Abstract

This study examines the evolution of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and its influence on global environmental governance, focusing on the case of the Baka Indigenous people in Cameroon. The study aims to analyze how WWF’s transformation from a wildlife conservation organization into a transnational actor has shaped power relations among international institutions, states, corporations, and Indigenous communities. This research applies Decolonial Theory, the concept of green grabbing, and the perspectives of Boaventura de Sousa Santos and Elinor Ostrom to critically examine conservation practices. The findings show that WWF has played a significant role in environmental advocacy, conservation funding, knowledge production, and protected area governance. However, the Baka case reveals that global conservation can reproduce coloniality of power when implemented without meaningful Indigenous participation. Restricted forest access, the use of eco-guards, and weak accountability for alleged human rights abuses reflect a tension between ecological protection and collective community rights. This study concludes that just conservation must be participatory, dialogical, rights-based, and grounded in the recognition of local knowledge as a core foundation of global environmental governance.

Abstract

This study analyzes the narrative construction of Bitcoin on Angga Andinata's YouTube channel through two sample videos representing opposing market phases: Halving 2024: Ini Jalan Ninjaku (bull market phase) and Bocoran Bottom Bitcoin 2026 (bear market phase). Integrating Yuval Noah Harari's theory of intersubjective fiction, John Searle's institutional facts, Robert Shiller's narrative economics, and Robert Stanton's structuralism, this qualitative study aims to reveal how Bitcoin is constructed as a collective belief system in Indonesia. Data were collected through the documentation of verbal transcripts and screenshots of visual elements. The findings indicate that Bitcoin is constructed as a protagonist character ("Gold 2.0") legitimized by global and local institutional validators, whereas altcoins are personified as antagonists. The narrative setting is constructed through temporal (halving), scientific (Stock-to-Flow and Bitcoin Clock), macroeconomic, and emotional dimensions. The narrative plot is arranged persuasively and adaptively, moving from debunking profit myths and accumulating empirical evidence to reaching a climax in a generational outlier event and concluding with a practical resolution. In conclusion, the high rate of Bitcoin adoption in Indonesia is driven not merely by technical-economic factors, but by the effectiveness of digital communication in maintaining a consistent intersubjective fiction across various market conditions. This study contributes to the literature on digital media discourse and financial narrative framing.

Abstract

Quality public services are one of the indicators of successful government administration. Public service innovation represents a form of governance reform aimed at improving the effectiveness of service delivery. This study aims to analyze the implementation of public service innovation through the Multipurpose Safe and Comfortable Application (AMAN) managed by the Department of Communication, Informatics, Statistics, and Encryption of Pekanbaru City. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research informants consist of application managers and service users. Data analysis was conducted interactively through the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the implementation of the AMAN application innovation has not been fully optimal. Based on Rogers’ five diffusion of innovation indicators, the AMAN application demonstrates strengths in relative advantage through the integration of public services into a single digital platform and compatibility with the needs of Pekanbaru City residents. However, challenges remain in complexity due to limited integration among local government agencies, trialability due to insufficient public trials and socialization, and observability because some services remain inaccessible to users. Strengthening coordination, institutional capacity, and stakeholder collaboration is required to support the sustainability of this innovation.

Abstract

Instagram has become an important space for musicians to construct public identity through a complementary blend of visual and verbal messages. However, studies integrating the analysis of visual and verbal signs within the context of musicians' personal branding in Indonesia remain limited. This study aims to analyze the representation of Baskara Putra's self-image as a musician on the Instagram account @wordfang using Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic approach. The research employs a qualitative method with an interpretive case study approach. The research data were sourced from seven purposively selected posts depicting the subject's musical activities. Data analysis focused on the relationship between signifier and signified formed through the integration of visual elements (photos) and verbal elements (captions). The findings reveal four main dimensions of self-image representation: professionalism and commitment to music-making, recognition of musical works, immersion in musical activity, and emotional connection with the audience. These four dimensions complement one another and construct a self-image that is not framed as instant success, but as an ongoing creative process. These findings affirm that the integration of visual and verbal signs on social media operates in a unified manner in shaping a musician's identity, while also enriching the application of Saussure's classical semiotics within the context of contemporary digital communication, and contributing empirically to studies of public figures' self-representation on social media platforms.

Abstract

This study examines co-firing innovation and community empowerment through a co-creation analysis within the biomass supply chain at the PT PLN Nusantara Power Generation Unit in Pacitan. Theoretically, this study draws on the service-dominant logic and co-creation perspectives, which emphasize the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in creating shared value. A qualitative method with a case study approach was employed. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews, each lasting two hours, with three PLN representatives, two vendors, and three biomass-supplying MSME actors. The results indicate that co-creation practices manifest across three dimensions: co-design (MSME involvement in supply planning), co-production (MSME participation in biomass processing), and co-delivery (distribution based on local partnerships). These practices generate economic benefits through job creation, environmental benefits by reducing carbon emissions from 4 million tons to 330,000 tons per year (equivalent to a 7% post-co-firing reduction), and social harmony rooted in trust and social legitimacy. Consequently, the biomass supply chain in Pacitan serves not only as a technical instrument for energy supply but also as an arena for community empowerment and sustainable social relationship development.

Abstract

The hospitality industry in Surakarta has experienced significant pressure due to the government’s budget-efficiency policy and the decline in Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE) activities. This situation demands a strategic role from public relations practitioners in managing crisis communication to maintain organizational reputation. This study aims to analyze the crisis communication strategies implemented by hotel public relations officers in Surakarta by comparing the Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT) from a Western perspective with its adaptation to the local Indonesian cultural context. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a comparative case study on Solo Paragon Hotel and Harris Hotel Solo, using in-depth interviews, observation, and analysis of documents and digital media. The findings reveal that both hotels categorized the crisis as a victim and accidental crisis, with the dominant use of the diminish strategy combined with local cultural values such as gotong royong (cooperation), musyawarah (deliberation), rukun (social harmony), tepa selira (empathy), and nguwongke wong (humanizing others). This cultural adaptation resulted in a hybrid crisis communication model that integrates SCCT's theoretical framework with relational communication practices rooted in Javanese culture. The study emphasizes that the effectiveness of crisis communication in Indonesia is highly influenced by cultural sensitivity and offers a theoretical contribution through the Hybrid-Relational Crisis Communication Model as well as a practical contribution for hospitality public relations practitioners in designing contextual, empathetic, and sustainable communication strategies.

Abstract

Present-day society experiences news infiltrated with diminished truth and distorted facts due to technology, resulting to consumption of hoax and fake news. As regular users of digital platforms, students are frequently exposed to fake news stories, yet their behaviors and actions for detecting, assessing, and distributing such content on social media remain unexplored. No specific research on news verification mainly targets international students in Ankara yet they depend on social media for news consumption. In this study, verification behaviors of African students in Ankara, Türkiye were examined, regarding how they classify facts and fictions in digital news about their countries. The study aims to raise awareness of news verification methods among students, expand knowledge on their news content verification, and provide insights into challenges faced in verifying digital news. With the application of mixed research methods, responses from 117 students were studied through questionnaires regarding their experiences, opinions, and knowledge on fake news verification. This research contributes original insights into the underexplored area of news verification behaviors among students, and results revealed that students still utilize social media for news consumption and using technology for verification. X emerged the most used platform for news consumption, accessibility, verification, and re-distribution with majority employing it to know news about their home countries. The study addresses a critical gap by connecting the post-truth media environment with user-driven verification practices, revealing valuable implications for media literacy strategies and digital news verification initiatives targeting student populations.

Abstract

Regional development disparities underscore the importance of policy implementation effectiveness, particularly following institutional reorganizations in planning agencies. Conducted from December 2024 to January 2025, this descriptive qualitative study aims to analyze the implementation of the Accelerated Development Program for Underdeveloped Regions (PPDT) in East Manggarai Regency using Van Meter and Van Horn's (1975) framework. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with BAPELITBANGDA officials, planning staff, village heads, and community representatives, supplemented by observation and document analysis. The findings reveal that PPDT implementation remains suboptimal due to an implementation gap between high-quality planning coordination at BAPELITBANGDA and low operational execution capacity at the technical field level. Road infrastructure, along with health and education indicators, has yet to meet macro targets. Supporting factors include harmonious inter-organizational coordination and public participation, whereas structural barriers are dominated by fiscal resource constraints, cutbacks in technical field personnel, and geographical challenges. This study recommends strengthening technical human resource capacity, optimizing budget execution, and repositioning BAPELITBANGDA as an evidence-based policy innovation center.Ketimpangan pembangunan daerah tertinggal menegaskan pentingnya efektivitas implementasi kebijakan, khususnya pasca-reorganisasi kelembagaan perencanaan daerah.
