Abstract

This study explores the optimization of housing renovation assistance programs as a means of empowering impoverished communities in Pacitan Regency, analyzed through the lens of Islamic community development. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving program beneficiaries, local authorities, and implementing stakeholders.  The program embodies core Islamic values, including ukhuwah (social solidarity), ta’awun (mutual assistance), and principles of social justice, aligning with the broader objectives of maqashid sharia, particularly the protection of life (hifz al-nafs), property (hifz al-mal), and family welfare (hifz al-nasl). Despite these positive outcomes, challenges persist, including limited financial resources, inequitable beneficiary selection, and insufficient community engagement during program planning and decision-making processes. Participatory approach that involves collaboration between government entities, religious institutions, and civil society to ensure sustainable, value-driven community empowerment

Abstract

This study explores the challenges posed by modernization to Muslim society by employing a qualitative library research approach. Modernization, driven by the rapid development of science, technology, and globalization, has significantly transformed social, cultural, and religious life. The findings indicate that modernization has led to the erosion of religious identity among youth, weakened the practice of Islamic creed, widened the gap between Islamic traditions and modern societal demands, and created internal conflicts between conservative and progressive groups within the Muslim world. However, the literature also highlights several strategic responses, such as strengthening contextual Islamic education, promoting adaptive religious interpretation, and utilizing digital platforms for religious outreach. The study concludes that maintaining a balanced and constructive engagement with modernization is essential for ensuring that Islamic values remain relevant and influential in shaping ethical and harmonious modern societies.

Abstract

Based on preliminary research findings, many students feel easily defeated by their circumstances and tend to complain. Additionally, many students experience a degradation in morality when communicating with lecturers. The method used in this study is qualitative with a phenomenological approach, interviewing 20 students from the BKI program. The results show that only 5 out of 20 students are resilient, while the other 15 tend to give up easily and experience stress, with 2 of them even contemplating suicide. Based on the interviews, it was found that each student is capable of both good and bad behaviors, such as stealing, lying, showing a lack of empathy, and being impolite toward elders. Their moral character varies, influenced by personal experiences, trauma, and their environmental conditions.

Abstract

This study evaluates the drug prevention strategies implemented by the Head of Sambinae Subdistrict and identifies key barriers affecting their effectiveness. Using qualitative descriptive method, data was collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings reveal that the strategies are effective due to strong collaboration between the subdistrict office, Bhabinkamtibmas, Babinsa, community leaders, religious figures, and the National Narcotics Agency (BNN). The integration of Soft Power, Hard Power, and Smart Power approaches enhances the impact of prevention efforts. Optimal resource allocation including facilities, personnel, and funding and effective coordination and further support implementation. However, challenges such as limited human resources, geographical constraints, and low community participation persist. Legal reinforcement through Law No. 35 of 2009 and informal educational programs, such as the Anti-Drug Peer Youth initiative, are crucial in raising awareness. Multisectoral collaboration remains a key factor in the sustainable prevention of drug circulation in the Sambinae Subdistrict.

Abstract

The gender representations conveyed through the language of religious speakers play a significant role in shaping public perceptions of the roles of men and women. This study examines sermons delivered by two popular figures, Ustadz Abdul Somad and Ustadzah Oki Setiana Dewi, to explore how gender constructions are represented through lexical choices, speech styles, and discourse structures. Using a critical language study approach, the findings reveal that although both speakers convey religious messages with different styles, Ustadz Abdul Somad tends to be normative and direct, while Ustadzah Oki adopts a more narrative and emotional approach, both still reproduce traditional gender patterns. Women are often associated with obedience, domesticity, and gentleness, whereas men are portrayed as leaders, protectors, and holders of authority. These findings demonstrate that the language used in religious sermons not only communicates moral and spiritual messages but also contributes to reinforcing social constructions of gender inequality.

Abstract

Failure to thrive is experienced by a child whose height does not match his age, often called stunting. Stunting is a health problem that will impact the future of a nation because one of the benchmarks of a country that is said to be developed is that the country has a healthy and bright generation. Currently, Indonesia is faced with the problem of the high prevalence of stunting toddlers from 2021 by 24.4% to 2022 to 21.6%, which has only decreased by 2.8%. The decrease has not reached the target of 14% in 2024. This study aims to describe and analyze the efforts of the Lingga Village government to accelerate stunting reduction using qualitative research methods. The research showed that the Lingga Village government's efforts to reduce stunting were through socialization, growth monitoring, development monitoring, sanitation, and clean water.

Abstract

Women’s empowerment in the Dotuman Angon livestock group through the theoretical framework of Naila Kabeer. The study is grounded in the understanding that empowerment is not solely an economic process but a transformation of power relations shaped by social and cultural structures. Using a descriptive qualitative approach based on a literature review and contextual analysis, this study explores how access to resources, decision-making capacity, and meaningful achievements are experienced by women within the livestock group. The findings indicate that while development programs may increase productivity and household assets, these outcomes do not necessarily translate into genuine empowerment for women when agency and control over decisions remain limited. The study highlights the importance of applying a multidimensional and gender sensitive approach in community empowerment programs to ensure that women are not merely beneficiaries of development initiatives, but active agents in shaping their own lives.

Abstract

Social inequality in multicultural and hierarchical workplaces challenges companies in implementing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs. This study uses a critical ethnographic approach as a transformative organizational communication strategy to uncover and address hidden social issues. Unlike top-down symbolic methods, critical ethnography amplifies marginalized voices such as women, people with disabilities, and ethnic minorities. Through qualitative descriptive analysis of literature and Unilever Indonesia’s case, the study finds that integrating ethnographic insights into DEI and CSR communication exposes structural bias, fosters inclusive narratives, and supports socially just policies. Companies applying this approach become more responsive to social crises and build stronger, sustainable community relations. Furthermore, two-way communication based on real experiences strengthens ESG value internalization, positioning critical ethnography not just as observation but as a strategic bridge between corporations and complex social realities.
