of mobility, visual and hearing impairments were 60.7%, 21.3% and 6.6% respectively, There was a 11.5% rate of functional limitation while mild difficulty with cognition and life activities were reported among 96.7% and 65.6% of the respondents. 24.6% of the respondents had partial mobility dependence. There was low quality of access to health care (67.2%), high access barrier to home environment (73.8%) and transportation (93.4%). Conclusion: The PLWDs have high mobility impairment and face barriers in accessing healthcare, transportation and environment.

Abstract

The use of hands-on activity-based mathematics learning media for mentally retarded children and cerebral palsy is largely unexplored. Meanwhile, observations of children with special needs (mental retardation and cerebral palsy) at school have not shown good basic math skills, such as counting, recognizing numbers, recognizing letters, performing math operations (for example, addition and subtraction). This study aims to develop a hands-on activity-based learning media model for mentally retarded children and cerebral palsy to improve understanding of mathematics in reading, writing, and arithmetic subjects. The method used is Research and Development, where the subject is the Special School in Bandung, Indonesia. The instruments used in this study were documentation, classroom observation, interviews, and tests of mathematical comprehension abilities. The results showed that a hands-on activity-based learning model could be used to improve basic math skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic for children with mental retardation and cerebral palsy.

Abstract

This is a case study research in this paper reports on findings from the case study (syntactic and morphological) in an individual diagnosed with a genetic disorder, Down Syndrome (DS), that affect language development without getting the help of any official therapists. We perform pragmatic and phonological analyses alongside morphology and syntactic analyses on data collected from studying documents, observation, and interview results. The qualitative descriptive linguistic method is used in this study to provide a detailed description. The result shows some deficits performed by the DS caused by articulatory limitation, difficulty to follow some words in long statements, and difficulty to respond to the topic that he has not known before.
